I just loved how ruthless & straight talking Slot was for his reason on why he sub Quansah for Konate at halftime and Slotball was something else doing that second half performance. Think we all needed a change in management near end of Klopp there was more control and tempo with Slot way that probably suits the players, we've got than full heavy metal footy under Klopp. Enjoy rest of your weekend mate
Under Jürgen, a lot of games were very similar to the first half to be fair. Quite a few times it would last the whole game. But he mostly found a way to win. I was very impressed with how Slot changed his team at half time. Konate coming on was a fantastic change that turned the game on its head. Jürgen's loyalty could be both a blessing & a curse with his players at times. Slot identified the issue, & solved it emphatically. Quansah is a talented player, but that change was quite ruthless. Slot also seems more willing to criticise his players to the media, compared to Klopp who would always blame himself. As long as he balances it which he did today, I have no problem with that.
Half time I was worried but tried to put it into perspective. First game, 12:30 KO away at a promoted team who were bang up for it with a good atmosphere. Second half was really good but I do think Ipswich tired. Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Trent and Salah in particular stepped up I thought. Also impressed with Slot making the change at half time and the way he spoke after the game .. refreshing to hear him be honest about what he wasn’t happy with and why he made the change. I thought he came across really well in the interviews. Quite telling that he made the point he was happy the next game was in 8 days so he could get them back on the training pitch, obviously lots he wants / needs to work on until we are comfortable playing his style. Like you said though Dunk was buzzing with the win on opening day, with everything surrounding transfers / the new manager was worried a bad result would have everyone in meltdown 😅 so glad to have the footy back though and to concentrate on the way the team played rather than transfers etc 😂 enjoy chilling tonight mate!
I thought the second half was evident of what Slot is attempting to implement. Some of the one two’s and the direct passing was a joy to watch. People can say we’re wasteful in times but it’s the opening game of the season. My only concern is playing out of the back, against better opposition we will be punished. One thing for certain is that it’s going to be another rollercoaster of a season so buckle up guys
It's weird not seeing Joe Gomez make the bench. He's gone from one of Klopp's faves to surplus to requirements in just a few months. That would usually be Tsimikas not making the bench
I wouldn't say Joe had become surplus to requirements, at all. I think the decision by him to consider his options is quite understandable at this stage in his career- he isn't a starter in this squad and he probably wants, and deserves, to be one- if that is the case then, sadly, that means he'll need to move on. I feel like "surplus to requirements" implies that the club don't want/need Gomez, which I don't believe to be the case. The reality is, he's our 4th choice CB, so if he wants to be a starter then I think it's only right for the club to allow him to consider his future at the club given he has been a loyal servant for many years.
Thanks Dunc for making the time to keep the show on the road when you gave your VIP visitor- it's appreciated. I think the most positive aspect of the game was that the overall performance level of all players was good. The first half was what we expect from 2 teams playing their first meaningful league game. The subbing of JQ was AS indicating to the team that he will make changes as and when needed. Clearly other teams encountered the same difficulties judging by reports from premiership games. The second half showed us that lfc still has the 'Klopp' fighting spirit but now has some of Slot's calmness and patience. Until we meet a few of the 'big boys' we will not really really know if the team has progressed. Fingers crossed !
Very happy with that showing. The goals were brilliant; we didn't concede any major chances; Gravenberch excelled as a 6; and it was great seeing Slot subbing off our stars, which will hopefully fend off another injury crisis.
The half-time change, Konate for Quansah, was a statement from the manager in his first game. And it made a significant difference. Second half, was pretty damn good. An indication that this "Head Coach" needs backing in the transfer market...he knows what he is doing, can the same be said of Hughes? (And the others).
A difficult first half. The Ipswich fans were mad up for it. A change to Konate in the second half made quite the difference. Slot did not hold back on his analysis. I think he might do alright. He is the calm after The Jurgen storm.
First half was the pondering slow ambling team that we saw last 2 months of last season. Second half big improvement. Slight worry it was mostly that Ipswich gave their all in the first half and couldn’t keep it up.
@@RedRawLfc Definitely mate could have scored more than 2 goals today doing that second half. There was definitely more control and patience in our play than usual heavy metal footy under Klopp that probably suits our current players now. I'm just excited for next weekend game under Slotball
Same feeling at half time, I couldn't believe what I'd just watched. Much better in the second and showed glimses of what this team could be capable of. Largely I think the ref did a good job, aside from the lad who should've had a second yellow for a blatant handball. VAR checks and offsides seemed to be dealt with faster, which is what we all want. There's a reason the club tried to sign Zubimendi and we all saw that today. We really need somebody decent in that position bringing in. Maybe LB too, Robbo's losing his pace. Overall been a blinding result and I got my first goalscorer and a couple of others too. Mint.
At ht 0-0 I got a bit nervous that we wouldn’t find a goal but second half we looked way stronger we played really well good to see mo score on the opening day again YNWA❤❤
Match Summary: Thought Ipswich were very good first half, closed us down well, but consequently gassed themselves out. Apart from losing duels (which Slot highlighted) thought we were too slow with the passing and coupled with the Ipswich press, made us look average first half. Second half we moved the ball much quicker and found space as they had clearly sucked the life out of themselves. This may well be a theme this season as we keep the ball better and teams try harder to close us down, culminating in some thrashings in the second half. Seems like physically we looked way fitter than Ipswich in the second half, which hopefully bodes well. No injuries either so keeping the ball instead of going hell for leather for 90 mins may help, especially as our owners are tight gits who are intent on selling players or letting their contracts run out and then fail to replace them….. Player Ratings: Alisson 8 Robertson 4 / Kostas 6 Quansah 5 / Konate 6 Virgil 6 Trent 7 / Bradley 6 Gravenberch 7 Macca 6 Dom 6 Diaz 6 Salah 9 Jota 8 / Gakpo 6
I was very interested to see how the dutch players responded under Slot. Especially with Gravenberch being an ex-Ajax player (and Slot being an ex Feyenoord trainer). It seems as though he (ryan G.) responded best to though. Van Dijk also had a better performance second half. Jota always shines even when he doesn't put one in, you know he'll get one if the chances keep coming. Diaz still looks as though he's trying too hard and could do with slowing it down a pinch, he winds himself up to trick defenders and ends up beating himself, in my humble opinion. All in all and going forward I don't think they can't let better teams have half of the sniffs of goal as Ipswich did in that first half today. I'm hopeful he'll tighten it up though. Let's see how Quansah responds to his sub today. Also very impressed with Slot's Old School mentality regarding performance and spotting players form dipping. If he spots Salah having a bad day I'm sure he won't leave it till the 80th minute before replacing him.
Rusty the first half but much better in the second. We need to give Arne a decent run of games and time to get everyone on the same song-sheet. Overall a decent win at what could have been a tricky opening fixture. We won a 12.30 kick off, I'll take that.
A solid start, newly promoted Ipswich at home wanted to put on a good display for their crowd, so I'm happy, Slot is a different animal to Klopp, hoping he develops a personality.
Thought the first half was much like last seasons games plenty of chances and not finishing them off. Few changes and they stepped up after half time, hard first game but a good win in the end great 3 points. Jota, Salah looked good YNWA
Yep, that sounds about right......... First half i was a bit worried, but what i really did like was Slot saw the problem and tweaked it at half time!! we looked a diffrent team in the second half with the passing triangles back. As for players imho mainly based on the second half tbh, Alisson (7), Alexander-Arnold (7), Quansah (5), Van Dijk (6), Robertson (5), Gravenberch (8), Szoboszlai (6), Mac Allister (7), Diaz (7), Jota (8), Salah (8), subs Konate (7), Bradley (8), Gakpo (7) ........ Slot (8)
I hate playing newly promoted teams away in the first game of the season always a banana skin. Very poor first half great second half. What I was really pleased with was the clean sheet. Apart from that one time Ipswich broke they only had a couple of half chances. A lot of work still to be done but a very solid performance and result
Work in progress, definitely was thinking the same at half time… it’s gonna be a long season but that said I expected that kinda 1st half from Ipswich they’re a decent team. Glad we showed some extra gears in the 2nd half. Will be an interesting season depending on new signings
a good result considering the circumstances, newly promoted team/fans geared up for it/strong challenges going in. They really tried to upset LFC, showed their class in the second half but also showed how vulnerable we are without a number 6 destroyer when they broke. Ref was good
First games against newly promoted sides are always tricky as they probably still play like a championship team. I think the reason they got so many yellow cards early on was the ref letting them know that this is the Prem, with higher standards!
Have to say this. Am very astute used to be very good doing analytical stuff for Match coverage and performance. So your not on line. Obvious reasons 😆. Neither is anyone else. Obvious missing your content. King of The Kop x
2nd half awesome. Salah n diaz were a huge threat. Glad the quansah sub was tactical as it did look at first it wasn't. Come on Hughes ET Al back the coach
Hi Dunc, as I said during the stream, an akward first half, but then a much improved second half. I think everyone did very well and it could've been more. I liked that Arne didn't overcelebrate anything, this team as it is right now are still a top team and are still expected to beat lesser sides. All in all a good day, but I still believe 1 or 2 signings will make the difference...as we knew from the end of last season 😂
Read a couple posts on twitter which I don't believe due to no source that the valencia keeper joining barca. If it keeps them from affording Luis diaz then so be it. But i think we do need another cb with experience. Though I guess it's gonna take a short spell fir some to get used to how slot wants things with coming very late into pre season. Hopefully carvalho has a nightmare at anfield
We were really flat 1st half. Didn't create much and too much side movement of the ball rather than going forward. 2nd half we controlled the ball better, intricate through balls and the goals came. Still much to improve on.
First half we were finding our way but credit to Ipswich, 2nd half I thought we were superb and some of our play was breathtaking. Allison 7.5 Trent. 8.5 Quansah 5.5 Van Dijk 7 Gravenberch 7.5 Mcallister 6.5 Sobozalai 7 Diaz 7.5 Jota 7.5 Salah 7.5 Konate 7.5 Bradley 7 Tsimikas 7 Arne Slot 8
2nd half, slotball at its best. But my oh my, how bad were we in the first half. First manager to win his opening game in years. Salah 9, Trent 8, Gravyboat 8, Jota 8 (because he scored) everyone else 7 (just because we won). Oh yes, Arne Slot’s half time team talk 10.
He got it wrong first 1/2 ….. but he changed it during 1/2 time …. And that’s something we have not done in the past …. So he is a smart manger…. But we still have a few holes to fill with regards to new signings.
We all felt that 1s half, playing deep, not on the front foot. Part of me felt was that a ploy, to take energy out of Ipswich for 2nd half? @nd Half was a different game altogether, you can see Slot's style/Impact in one half compared to TenHaag..
GREAT SBSTITUTIONS and i hope Bajcetic will stay with the team its something about Slots style that makes me believe that he will fit well with the team at the 6
So Joe Gomes omitted from travelling squad. 1st point. 1st half, Ipswich closed us down. We did open them up. The goal was class. 2nd pure heaven and other misses, due to first game of season. Was tense before the goal. However 2nd half only one team in it.
I think people need to fully appreciate that 7 of that starting XI had 1 pre-season game! Imagine what he can do in a few months. The highest praise I can give is, I don't think we win that game under klopp. There, I said it. Cheers, YNWA
I think the first half we tried slotball, whatever that is, passing out from the back. Second half we reverted to type, Klopp quick attacking football. This is what I'm trying to figure out, was it Klopp or Slot that won us the game today? Anyway, we won.
I admit that the first half wasn't great. However, raucus home crowd, back in the Prem trying to get off to a fast home start, and the man to man marking put us off a bit. Arne made a few tweaks at halftime and the second half allowed for the quality to shine through. Diaz summed up what I watched last season and in Copa America. Speed, endurance, effort combined with poor passing and poor finishing. I love the effort, but the lad is just not polished or composed enough. Hope that changes soon. Surprised not to see Harvey get some game time after a successful preseason. No Gomez even on the bench...?
Quansa 6 because he struggled against Delap and got out muscled. 7 for everyone else 8 for Gravenbach and Salah. I’ve said this before but if we are looking for a winger buy Kudus at West Ham
First half was us making it hard for ourselves but it's expected as new manager new style but second half we looked good n I'm looking forward to seeing us play more of that style, very impressed with Dominic n Ryan, today was a example of why should have sold Diaz, he's to wasteful
Enjoyed the game however not subbing out our Wingers and holding onto subs into the 70+ mins on a 1st game just didnt sit right with me. No Nunez either
Thought it would be a hard game any team that comes up they are raring to go and i thought gravenberch played well i think the first half Ipswich deserved a lot of credit closed down very good but i did think LFC played very slow second half LFC started to pass a bit faster and Ipswich did tire a lot just asking one thing if things don't go well there will be people to blame before Arne we have to be honest if get top 4 for me a good season
I've seen there's a lot of people on Johnny Boys' wife's instgram calling fsg out on lack of in comings. I don't blame them, to be honest. We can't afford not to strengthen, especially when gomez could be leaving too. It would be stupidity, not too ! Hopefully, fsg pull their fingers out !
I thought yes a game of two half’s, the substitution of Quansah was key, old debate I know but Trent os not always the safest defender and Quansah did look like he had a mistake in him, manager signalling he will make tough decisions.
I thought Ipswich’s effort first half nullified us. We were shit first half. Slot gave them a bollocking half time, Quansars face said it all. I’m frustrated with the Laurel and hardy finishing second half, should’ve won by five really. Onwards and sideways!
cos u asked Dunc Ali 6.5 Robo 6.0 Tsim 6.5 VvD 6.2 Quan 6.5 Konate 6.5 Trent 6.0 Brad 6.5 McA 6.5 Grav 7.0 Diaz 7.5 Sobo 6.5 Salah 7.5 Jota 7.5 Gak 6.5 Nothing special from anyone really. Robo and Trent were disappointing but maybe expected given the lack of preseason under a new manager. I guess the biggest plus for me was the overall Slot tactic. Under Klopp, if we were 0-0 at half time, the panic button was well and truly pressed, but this felt more measured.. the win was coming, be patient. I guess we'll see as the games pile on.
Abysmal 1st half really gd 2nd half, gravenbach did well but not a #6 salah and jota will do well in this new system Diaz very wasteful jota and salah and gravenberch 7/10 Diaz 3/10 lol
Liverpool were awful in the first half.Credit to Ipswich they played well in the first half.Second half was more like Liverpool, tempo, moving the ball the fast to the forward players and it oayed dividends.
Disgraceful 1st half. Much better 2nd but we still need signings. All these numpties now saying Gravenberch is the answer at No.6. No he's not. And the talk is Gomez could be going. WTF!!! We should just change our name to Sell FC.

So happy about that Gravenberch performance
Im very optimistic, as he seems very critical when necessary and very thorough in training and very tactically astute.

We were great second half but we could do with atleast 2 signings as we have alot of games to play.
Cant see elliot or endo getting near the starting 11 with this style of play, possibly nunez too
I think people need to fully appreciate that 7 of that starting XI had 1 pre-season game!
Don't know if any fellow reds agree but I think Liverpool look abit more patient under Slot, we wasn't snatching at shots etc
Thought Dominik Szoboszlai, was our best player along with Mo. We still need a centre half and a six and it shows, until it happens we’re also rans.
Dunc check the betting odds on branthwaite transfer Liverpool have jumped up to favorites today. Very curious
First half was us making it hard for ourselves but it's expected as new manager new style but second half we looked good n I'm looking forward to seeing us play more of that style, very impressed with Dominic n Ryan, today was a example of why should have sold Diaz, he's to wasteful
Thanks for commenting
Diaz can be wasteful at times but he's a dangerous boy. Fullback was tortured with him
Pharmacy! Not more lub Dunk! 😂😂😂😂😂
Enjoyed the game however not subbing out our Wingers and holding onto subs into the 70+ mins on a 1st game just didnt sit right with me. No Nunez either
12:30 kick off
Thought it would be a hard game any team that comes up they are raring to go and i thought gravenberch played well i think the first half Ipswich deserved a lot of credit closed down very good but i did think LFC played very slow second half LFC started to pass a bit faster and Ipswich did tire a lot just asking one thing if things don't go well there will be people to blame before Arne we have to be honest if get top 4 for me a good season
SLOTBALL Dunc ❤
First half was average but second half was very impressive. 3 pts and move on. At least we're not the blue noses. Ynwa.
Ryan played really well at 6, and now Hughes is a genius for not buying a no6 😂 geez it’s started already on some FSG loving fan channels 🤦♂️
Ipswich were better in the first half i thought we were brilliant 2nd half. Another record for Salah.
cos u asked Dunc
Ali 6.5
Robo 6.0 Tsim 6.5
VvD 6.2
Quan 6.5 Konate 6.5
Trent 6.0 Brad 6.5
McA 6.5
Grav 7.0
Diaz 7.5
Sobo 6.5
Salah 7.5
Jota 7.5 Gak 6.5
Nothing special from anyone really.
Thanks man
👍
I do think Diaz could have done a lot better with his finishing as well
First half crap second half much better but still needs improving come on the boys ❤
