Sh shimo looks like an upscaled version of the 10 dollar playmates one. Hyia absolutely blows sh out the water. From price, film accuracy, poseability, everything. I mean it’s not awful but I’m glad I got my preorder in for the Hyia one

Ikr, it really does look like a higher budget playmates. normally sh has better articulation than hiya but it seems that aside from the neck this shimo seems to be less articulated than hiya. Hiya has better arms, legs, hands, and the promo pics of this seem to be missing an ab crunch

@@djangofett4879 Not always. Hiya's KOTM Ghidorah has better articulation than SHMA's version. Their KOTM Rodan is a bit more poseable too on account of bendy wire. So far both versions of Shimo looks to be similar in terms of poseability. SHMA's figures have only had consistently better poseability in regards to the big G man and Kong, but Hiya has been on par if not better in terms of their other Toho/MV kaiju figures.

The paint finish (or lack thereof) is what's undermining the SHMA one. Even if Bandai plans on doing a more screen accurate special color version, it should've looked more like the movie version to begin with. Especially when the competitor has already got this down which is mind boggling.

At this point there’s only one thing holding Hiya back for GxK figures: why haven’t they revealed Kong and Skar King yet? Even then, if Western fans are anything like me then Hiya has proved themselves as so much better with MonsterVerse figures that they’re willing to wait.
And for the ‘89: do you know when the last time a figure came with the classic blue Heisei era beam? It was the first issue of the 1994 figure, the very first release of the entire line 13 years ago 😭

Screen accuracy is an easy point to win from the fans though. If SHMA could make their figures cheaper by making them screen accurate (which most people want anyways because it’s from a movie, duh) and ditching that Japanese designer they have alter their molds I’m certain most people would be fine with that. But they most likely overcharge their toys because of that guys involvement alongside their own greed. Hiya’s Godzilla mold looks so much better standing next to Bandai’s Godzilla mold BECAUSE it’s much more screen accurate. Next to each other one looks like Godzilla while the other looks like a custom figures. The “fan favorites” you mentioned are only such because it’s not like Bandai made a second screen accurate version of Godzilla/Kong after their initial releases. “Something is better than nothing” is Bandai’s motto with their MV line right now.

You don’t have to read if you don’t want to, Im 100% sure that Nobody is going to buy this $200.00 small playmates looking Shimo figure, I still don’t understand why this SHMA line has not shut down yet, they can’t compete against Hiya toys considering collectors would still buy Hiya version over SHMA when it comes Accuracy, price, and more articulation then SHMA honestly, plus $200.00 to me is nothing compared to how much I spent on mobile In-app purchases for one of the mobile games i like, but yes $200.00 just for one single figure with no accessories if not courting kong’s clutching head, makes no sense anymore and that price costs just as much as original release of King Ghidorah 2019 and Mecha-king-ghidorah, I just don’t care what I looks but what I absolutely angry about is that is not that big or smaller then the Hiya version and yet still charges up for $200.00, which is disgraceful.

  • @jaxsaurus
    @jaxsaurus 3 месяца назад +1

I'll be honest, my issue isn't even so much the price. It's a mighty price to be sure, but she is massive, and I'm sure the tooling was nothing to sneeze at. Couple that with it being an import, and I can almost understand the price. My issue is more that I don't think the figure looks good. It's got a similar problem to the SHMA Ghidorah 2019, where it's extravagant and impressive at a glance, but it withers under the lights so quickly that it loses its appeal (at least for me.) Similarly to Ghidorah, the movie likeness is suboptimal, (I'm guessing because they have to start working on these so far in advance, concept art is the best they have?) and the paint detail is severely lacking. Maybe that's a consequence of the expensive nature of the mold, but it's still worth mentioning. Shimo's colors in the movie are more complex than can reasonably be achieved on an affordable Playmates figure that's meant to withstand some rough play, and Hiya seems to have achieved a much closer approximation of how she looked in the movie. I don't think basing the figure on concept art is a problem in a vacuum. Where I think it becomes an issue is that the monster cast of the movie won't look as unified as they should. As for their including parts of Kong with the other releases, it bears mentioning that the concept of BAF is not a new one. It's one thing when applied to a set of five $20 figures. These are figures anywhere from $70-$200, which in my view defeats the purpose of a BAF. As much as I love Bandai and the things they produce, they pick the weirdest hills to die on, like with the new BioGoji. It seems like such an arbitrary omission. They even could've charged like $15 more for including the beam (for which they already have the molds.) It's very strange. That being said, you make a good point about how the west is ostensibly the secondary market for these figures. Which is why I try not to complain too much about price. The issues with the figures themselves still stand though, in my view. I'm sure there'll be plenty of folks who will love this, and that's awesome! There's certainly an allure to the grandeur of it, and I wouldn't blame anybody for being stoked about it or wanting one. It's easy for me to sneer, being as SHMA isn't an interest of mine, so it's important to keep other perspectives in mind, which I feel like you do a good job of.

Plus im sure some people would prefer to have a large Shimo figure (especially if they want her to be more size accurate). Like me for example, im still waiting for Y-MSF to release their Biollante (final form) figure even though the "Movie Monster Series" toy is probably still available but I don't like how small it is compared to the rest of the 6 inch figures from the same line. 📏🦎🌹
Im surprised to see the Japanese reception for the figure to be are more positive (granted I know thats their audience but still compared to the western side lol). Also those were some awesome burns (6:13) lol. 😏💻🔥😆

To be honest, I'm not surprised at Shimo's price. Looking at Godzilla Evolved, that's twice of how much the GvK costs despite not being any much difference in size or accessories. But we all know the price is going to be expensive and be P-Bandai. I might even buy it if it were regular release (pay later instead of paying at pre-order) but no way am I able to afford it at this price. So I knew from the get go that I'm skipping this before it was even announced.

The SHMA Shimo isn't "Absurdly large" she's the scale she's supposed to be when compared to the SHMA Godzilla. Hiya severely undersized their Shimo.
I'm not picking up the BioGoji, cause I have the standard release, but I'm absolutely grabbing the Shimo. I've already got the Spiral Toys statue and the Hiya on Preorder.

I feel like it's more that SHMA took that one scene with Kong where Shimo is absurdly large. It's kinda like Attack on Titan, where sometimes Colossal Titan is waay too big for 60m, same for the walls. But is done so for artistic choice. Generally I think Shimo should be a tad shorter than Goji in quadrupedal pose

@@panduallen6712 she isnt shorter than Goji in the film, why would she be shorter as a figure? The Hiya Shimo is too small for her Goji and even she isnt shorter than her Goji. I'm not a consol wars kid eager to pit one side against the other (I'm getting both) so you can prefer the Hiya because of its more film accurate head and more noticable paint apps, but the Hiya is still too small

It’s weird that Bandai just shown off their MMS Shimo a while ago and that one seems like it IS based off the final CGI model when comparing it yet the concept art is what is used for the high end Monsterarts. Did they only have the concept art for most of duration of the figure designing / creation? Did Bandai not care and just used what they preferred? Was this mandated by Toho or Legendary? Was it little bit of everything? Who knows! All I know is, Hiya shown off theirs like, what 2-3 months ago? And it’s around 3-4 times cheaper, it clearly has better paint apps, it’s more accurate to the on screen appearance, and offers (personally) better looking joint cuts and some articulation the SHMA lacks. So it’s odd that Hiya gets it right off the bat yet Bandai can’t….despite probably getting the resources around the same time and both companies working on these figures around the same time. So really, who knows. It’s just interesting if it is a case that Hiya is the company being trusted with the final models while Bandai possibly being told to use the concept art for most of the creation phase. To me there’s a clear choice for my wallet.

I am a huge stickler for size accuracy in my figures, and to be honest the SHMA seems very oversized, like pre GxK release fan size estimation oversized. While the Hiya Shimo may look a teeny bit small in the Hong Kong GxK debute showcase, it's honestly pretty hard to tell due to GxK itself having a scaling issue alla KOTM, where Shimo looks far smaller in Rio than she does in her introduction. All-in-all, probably going to just avoid the SHMA shimo and buy the Hiya instead

I can understand wanting to make that "center piece" figure, like Biollante or Monsterverse King Ghidorah, but this is still far more expensive than those, and comes with far less in terms of accessories. The accessory you do get requires another figure to use. Thats a common bandai tactic but not for such an expensive figure, doing it with skar king is still annoying but expected. It does feel like they're running a bit tone deaf with their markets, Hiya, Super7, Mezco and even Playmates are doing better making better bang for your buck toys that feel like their products make sense for their intended market.

I genuinely have no clue why they made the figure that large. My main issue with it though is the head. For some odd reason, they removed the muscles/flesh that connect the upper and lower jaws at the corners of the mouth. The concept art even has those jaw muscles. it’s just common sense for those jaw muscles to be there because literally all animals have muscles like that in some way. Godzilla would look so odd with his removed as well. I really don’t understand why this happened with Shimo

I know I also said SHMA Shimo looks like Playmates, but yea issa hyperbole statement that I said jokingly. Kinda not if we're talking about the muted detail due to lack of paint, but in general, yea issa hyperbole joke. I didn't realized that you said inches in that post, I thought it was cm. Holy hell it's almost twice the lenght of a standard issue ruler. I think they go with that one scene with Kong. It kinda felt like an Attack on Titan situation, where some shots are waaay out of scale on purpose for artistic choice sake. But it's possible to do that sorta stuff with photography no? Iirc Harold done it with Kong and Goji, and it looks phenomenal. I get that not everybody going to have the skills and equipment to pull it off, but neither do everybody got deep pockets and huuge shelf space. I am curious why they didn't do articulated fingers on Shimo but do it for SK. Is it cuz production cost or cuz Hiya had done it?
I am surprised but not really with the Jp reception. They would say Hiya looks cool and all, but their go-to would always be SHMA by the end of the day. The wordings too, like man Jp truly held back all punches in public. Give them the mask of anonymous and bam, they're just as sharp tongued as the rest of us. While it is too much to complained at every SHMA releases, but for some cases, there are genuine criticism to be made. I get it, their maket is Jp, so they concern about the Jp reception faaaaar before even one overseas voice took into consideration. But it is confusing to me how they were going to maximize profit that way. I noticed that region lock thing is everywhere in Jp. A prominent case is in gacha game. Jp got good gacha games, popular franchise known by overseas, but never got a global release, many needed VPN to download and play. Meanwhile Ch, took the Jp aesthetic, make them accessible for everyone. The big player in the current market, Mihoyo, Kuro Games, Azur Lane, all are Ch company but using heavily Jp aesthetic. They got soo much potential had they tap into the international market, both figures and games. Anime is also an issue since ppl who do wanted to buy official releases can't or too difficult, so pirate site is sooo popular. Yes now Crunchyroll issa thing but their roster ain't complete and it's still not worth it even with Buyee to ship them straight from Jp. Also it's kinda intresting that one would brought up how had Hiya doesn't exist, ppl would be ok with it and buy it. Which is a point in your argument that it's exactly why both need to exist. Cuz had SHMA stayed being the only fish in the pond, we got no things to compare them to. My friend love Gundam, and Bandai is the only player for Gundam. But when these Ch companies making a Gundam-esque releases, high quality, cheap price, phenomenal engineering, he then began picking up the current decline in Bandai's quality. One of which is easily stressed plastic, some even break with little pressure, etc. So yea, had SHMA stayed the only player, it's more like ppl would be excusing everything cuz it is the only way to get the figure they want and there's nothing to compare. They could decline in quality but ppl won't bat an eye. It's not really a bulletproof argument from that dude, huh.
I really love what they did with the dorsals on Bio-Goji there. It looks good, but yea... why no beam. I know I'm in an opposite camp from yours in terms of beam inclusion. I personally expect beams in every kaiju SHMA release that can shoot beam, cuz you most likely would never get a beam ver. release anyway. Or for some, the beam ver. color would only be on the area they shoot the beam, so might as well get it on default. I excuse default not getting beams for Hiya cuz it's a near guarentee to get beam release later on with the same cheap price. It is justifiable on the default releases tho, I'm with you on that. But yea, it's twice the bullshit if the beam ver. didn't came with one. And I am an example of ppl who are new to the hobby and don't have any spare effect parts. I only started collecting Goji stuff back in 22. I don't have any beams for any SHMA, like 21 Goji and MG. 21 Goji issa supposed beam ver. but why no beam. Getting 19 Goji issa task, especially at a good price then. So not an option. I'm also hesitant to buy 54 anniversary, despite I could get it for $60-70, cuz I don't wanna buy a stand since I got no spares.
I'm curious if they're going to further implemented the DLC marketting ploy. I'm sure there's a name for it, but I'm just calling it that. We've seen it in SHF Ultraman way before SHMA Goji. I wonder if GxK issa testing ground and further down the line they may do stuff like not giving beam to a beam ver. Goji, bbut you could get it if you buy this PB huuge enemy kaiju. That happened with Shin Ultraman, you need to buy the gigantic Zetton to get the ultra slash kousen. It could happen to Goji down the line. I just hope Hiya would never do that. Give me the communist pricing and multiple repaints, but never gave me a DLC ploy.
