In Tamil Nadu, India there are govt school kitchens where they cook food for lower income students. And atleast once a year we hear the news school children died because of lizard fell in the food. Now it is very less, In 1980's these news use to come once a month. These lizards are very common in our homes. When I was kid, I had 4-5 fishes in a jar. A lizard came into the jar to eat them but it could not eat any of them. It kept its bottom side with 2 of its feet and tail submerged in the water and killed my fishes. My mother told me that there is poison in the tail of the lizard.

> “The reason for calling the gecko 'fuwaysiq' (a little evildoer) is because of its harmful and corrupt nature, as it spreads filth and is considered a pest in homes.”
He also mentions the incident related to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) (PBUH):
> "It is said that when Ibrahim was thrown into the fire, every animal tried to extinguish it except the gecko, which blew on the fire. Therefore, the Prophet (PBUH) commanded that they be killed."
This part of the commentary further emphasizes the harmful nature of the gecko and connects it to symbolic evil, which is why it is recommended to kill them.
Ibn Hajar also discusses the reward system mentioned in the hadith for killing a gecko in a single blow, then in two, and so on. He highlights that the reward is greater for killing the animal in a single blow because it minimizes its suffering, in line with Islamic teachings on mercy towards creatures, even when they are being killed.
For further details, the commentary can be found in Fath al-Bari under the Book of the Beginning of Creation, where he elaborates on the nature of the "fuwaysiq" and other animals mentioned by the Prophet (PBUH).

Hunting animals for food does not decimate their population but sport hunting does as was done by the Europeans to the Bengal tigers, American buffalo, African lions just to name a few. Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) strictly forbade klling animals for sport. Sahih Muslim 1958b: "Sa'id b. Jubair reported that Ibn 'Umar happened to pass by some young men of the Quraish who had tied a bird (and th, is made it a target) at which they had been shooting arrows Every arrow that they missed came into the possession of the owner of the bird. So no sooner did they see Ibn 'Umar they went away. Thereupon Ibn 'Umar said "who has done this? Allah has cursed him who does this. Verily Allah's Messenger(ﷺ) invoked curse upon one who made a live thing the target(of one's marksmanship).
