    What a great and thorough overview of what looks like an extremely tough and versatile pack. I really like the design especially the lightweight yet stiff frame. I can see why you enjoyed running it for your bear hunts this spring. Plus I agree with the improvements that you suggested.
    I don't own a pack yet and hope to head out west in the next year or two with a tag in my pocket. Probably no longer than 10 hunt days and we may stay more mobile with only staying 2-3 days in one area. I know that outside of one's boots and the knowledge and drive to get it done, and skills with your weapon of choice that the next most important piece of gear is a solid pack. I checked out their website and at $675 it's out of my range, but I can see why it's in line cost wise with other high end packs like Stone Glacier, etc...
    Would be a perfect next big giveaway on the GrittyStealthy Locals community.
    I can see you using this pack during elk season. You can take the first load out with the bag and all then convert it to that light and fast meat 🍖 shelf/run and gun setup to carry out the rest of the loads in those Gracksaw game bags and Peax Sissy Stix for 4 legged packing out support.
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I learned a good bit. I am glad that I watched this one on RUclips so that I can see what you're describing.

    The pack looks to be well thought out and with a few minor changes you pointed out could be killer. I am definitely a fan of a load shelf. I've used KUIU packs with them for years and with all the straps and buckles you can strap quarters down tight and still strap down the bag.

    Looks really nice. I have been running a Kifaru Long Hunter for quite a few years. My biggest complaint about it is that there are not enough pockets especially on the side. basically a giant duffel bag, but I like the suspension. How would You compare the two for load carrying?

    Got a Elk hunt coming up in Colorado and I’ve been looking at getting a pack like Exo or not this Initial Accent, in your opinion which do you think would be a better pack for long term?

    Does the 8k stick on the hip heavier as well the heavier it gets? I need to be able to do 100 - 120 pounds 10 miles a day. I'm needing to carry 40 pounds of food for a thru hike 30 days. Initial Ascent needs an external frame 10k like the bergans powerframe! Meet 10,000 litters plus for month long hikes! Barney's in Alaska makes one also called the Alaskan Yukon.

    Hey brother, love all your content !! How about having them make the top lid with some kind of strap and buckle to make carrying easier? Especially for night time bathroom runs. Lol

    Appreciate the heck out of your straight forward gear discussions. I have several packs and am poised to pull the trigger on “the next level pack” to round out my arsenal.
    I have been ready to pull the trigger on a Kifaru.... but now have been diving into the IA6K....and I cannot make up my mind! Can’t have both.... can’t try them on side by side.... looking for insight from you and others familiar with these.
    Any help is appreciated

      I don’t have an IA pack, but I don’t know anyone who has gotten rid of a Kifaru for another pack, but I know lots of guys who have gotten rid of another pack to get a Kifaru.
      The real test of any load bearing pack is the long, arduous pack out with 100+ lbs on your back and hips. Nothing, in my opinion, comes even close to a Kifaru in that aspect.

    How does it feel to shoot a bow with that pack on? You mentioned it was wider and stiffer than most packs. Just wondering if it would be difficult to draw while wearing it.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  3 года назад +3

      Great question. Drawing your bow is not a problem-the stiffness of the pack doesn’t impede my arms or shoulder movements; the pack stiffness seems to only inhibit some bending of the back. Dave Boroneo used this pack to compete and win the Train To Hunt events he participated in. Part of the event is to shoot targets with a weighted pack. Dave had no problem competing.

    Hi Brian Thanks for the review -interesting design.Keen to know how water resistant you found the Ascent backpack.Most major brands require dry bags and pack covers which add bulk .In NZ we are constantly getting wet and a major consideration is how much water will hold in the main bag.look forward to the hunt videos coming soon.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast

      I hear you. Next week I’ll be testing the SeekOutside pack-it’s made out of Dyneema/Spectra material and it doesn’t absorb any water at all. The SG, the IA, the Exo, etc., all require a pack cover. However, we treat our back with waterproofing Nikwax combined with a pack cover. That waterproofing spray works well. We just put it on our packs before each hunt. But you’re dealing with some serious rain in NZ. That SeekOutside material is sweet.

    After trying this pack on at this year's expo joe loaded me up with the 155lbs or whatever it was and my son putting the kids 30lb pack on. You was on a podcast but we flexed on you 🤣 but I purchased best pack ever! I'm cheap and have a hard time upgrading products. I'm curious how you would load your trekking poles when not being used? I like the sides but hate if it was to puncture the webbing sack. How would you suggest running and gunning but having them quiet, secure, but ready? Love the review and appreciate all your content!!

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Год назад +1

      We just strap the poles right on the back of the pack. Undo 1 or 2 buckles and the poles come right off. Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy the pack!

    Awesome review, hey is that that series 0 traveler still? I like seeing a carbon fiber frame again, I remember when kuiu came out with there frame and I thought they were saying it was the only carbon frame, I, glad someone stepped up and made such a unique piece really really exciting to see these companies pop up !

    Joe and Dennis replied overnight to a website question I submitted. That’s freaking unheard of! Overnight reply??!! If I hadn’t waited to try and switch-out packs this close to big game season opening, I’d have me an IA6K pack!!

      @@GrittyGearAndPodcast I'm running the Marshall. 6400 cubic inch pack I belive. Locking buckles all over the pack. Bag separates from the frame to create a meat shelf like the exo bags. Super comfortable
