    As a South Korean citizen, I totally agree with deploying the THAAD in south korea.
    Most of the South korean citizens think that the friendship between US & SK is very precious.

      Qalbe Hassan war never change, it will always happened. Can all peoples can be friendly, and peoples accept each other. Can it be no war, and all become one? Can that be possible?
      My answer is no. War happened, protesting alway happened, people argue never ends, fighting internet never change. Hating on someone, is the same thing on hating country. Its a cycle, war will never end.

    It appears that these villagers care more about their own peace and quiet then they do the protection of their country. These villagers seem very selfish and care little about their fellow citizens. Those batteries are deployed to intercept incoming missiles heading towards them. I just don't see the point in protesting something that's there to help you. These villagers seem to think that this is being done to militarize their country and draw them into a war. News flash, the US and South Korean governments aren't creating this crisis, it's the North Korean Regime's insistence on creating nuclear weapons. North Korea is creating this instability and fear.

      Ed E Well if the citizens don’t want it why is it there? What if Russia decides to put one in your neighborhood how would you feel? The US needs to stop getting into people business and worry about their own.

    • @ede7722
      @ede7722 7 лет назад +9

      I don't see your logic. The missiles were put there to help deter or defend an attack by North Korea. The missiles are there for the sake of the country's safety and well being. If some elderly aren't happy about that, too bad. A few versus the many. And yes if the Russians came to my neighborhood and offered some assistance to keep my country safe, I would appreciate their assistance. This has nothing to do with the US asserting dominance over another country or region, it is a gesture of good will.

      What a biased report! I know this is an old post, but as a South Korean, I feel compelled to straighten up the story. This report is not only biased, but it’s also poor on the facts.
      1. The villagers (farmers), are hateful of outsiders all together (and not just the American military as grandma made it sound like in the interview). The then opposing political party made the introduction of THAAD to Korea, a major political issue, and thus protestors in thousands stormed this once quiet tiny little peaceful village. Some of these protestors were delusional hippies coming from all parts of the country, but most are sympathizers of the North Korean regime (yes it’s crazy, but we have the kind). Now add that to folks from the US and Korean military trying to setup shop there, riot police trying to block the protestors from throwing rocks at soldiers, national and international news crew trying to cover the story = SHIT SHOW. Of course grandma wants to go back to the old days.
      2. Because the powerful X-band radar (an integral part of the THAAD system), points north and north west, it not only has a missile detection range that covers the whole of North Korea, it can easily be repositioned to detect what is going on in China. THAAD is going to be operated by the US military. The reason I say this report is biased is not only because the reporter failed to interview folks on both sides, it is absolutely non-sense that one talks about this issue without the diplomatic fall-out between China and South Korea because of THAAD. Because China has limited if any leverage over the US, it first blackmailed, and then executed sanctions against South Korea, in hopes that the South Korean government would halt the setup. Many big South Korean business ventures in China suffered as a result.
      3. At a national level, the vast majority of South Koreans do not oppose THAAD. Many are concerned due to China’s economic retaliation, but even so, most think it is a necessary cost to pay.

      @@junghoonkim-nyc That's really true. I'm Korean, too.
      The majority of South Koreans do not oppose THAAD.
      The villagers are agitated by leftists. The leftists are mainly environmental activists. As usual, they are much more interested in leftist agitation than in the environment.
      Korean people generally hate environmental groups very much.
      Because we well aware of their leftist and hypocritical behavior over the decades.

      They are an invaluable foothold within the northeast Asia region, and our only main base on the mainland in the region. The real benefit of the base is to provide America and its allies a forward operating base for inevitable conflict with China. Also, if you think that the Chinese and Russians "left NK long ago" then you are blind. While they do not have direct military installations, to our knowledge, in NK, they provide invaluable assistance and have proven unwilling to actually want to stop NK nuclear ambitions, despite direct threats to destroy America.
      The alliance between SK and America is like any other alliance in history, it's strategic and only exists for each nation's own interests. America has spent countless treasure on defending SK for the last 60+ years, meanwhile SK has chosen to take this for granted and just focused on their economy instead of national defense. At the end of the day, they are a strategic asset and it's always preferable that Seoul be attacked over any American city.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 7 лет назад +6

      Nathan Soumphonphakdy - I'm guessing you must be a SK soldier? Otherwise you completely lack any foresight into the US military's policy. I feel sorry for the SK if they truly think a reunification at nuclear gunpoint would be beneficial to them. In the end it just means becoming a Chinese protectorate.

    I bet if there was a missile flying over/into South Korea...all the sudden the THAAD would be celebrated real quick. I do understand why they don't want it in their village. Anyone would be like "why my town" still it has to go somewhere, and I'm sure there was strategic thought behind the decision of location.

    • @Raymondsun33
      @Raymondsun33 7 лет назад +5

      THAAD is defence against long distance missles. Also having THAAD in their village has now made it a military target where previously it would not have been endangered by attacks. If anything they've been more endangered due to the introduction of THAAD. Also you don't care about free choice, and the voice of the peopel?

    • @dudeirfan323
      @dudeirfan323 7 лет назад +5

      Todorius protecting the people comes first over their voices from what I learned in History and the villagers should be moved elsewhere if it's permanent. Have you not learnt anything from the Korean war? NK would use anything against its enemy to attack to go as far as digging under them to come from behind so the thought of village is not a target would be a nonsensical idea if you don't understand the Art of War.

      SK forces are very tech and well trained...and are likely some of the most potent in Asia. NK forces would likely be decimated by SK if they released missiles. When looking at the massive concentration and hardware on the northern border, there is no sneak attack available.
      The US is not required in SK anymore and it is pretty clear when speaking to most SK, there is little concern regarding NK missiles.

      South Korea spends 29 times more on its defence budget than North Korea does. Coincidentally, that is literally the exact ratio of U.S. defence spending to Canadian defence spending, just to give some perspective on how large that is. (US, CAN 2017)
      I think people can simultaneously hold the position that American bases and military presence in South Korea is overwhelmingly popular, beneficial and provides deterence/reassurance, while also not having delusions that the South Korean military would be helpless to a North Korean onslaught.
      It just seems really really disrespectful and condescending to South Korea, it's like saying that the US is based in Germany to make sure that Belarus doesn't simultaneously invade France, Germany, Spain, Italy and naval invade UK and paradrop London all of this happening on the same day. Like come on.
      The biggest benefit of the US being there in terms of what would actually happen in wartime, would be to surge lots of combat aircraft to do maximum amounts of sorties and ISTAR to destroy North Korean MLRS and artillery, that's the biggest threat to South Korea. South Korea is assured to win and may even win with relativley low military casualties, but their weakness is that they have no strategic depth and their major population centers are all in the firing line to North Korean MLRS and artillery.

    I love how she just avoided the question in regards to the US's presence keeping South Korea safer, my god it's amazing how ignorant and dumb they are behaving. The US army is there literally to protect your whole country, even if they go to war by their own decision, South Korea would lose much less lives in the process than what they would without them.

      They don't support Kim. If they did they would have posters of Kim and propaganda love for the North Korean Liberation Army. The elderly in Korea has faced a lot of tensions between the U.S. Military and North Korea which always pisses them off. The THAAD can't do anything (except shoot down nukes and missiles) It can't protect Seoul or any of their valuable cities. That's what the elderly think, the young doesn't obviously care but they're few who were taught about war from their grand parents. So all South Koreans aren't supporters of Kim.

    • @kylewolfe_
      @kylewolfe_ 7 лет назад +2

      They just don't want the THAAD in their village and all the military presence surrounding it because it makes them a target in the case of war. North Korea's top priority would be to launch a preemptive strike to destroy these missile defense systems before carrying out a full on ballistic strike on Seoul and the largest military installations. If they hadn't deployed these countermeasures here, the unassuming village would have no strategic merits for attacking it from NK's perspective.

    Thank you for the good report. For balance, please find and interview more old people who are more knowledgeable and know that the Korean War was the north's attempt to conquer and take over the south and, aside from Un's priority which is just to stay in power, he would do so if the US military was not there. I served in the Army at the original Camp Humphryrs from 1967 to 1969 when it was only a medium cargo helicopter company.

      Al gebra Yes, but the resulting government and economy benefited the south. I didn't voluntarily join to "fight," and the US has remained there after the truce as guard duty and the DMZ was not peaceful as it is today. About once a month there was an incident that resulted in at least one dead ROK soldier or American.

You can't just fight a war with might, you need the legit hearts and minds of the people, especially the people near your shit that keeps you alive. No need to have a Vietnam scaled conflict.

    As a South Korean, having the US as an ally has benefited SK. However, war is not an option in my opinion as there will be heavy casualties for all parties involved. They key is to educate the North Korean citizens about the war crimes their dear leaders has caused since the armistice. The citizens of North Korea has had access to more information through technology and is one of the reasons that many are defectors and live in South Korea. If we can have more defectors civilians and military personnel from North Korea, we would essentially reduce their military power overall and have more insight to North Korea. Lol destroy them within.

Most of South Korean agree with THAAD and other military assets from US. They insist they're locals but most of them are involved with false resident registration.

The US tactically moved in and set bases in Japan and SK. Im thankful for US being there and US troops serving our country, however, there are other reasons why the US hasn't left and kept building upon their military assets in SK and Japan. If taking out Kim Jong Un would make things better, it would have already been done, but its more complex than that.

    I love AJ+ but I had to dislike this video It is not balanced. If the US left S Korea today Kim would invade tomorrow. I understand the villagers feel they have to do something but any village N Korea that tried to protest would be massacred. If the S. Korean military moved villagers without proper compensation then they have a very legitimate issue but if S. Korea was left defenseless the villagers would learn the meaning of a true despot under the Kim dynasty.

    I agreed with those villagers. America should never have gone to South Korea as never to Vietnam.

      I agree with Vietnam and see where you come from with Korea, but the south koreans actually wanted a change. Most of the south vietnamese didn't really care about the cause.

    Camp Humphreys always was in Pyeongtaek the whole time, never was in the middle of Seoul.
