If you were to ask me what it means to identify as black in America, I would say I am from descended predominantly from continental African ancestry, from peoples of various ethnic groups and connected cultural heritage who were forcibly removed from Africq and enslaved here in the Western hemisphere. Who have fought since that time to be free and living their full humanity and who in modern history continue to be marginalized. Prof, you continue to ask people what it means to be white and they are either defensive, apologetic or angry. That's all the answer we need.
They will never answer that question only at their dinner tables or basements; but when they do answer that question then you will see the real them ( might be the last thing you see)…

I think the ongoing civil war is in the Bible Belt of the South. From online SHTF sites, conservative southerners are eager for war, completely unlike life in the mountain west.

Great discussion, thank you both very much. From a youth in the Caribbean we are fed copious amouts of American culture and polictics so I think ive been indoctrinated. I therefore find myself following American politics quite a bit. I also belive if the American experiment crumbles and fails, it will not bode well for global race relations and it will be really difficult for the world to get along with each other. No more Multilateralism. America represents a New Civilization of the coming together of many cultures, it represents something like the different races can get along. If the Tower of Babel is an biblical example of peoples coming together, and the subsequent dissolution, its not looking good for America. And finally it seems like Black Americans are saying we didn't build it and it doesn't work in our favor, so let it burn to the groud and then maybe we can all build anew. And the far W/right wing is saying"drain the swamp", which seems the same as saying destroy the experiment its been corrupted a la January 6th. It seems like believe or not, both sides and a large part of the country are consciously or subconsciously rooting for the American experiment to be dissolved. Ominous signs are all around.

Professor Hunter our hearts and our minds agree on so many things regarding most issues that we face, especially as individuals of the African diaspora, in our struggle for life liberty and justice. I have been shouting this point through a bullhorn from the rooftops for at least a decade now. Almost all of my friends family and associates have regarded my thoughts and perspective as either naive or somehow an educated. It's debatable if it can be defined as a civil war simply b/c AA have yet to consistently conduct warfare against our enemy (those that attack us). Many Latinos indentify as "white" and just the like the Italians and Irish, are being welcomed into "whiteness". Indians (both kinds, asians, and Latins/HIspanics (still need someone to explain to me how that is a real thing) are only "brown" as it is convinient. When it becomes no longer useful, they will shed it. Demographically, this country is presently of a white majority and an elite minority (Jewish people). We are moving to a Latin majority and elite minority comprised of asians. Please think, speak and converse with your guests with that fact in mind. Those trends still leave ADOS people at the bottom (Carribean and African immigrants and elites will be sure to remind people that they are "different") and in truth headed for extinction. First, a political extinction, second an economic extinction and third a cultural/numerical/geographic death as our regions and neighborhoods become smaller and more distant from each other.
