I dunno, it's been a tough week, you're half in the bag and suddenly one of Dave's video's pops up in your feed. You hear that character laden voice, you see the low-fi production, it's like a 70's tv show - you know he's going to fix the problem by the end of the episode - but you don't care, you want him to AND you want him to explain it to you like the way your grandfather did when you were a child and happened to wander into the garage when he was fixing something up. Dave just takes you back to a time when things were a little more innocent. The world needs a little more "Dave". God bless you, sir.
Thanks for the tutorial. My birthday's coming up and I may ask for some new pickups for my first bass. Going to have to find my soldering iron and re-learn how to use it.
You may not think it's an exciting video, but for us amateurs it's always exciting to see into the guts of new and different instruments and how to repair/mod them. I'm a techie who's spent some forty odd years in IT and now that I'm retired I'm thinking of maybe doing something like this to supplement my SS (at least staring with setups). The learning is the journey.
Hey Dave! Look what I'm playing in my profile picture. It's the same model and color Japanese Precision Bass from the early 1980s. I did the same pickup swap several years ago and it sounds great!
Nice one, Dave. How long does a squirt of deoxit last in your pots, anyway? I put Stabilant in mine, goes about 12 months. Insanely expensive stuff, though.
Hello sir, the positive wire of my p Bass pickup is soldered on the middle of the pot and the Jack is on the left side, there is no tone pot, it sounds ok for me but Just wondering If that might be a problem
Instruments stamped "Made in Japan" were made at the Fujigen factory, from 82 up until 96 or 97. "Crafted in Japan" are/were made by Dyna and Tokai and started appearing in 92 (produced by Dyna, subcontracted from Fujigen), in limited quantities, and in volume around 96/97, when Fender Japan stopped using Fujigen and switched to Tokai. Some instruments in the mid 2000's also sported Made in Japan decals, despite not being produced by Fujigen, for reasons unknown.
He has. He may have even done it on your exact instrument, wouldn't surprise me. But, even though he's pretty much covered it all, it wouldn't stop him from doing it again.
Hi Dave. I have a Fender Telecaster or a copy of it “ not sure “. The body and neck dated aug 1973 but back plate ends with a 69. I beleive all electric parts have been bought cheap and aded to it. Can I send you a few photos on messenger if ok? thanks
Only reason to remove the original pick up is when it’s broken in my opinion.... I have a made in Japan P bass with original pick ups and it’s one of the best sounding basses around. The new Fender pick up is not going to make a HUGE difference me thinks. But If you believe in it, it will. I guess?

No copper foil shielding or nickel loaded paint in the pickup and control cavity? No wonder so many basses hum and buzz. The ame thing goes for neck shims, they have to be made of hardwood and cover the ENTIRE bottom of the neck pocket not just a a tiny sliver of plastic of cardboard at the front of the neck pocket. That is pure laziness. The neck/body connection is crucial to tone and sustain.

comment of the month. Well said btw
@@evalroach666 Yep- Dave is my cool Canadian Uncle I never knew I had..
Yeah, it's definitely a salve to my wounded psyche.
Well said.

The SS doesn't exist anymore.
@@dunkelwelpling Really? Then where does my check come from?
Davey : Love the the new intros...
As always keep on doing your thang...
Hey Dave! Look what I'm playing in my profile picture. It's the same model and color Japanese Precision Bass from the early 1980s. I did the same pickup swap several years ago and it sounds great!
Love that Intro Dave! Real groovy man!! Great editing skills ... ... ...!!!
Scary sounds on that intro Dave but don’t be scared😜
My favorite intro for sure....well done Davey......
In my humble opinion, Dave's World of Fun Stuff has the best video intros on RUclips!
Thanks for sharing. I like this kind of video's. It's clear whiteout any nonsense. I'm gona try this myself. So wish me luck hahaha... 😀
You can do it!
Awesome new intro!
Love the opening🤣
I have the same original pickups, excellent bang for the buck.
I have an early 90’s MIJ pbass and put the same pickups in her. She’s the man!
Hey Dave, what a intro! Love it.
So glad it worked out
! Sometimes it's like watching an episode of I Love Lucy. What could go wrong? Everything!!
These intros are the best lol
👍👌👍
That’s a nice looking bass!
Killer intro!
The new Yosemite Fender pickups sound good.
Great video but I wish you would have stated what the pickup height is supposed to be..
old video - what wattage soldering iron? I'm trying to use a 30 watt but it won't melt the old solder on the controls.
watts means shit..the iron is 700 degrees F as per the tip installed it is a 60 watt iron that will do 600,700,or 800 depending on the tip
No gooch fest in today's video? Dave must had a most excellent day!
Your intro's are the bestest! Keep'r Lit.
I wonder how this is done with basses routed in the back, like my aerodyne
same
I would of picked some Seymour Duncan's SPB-1's personally but still sound good.
Dave, which tip do you use for your Weller? Cheers.
Nice one, Dave. How long does a squirt of deoxit last in your pots, anyway? I put Stabilant in mine, goes about 12 months. Insanely expensive stuff, though.
Why did you take out the plate from under the PUs.
useless in this case

Made VS Crafted: Made In Japan = '80s-'90s Fender Japan. Crafted In Japan = 21st century Fender Japan. Pretty much all there is to it.

Hey Dave! When did ya get the Fluke meter? Man you are running BIG TIME now my brother!!!!
Why is the thumb rest below the strings?
What wattage is your soldering iron for this job?
not watts it's temp. 700 degrees F 60 watt iron with 700 degree tip..don't but junk solder gear Weller USA
Hi dave, love your video. What pbass pickup height for each string you suggest
return of the Hooch Green P-bass
What's up with those stains under the pickguard?
Hey Dave. Could you make a video on the electrics? I'm sure there's other videos. But I bet your's would be better explained. Love you're stuff.
He has. He may have even done it on your exact instrument, wouldn't surprise me. But, even though he's pretty much covered it all, it wouldn't stop him from doing it again.
@@w13rdguy thanks, I'll go back and look for it.
01:42 Pete (wearing headphones) : "Thanks Davey".....
I installed those pickups on my fender player series and there’s this noise every time I touch the pickup. Do you know why that could be happening?
Your hands look a lot better. What did you use?

May I ask what are you going to do with the other pickups?
Only reason to remove the original pick up is when it’s broken in my opinion.... I have a made in Japan P bass with original pick ups and it’s one of the best sounding basses around. The new Fender pick up is not going to make a HUGE difference me thinks. But If you believe in it, it will. I guess?
New rule....P Basses must be test played through SVT/Frigidaires.
Why did you skip the part where you start soldering? I waited the whole time to see it for nothing 😢
An overwound Fralin pickup goes with a p bass like peanut butter and chocolate.
Oh Dave another one bites the dust😜
ok. Who at 7:02 in the video tried to lean to the left and look around Dave's hand? /Raises hand.
What!?!? No goochfest!?!!?
“I have to peel the other guys condom” - Dave. 2019
Made in Japan = Fujigen Gakki Crafted in Japan = other contractors/factories
Noice ......

intro orhestral track is un-shazam-able sadly (for me)
Quiet little start, Dave. Nothing to see here. Nothing to hear here. Nothing to do here. Barely above a whisper....
I swear 25% of the price is due to the overdone packaging on most products.
Aaaaand another Fender.....

That P-Bass looks like pea soup! I hate pea soup!
To the best of my knowledge Fender never issued "Pea soup". But Seafoam Green is a cool colour.
