Baby faced Power was mighty, but Franchitti was great at damage limitation and getting what was available to him. Kind of what Power did last season...
And don't forget that Franchitti was also God King of the Dallara IR07. Nobody was better in that car than Dario. It's also telling than Dario's performance dropped off in the DW12 to mid pack while on the same team.
IMHO, Dario Franchitti is one of history's most underrated race drivers. The level of constancy he had from 2009-2011 was just incredible (tbf 2007 was great too) You also had to factor in the CART 1998-1999 years and the 3 indy500's. WIll power 2022 championship was defo taking from the dario school.
I don't know the guy was a pole machine and won a ton of races just bad luck at the end of the season year after year. I was at Leguna last year when he broke the pole record pretty cool to see. Then the next day he got 3rd and won the championship. I saw him win in Portland in 2019. Great driver that's for sure.
Have heard about this finale a lot but never knew the story of the whole season... Power's inexperience and maybe a bit of nerves lead to that huge choke. Also Franchitti was just so goddamn good on ovals. Shame his career ended early with that crash in Houston
His in experience played a huge factor no doubt, but he did also have a ton of bad luck when he was managing to put a solid run together. Indeed it is. Franchetti was at the height of his career still.
Honestly 2012 is a bigger missing championship than this one. Dario straight up beat him. 2012, Will had to basically just finish Fontana and wrecked himself instead
@@Demise90Racing Not to mnetion he drove like an idiot in Baltimore and took himself and Franchitti out...which allowed RHR to win and get even close to the title to begin with.
The video kind of reminds me of last season where Josef won 5 races and Power most of the poles with only the 1 win at Detroit which was heavy karma after the Detroit race the previous year. Kind of crazy how big of a lead Power had that season and not be able to pull it out. Pretty cool video good stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing more small ovals on the calendar early in the season after the St. Pete race just seems like there is a month long gap they could put a Kansas or another oval on the schedule maybe Miami even if the weather is good that time of year. Maybe back to Phoenix without all the high heat later in the year. I am biased though since I live out west.
I really enjoy these videos, but “unreal pass on the outside” at Toronto? Come on. He outbraked Wilson nicely, but that’s all - it was done before turn in. Nevertheless, love these - you do the best job of anyone out there!
Maybe I did over sell that a little. It's a move that you don't really see there, but it happened because of a beautifully timed restart on Power's part. I really appreciate that man. That's a huge statement and it means a lot.
@@Demise90Racing Fair point. You’re the IndyCar expert, though. Maybe I should just defer to you :) Honestly - no need to thank me. It’s wholeheartedly deserved. Love them. Keep it up.

100%. I couldn't have said it any better.

@Demise90 you got this!
Being a Will Power fan in this era was rough lol
Can confirm😅

Fact lol
If you go to Mid Ohio Power still gets booed by some old heads because they think his greatest highlight 🖕🖕 should taint his legacy
@@lonewolf2513 those old heads are just mad😆
seasons like the late 2000's and early 2010's makes me wish we had more Ovals for IndyCar
Absolutely. The word in the rumor mill is Roger Penske wants more ovals. So hopefully in 2024/2025.
Wish it was half and half and it should be a 20 or so race season
Yet another awesome video... And congratulations on 4,000 subs!
Thank you very much!

I can't disagree with you. I was torn between which one to do before I started. The 2012 season is definitely a future upload.

It’s crazy to think how much Will Power improved on ovals over the years. Very good video I love Indycar

Talent (Power) vs Experience (Franchitti).
Two seasons the championship came down to Power v Franchitti, and Franchitti won both... goes to show what kind of driver Franchitti was.
No doubt. It's just a shame how the second one ended.
@@Demise90Racing Indeed. RIP Dan Wheldon.
will power was a road and street corse mechine at this time but like at the same very much struggled at the ovals

Yep no Monaco to work out of for indycar guys
Unfortunately not. But Helio was acquitted of all charges thankfully.
I think it would be very cool to see what this season was like from Dario's perspective
I will most definitely do that at some point.
