10-minute documentary and I never saw a single butterfly?? A strong, resilient people, dependant on each other for life itself. Humbling for all residents, no one life is worth more than the next. They could teach the rest of us an outstanding life lesson. Love your neighbour as you love yourself, hum, where have I heard that before?
This is the MOST FASCINATING SHIT I've ever seen!!! How can ANYONE DISLIKE this video???!!! I can understand them NOT liking the cold but WHY the VIDEO???!!!! It's VERY INFORMATIVE and these people are FASCINATING!!!
The coldest town on earth .. Short, bright and warm are the Summers. Oymyakon is close to the polar circle which means dark Winters and bright Summers. Freezing temperatures prevail September - May. Summer is only two months, from approximately mid-June to mid-August. Temperatures can reach over 32 C/90 F. Nothern Siberia has only two seasons in the normal sense: Winter and Summer. Within a few weeks, full Winter passes into full Summer and vice versa. The short Summer is sufficient to allow abundant vegetation and fauna.
The manager of the airport is right. The cold does make a man stronger and kinder. Bur not just there, but anywhere people have to cope with extreme cold for any length of time.
Tomahawk1999 Butt hurt liberal why don't you go to these countries and start screening with your liberal agenda please go to Russia and do it in their language when they ship you back in a box it.will be too late to realise your liberal agenda is not right. You are trying to force it upon people.
I've felt -30s F in my life, stretches of constant subzero temperatures, but this is insane. I would love to visit this place for a month to get a slightly adapted viewpoint of this climate, but I wouldn't live there. Not because of the extreme temperature itself, but how uncooperative everything becomes in it. I also absolutely can't stand that hard snow crunch that sounds you're walking on Rice Krispies. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Their summers actually get hot and mosquitos and other biting bugs are insane. The thaw creates horrible mud and other problems. It's just not a place for most people. These folks are really amazing. God Bless them.
Yakutsk is a surprisingly rich city, but at the same time very strange, where modernity (eg. expensive Japanese and Korean cars) meets the Soviet past. There are a lot of garbage on the streets and courtyards, and in the summer a lot of mosquitoes. But people are very friendly, as opposed to the big cities of the European part of Russia.
This is from the great program Savage Skies, narrated by Al Roker. Looking at faces like the one at 9:43 I just want to hear the stories of things those old people have experienced in such a harsh place over so many years.
2:35 ... Seeing them torching a truck just to warm the frozen oil and frozen anti-freeze (even that stops working below -60°F) and to keep the metal and aluminum from getting too brittle and cracking... That's unbelievable! What the hell is the upside to living there?
"My dog licked the water barrel, and her tongue stuck to it. While we were getting boiling water she struggled and tore her tongue off." - Oimyakon local
These industrious people can survive and live civilized in these conditions, while people in fertile, warm places like most of Africa can't build functioning societies.
Verkhoyansk, rivals this place. They're both vying for the crown of, 'Pole Of Cold'. Both settlements have officially recorded identical record low minimum temperatures of, -67.7C. Verkhoyansk, has officially registered this temperature twice, Oymyakon, just the once. All other data deemed for these two places is considered unreliable and is no longer accepted.
A very informative video. I feel sad for these people, who are constantly struggling to simply stay alive and meet their needs, and also at the same time, they have my heartfelt admiration, simply because they don't complain, run riot, but go about doing their chores to stay alive. A good lesson for all of us. However, the Russian government must look into the welfare of these people more.
have peta tell those people to be cold all their life, because some hippie thinks they shouldnt wear what they wear for centuries. sometimes extreme weather means hard choices. technology just does not work yet in those conditions. they may not want to wear animal skin. but without much money, they cant buy fleece coats and warm down jacket. animals are everyhwere, money is not.
The difference is that they treat their animals with respect and allow them to live pretty much normally. They also know that they need to keep the balance, because they are completely dependent on these animals. PETA is against dressing skins in Western civilization because animals reared for our companies to profit from the trade of skins live like in concentration camps. Life of these animals is a never-ending drudgery.
they have a HOT spring??? not fair, i call cheating lol jk...really tough, humble people. I wonder if it weighs on their minds if they would ever like to see the rest of the world in their single lifetime...hmmm..its a fascinating thought.

That is why Russia will be the last country with the largest White population.
By 2030 Russia, Poland, Belorussia and Ukraina will be the only countries with white population = the only liveable countries.

A human being is so adaptable, that what makes our species flourish. Unfortunately, we are destroying our home (mother earth).
Cold purify people. The countries that don't have a severe winter, the human being tend to be lazy and dishonest.
Why don't they dig the grave in summer time and cover with it with plank of wood, then they don't have to dig in winter.
permafrost all year
