I love the Link's Awakening guys every year, they're a highlight.

yeah, the guys on the couch were also quite surprised. I guess the host just wasn't listening before and thought "OK, silence, gotta get some donations out" :D
This was honestly quite disappointing. Ballad of the Wind Fish is easily one of my favorite songs from playing games as a child.
As one of the people on the couch, I can promise you that it wasn't preplanned, lol.
Well, it made me laugh, so it wasn't a total waste at least! (Unlike Majora's Mask... seriously, that's not the Ballad of the Windfish Link!)
Perhaps the announcer isn't familiar with the game and didn't know it was coming up right there? I doubt he wanted to do it on purpose.

Amazing runs by both of these guys. This is probably my favorite game of all time! Feels like it took me months to finish this on my GBC when I was about 10 years old. The ending to this was the only time I've ever cried while playing a video game. I also remember getting detention because I just couldn't stop playing this. Good times.

This was the first Zelda game I ever owned, and it's why I prefer the quirkier titles in the franchise. Fucking incredible runs.
The Zelda game that needs a 3D remake the most.
fadedsun303 Hmmm.. IDK man, LttP is still the top contender if you ask me. That said, how about this for a pipe dream... Since LttP, Oracle games and Link's Awakening are all the same Link, what if they did something crazy, and remade all the game's maps in one game. Think BotW meets Wind Waker. You start off in Hyrule, it's built to scale, maybe a touch larger than in LttP, but still generally the same, and once you defeat Ganon, the story continues and you sail to either of the Oracle continents, beat one then go to the other, get the true combined ending when you do, and then, when you set sail for Hyrule, you get hit by the storm (these can all be cutscenes, don't have to be sailing gameplay, but could be cool if it was) and that's when the hidden island from Link's Awakening appears, and you finish the game there. It will never happen, but it would sell like crazy.
Not every game needs a 3D remake. None of the 2D Zeldas need that. They are exceptional games designed perfectly in this style. That's like saying, "Twilight Princess really needs a 2D remake!" 3D is not inherently better than 2D... They're just different styles of games, and this was designed as a 2D game. These top down dungeons and overworld would be a MESS viewed in 3D. Way too big of a maze.
frozenaorta they aren't saying remake the game in full 3d gameplay style, yknow. a remake would be an update to the game, just like oot and mm got.
TigeriPlaysGames I get it. But those games were remade in a normal way -- they were 3D, and they polished the graphics. But to change a 2D game to 3D changes the entire game. It's a much bigger glass of water, and it would likely spoil the design of the original.
Actually I was talking about the idea of a remake in a 3D gameplay style, only because with all future games in 3D being like BotW, instead of like OoT or TP, I thought it could be a fun way to get classically styled 3D games again, by remaking 2D games.
But yes, in reality, the games don't really need to be remade at all, but I disagree they would be too confusing in 3D.

I don't know if it applies to this game buuut....!! In the original Gameboy game you could skip from the first castle to the seventh to get the flippers earlier, all you need is the feather. When fighting the last boss in the first castle, equip the feather and jump in to the abyss or let the boss push you in it. Immediately after you fall start pressing A & B button or the attack and jump button. If successful he'll jump up the screen before falling and that will warp you to castle 7 or whatever castle has the flippers. Note you have to try a few times before achieving it. If you're successful then you must traverse the warped castle, don't worry you can walk trough walls, if you fall into water make sure that when you respawn, quickly jump. After you find the first boss that only chases you defeat him and get the flippers. Or you can just step into a ladder and the game will fix itself. You'll be inside the castle. Get the flippers defeat the final boss and done!! Now you have the flippers and the instrument from that castle, without even finishing the first one. Note you'll have to swim back to the first area of the beach, there is no other way to get back since you don't have the power bracelet.

Why is SGDQ hosted in a walk-in freezer? bambooshadow is freezing his ass off, literally! (various other speed runs hosted here has the runner shivering too)
It bugs me that they keep bow wow for the whole run. That must be way longer than his regular walk.
Well, the final boss dies alot faster with the spell-powder and not the arrows...
So I guess you could optimize there.

This was my first Zelda game. Looking back, not really a great one to start with, since it kind of just goes out of its way to be unlike other Zeldas. No Triforce, no Ganon, no Zelda, full of references and subversions of stuff from other Zelda games.....but hey, it got me hooked.
I wonder, if you can do this well with links Awakening, could they do a Oracle of ages and seasons co op all rings, all heart peices, all items speedrun
The original Link's Awakening is actually faster, as it's a bit more broken, including just despawning bosses and stuff to skip them completely. As for Oracle of Ages&Seasons 100%, it is a category that's been run before. It's about 10 hours long though, so kinda unrealistic or overly boring for a marathon like this.

I don't have anything to do with GDQ lol. I just speedrun LADX and Oracle of Ages.

I don't like when the commentators get sarcastic about "this is the hardest part, it's frame-perfect, TAS only" all the time. It makes the viewer have to figure out on their own what's true and what's not. These guys did it a lot and it kind of hampered my enjoyment
