Let us simply hope that the same means that are putting other engines back onto their feet such as Southern 722, PRR 1361, and several others are then used on 1218. Who knows maybe if the VMT does get 611 out and running mainline excursions again, they can hopefully start actually raising funds to restore 1218. They could even send 611 somewhere such as the Reading & Northern (if possible) or, if they wanted to go somewhere closer to home, the Western Maryland Scenic (also if possible). Just throwing it out there as there are many venues for this to work.

7:13 A contemporary report in Trains described a crankpin journal failure near Anniston, Ala. which was corrected by removing the side rod, trucking it back to their shop and renewing the bushing. The rod was then trucked back to the 1218, reinstalled and the locomotive continued its journey. It was noted that 1218 was equipped with plain, not roller bearings due to wartime shortages.
