Kamala said she would cap costs on gas and goods to combat inflation. This same tactic was tried in the 70’s. This is what will happen. You have a product. Let’s call it toilet paper. It used to cost $1 to make four rolls, and they sold them for $4. Now it costs $8 to buy the same pack. Kamala tells the toilet paper company they can only sell their product for $4. But now, because of inflation, it costs $4 to make that pack of toilet paper. Because they won’t be making money off the product, they stop making it. Then there will be a shortage on toilet paper. No one will be able to find it and the demand will skyrocket. People will be selling it on the streets for $15 dollars a pack. Now, to fix that problem, Kamala is forced to lift the restrictions. The toilet paper company goes back to making toilet paper, but now, because of high demand and the street price being $15, they will sell their product for $10 a pack. Every economic scholar and top business executives all agree this is a terrible plan. It’s putting a lid on a pot of boiling water. In the 70’s, people were waiting in lines for hours to get gas, and then they were paying to much and you could only get gas on certain days, based on the last number of your license plate. The only way to stop inflation is to cut government spending. But politicians like Kamala don’t want to cut spending. They want a blank check to pay for all their pet projects and promises made on the campaign trail. So they come up with “solutions” that don’t include cutting back government spending. That’s why prices keep going up, the dollar keeps going down, interest rates keep going up….its a vicious cycle. Like it or not, we have to stop spending or our children will have no future, a crashed economy and a big mess to clean up. Not to mention a recession the likes of something we’ve never seen. It would literally take decades, probably more than our lifetime, to fix. We are at a crossroads. I for one am not going to let pride or prejudice get in the way of fixing the problem. I am not going to let my own ego and disagreement with how someone communicates ruin my children’s future. Trump is the answer. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying to you for their own agenda or they are brainwashed by the media and the corrupt. A pipeline, drilling oil, creating energy, cuts to spending, these are all things that will boost economic growth. Cheaper energy bills, cheaper gas. That leads to cheaper transport costs and brings down overall costs. It will make the inflation go down. And if the wars are your biggest concern, look back on the statistics. Trump didn’t create any wars and prevented many. He used a business like approach to makes deals with foreign governments that kept peace around the world and created prosperity for people worldwide. It shouldn’t even be a decision at this point if you seriously want America to bounce back and not go in a downward spiral. Remember, the people telling you he’s evil and saying he will take away rights are the same people censoring you, spying on you, trying to take away your right to free speech, right to bear arms, your right to privacy. They want to turn America into a socialist country so they have control over you. That’s the truth you won’t hear on MSNBC.

She didn't say price control. She is proposing that companies should make a fair profit and not make the record profits they have been making by charging consumers prices that are not aligned with production / transport cost increases. How do you explain companies driving up prices purportedly due to inflation and the increased input costs but then still making record profits and bragging about it to their shareholders? This is due to price gouging, which arises where there is insufficient competiton or collusion between competitors to fix or keep prices high so that they can all benefit. Yes, price fixing is illegal and as I understand it, Kamala wants to have greater powers to investigate and prioritize the enforcement of these laws. @@dsexton72 Hmm, first off, the prices aren’t going to go down unless we enter into a period of deflation, which can be more destructive than inflation. Well, there is a slight possibility that they could go down, but highly unlikely, and that is if the energy prices are significantly reduced. See, famers rely on gas / diesel to actually work the farms. Same with ranchers. The entire supply chain relies on electricity (mostly generated by coal / natural gas) to run. Every step of the supply chain relies on some form of gas / diesel / coal / natural gas to transport the products. You could shave off a few cents by lowering those costs, but in the end, when prices go up during inflation they stay up. She is lying when she says she can bring prices down (well, without using some sort of government mandate that forces the prices down).
Let us not forget that she mentioned a week ago that she would raise minimum wage ... which would rase the cost of food as well. So, how could you cap the profits of a company (you would have to cap prices to cap profits) so that it is lower than they are now, while also raising the min wage? Only Walmart and Target, or similar department / grocery store combos would be able to survive after that.
But ... hey ... I’m not trying to fool people into voting for me, so what do I know.

    • @dsexton72
      @dsexton72 2 месяца назад

@@andrewclear8905 So basically, this is what you are saying:
      1. Raise minimum wages = corporations will punish us by raising prices.
      2. Keep minimum wages at current levels = corporations will still get record profits but they will not punish us by continue to raise prices.
      3. If Harris becomes President, she's lying when she says she can lower prices = If Trump becomes President, he can get companies to lower prices for us.
That last one may be a bit of a stretch but you see where I'm going with this. You went through that entire spill about how food producers rely of fossil fuels and natural energy just to say that she's "lying" about something that clearly has not been proven yet. So let's look at some things.
There are ways the government can try to bring prices down:
      1. Price control - A BIG NO, NO - especially in a democracy. Although, it could prevent sky-rocketing record profits that DIRECTLY hurt consumers.
      2. Encourage and support competition - which could also mean breaking up these mergers and monopolies and forcing these BIG corporations to splinter off some of these brands into independent entities.
      3. Provide more money to residents to offset prices - again, not ideal because then corporations will figure out some way to raise prices again to see profits. Just look at how raising the minimum wage does this alone, when every time it is raised, companies are quick to say that it will cause them to raise prices to offset increased production or something to that effect. Don't even let me get started about how a UBI would come under fire!
Because of the very nature and complexity of the economy, there is really no clear way how this can be implemented without some form of absolute control (something only one candidate has floated the idea of. Here's a hint, he's orange). However, I believe you are factually incorrect in your assumption that she is lying because as President, she can absolutely attempt to implement something to help with this. The problem is all about execution and who in Congress and the corporate world feel that it is IMPORTANT for the consumer to be able to afford goods at the expense of lower prices, which only hurt the record profits of conglomerates and their stakeholders.
Also, the prices going down does not mean we are in a period of deflation. Prices going down mean we are in a period of disinflation. While in that period, the demand of goods and the supply of goods could enter equilibrium and thus even out, which is where we want to be. Deflation means that prices CONTINUE to go down to the point where the goods have little to no value. Probably the reason why Trump order OEPIC to stop drilling for oil during the pandemic in order to drive gas prices up. We were in a period of deflation during COVID, I believe...but it's just my opinion. Now we are experience inflation in certain areas, not all, but enough for it to hurt.
She's not trying to "fool" anyone...not anymore than Trump has and continues to do so because for some reason, most think he will magically make prices go down as well. This will not happen under his watch either, not without HUGE tax breaks and incentives that will continue to benefit corporation...and still have us in inflation. But they will gaslight enough of us to believe that's not the reason why we are struggling. It's the illegal immigrants taking jobs, or the indoctrination of young people to the alternative culture, or CRT or lack of Christanity in schools or something like that.
But like you said, I'm not trying to "fool" people into voting for me, so what do I know.

Furthermore businesses are struggling post pandemic due to the greed of corporate landlords that create a monopoly on the real estate market. By interjecting and enforcing the current antitrust laws on the books it will create more competition on the market which will lower pricing. This seems to be the path VP Harris is looking to take. If you want the USA to experience the economic struggles of a third-world country or the oppressive conditions of a communist regime like North Korea, then by all means, vote for policies that support government control over consumer prices. As a Sri Lankan, I've seen firsthand the damaging effects of such policies.
When the government sets prices for consumer goods, it disrupts the natural balance of supply and demand. Producers respond to these fixed prices in ways that often worsen the situation. If the government sets prices too high, producers might flood the market with excess supply. Conversely, if prices are set too low, producers may withhold their goods, leading to shortages. This mismatch creates a cycle of rising demand and escalating prices, often resulting in the emergence of black markets. The ultimate consequence is rampant inflation, which can severely harm the economy and the people who depend on it.
Let’s not repeat these mistakes in the USA.

Inflation is a % of increase over the last % of increase. Inflation hasn't gone negative. The prices are just going to stabilize at the new higher inflated price. Economics 101

During Donald Trump's presidency, a series of tariffs were imposed on China as part of his "America First" economic policy to reduce the US trade deficit by shifting US trade policy from multilateral free trade agreements to bilateral trade agreements. . This forced all countries trading with these two countries to tighten trade agreements, causing undue pressure on agriculture, livestock and mining industries. The trade restrictions also caused concern in the automobile and electronics industry. This added to recessionary pressure and would cause incalculable damage to the work done on environmental issues. Allied countries around the world had to show solidarity with Trump's policy. Of course, this was due to a traumatic change in economic policies due to the Covid recovery. The Trump administration, along with the Covid recovery period, has put many countries on the brink of financial concern. It is only now that many of the tariffs have been lifted that we are seeing economic growth again. The world cannot stand another Trump push for financial independence, and this time there is no doubt that several countries will not get involved in the economic battle that will leave the United States on the sidelines. At the beginning of the day, everyone wants to compete on a level playing field. As you know, we have four types of tariffs applied to try to do that. But there will always be a loser. Tariffs hurt consumers because they increase the price of imported goods. Because an importer has to pay a tax in the form of tariffs on the goods they import, they pass this increased cost on to consumers in the form of higher prices. But when you jump from 8 or 10 percent to more than 200 percent, as happened in the Trump era. Some countries have not yet fully recovered.
