What a great mentor you have in Clyde. Alaskan winters are not to be taken lightly. Keeping up with the snow, gasoline, wood, water & food is a full time job. The young can accomplish it, but it would be tough for seniors. The chicken dinner looked so good! Take care & stay safe.

We've been getting some of the cold temps now off and on the last couple of weeks here in Maine, now looking at a dusting but a much more substantial amount for Saturday. Travel safe (or I should say now be safe), especially around all the extra work -- wood splitters, shoveling roofs etc etc.

Alright you two, I’m really impressed that you were able to score such incredible land. I can only hope that the driveway out to that location is passable for Travel Trailers. Wouldn’t it be cool to do some form of homestead camping where, like Harvest Host, you camp but you also see the operation and in many cases, pitch in with some sweat equity? I know I’d love the chance to help out (when all that white stuff disappears of course).
Generators are awesome when they work. I have been lucky that mine has been a true champ. I loved seeing the weed burner being used as a way to warm things up. In Minot, we had to use them occasionally when the block heaters were insufficient to keep the engines warm enough to start up. Having that wood splitter is one handy piece of machinery. A Chief of mine once told me that he could keep me warm with only a single piece of firewood. You walk the piece of firewood up to the second-floor window and toss it out the window. Walk down, pick it up, and repeat for as long as you want to stay warm! LOL
I was rather surprised to hear Ember barking at you. To be honest, I’ve been following you for years now and this is the very first time I’ve heard her bark. It’s interesting. Is she not comfortable with the homestead yet? I can imagine that her enjoyment of the deep snow is somewhat limited without you bundling her up first.
Seeing Jim dancing next to the fire is always a fun thing to see. I applaud his ability to be so carefree. And yes, I did appreciate the klaxon alarm clock! Seeing Cynthia put the broom between her legs like she’s a witch and looking to the sky as if she’s about to take off was hilarious. Glad you’re able to keep things jovial even in a time when the snow seems oppressive. I do wonder if this is your property now, or if it’s Clyde’s? Does everything stay with the property? If it does and it’s yours, you two genuinely scored!
As always, Jim’s InstaPot Inspiration was incredible. There’s nothing quite like watching him cooking and trying to imagine the smells and tastes.
Keep up the great work you two. There might just be something for you in your PO Box.
