He's 34!!!! 6 more years and his contract ends at 40 years old! Are you kidding me!?
LTIR towards the end….increasing cap….Leafs will be fine.
Retirement doesn’t count on the cap
Cap recapture might apply at the end of this deal....if he doesn't go on Long Term Injury .
Can't compete with usa and less tax
@@TMBpk This has already been said if the leafs get caught trying to get out of the contract there will be massive penalties. Vancouver got caught on the lu contract for the same thing. You have to be very careful trying to do that.
I’d bet my entire net worth on this contract being bought out one day
It probably will and the Leafs have the money to do it. Might as well take advantage of that.
@@TMBpk there’s a cap hit to that
@@GrahamWinshipOr they can LTIR.
Age and health are the major risks. He’ll be 35 when the playoffs start but the Leafs have a 3-4 year window and have to go for it now.
Money is fine, he’s been on 4.5 for the last 10 years, so it’ll look fine as the cap goes up 4m every year. It’s too much term, but that’s what happens signing UFAs in a competitive market.
He will just go to Ltir most of the time
I have a sneaky feeling Tanev will never be able to play hockey again as soon as this contract starts heading downhill
The way he plays makes him a very sought after player and exactly what the leafs need. But it also causes a lot of injuries and you would think affects his longevity. I don't expect him to make it another 6 years.
Huge overpay
Same old story
4.5 is not an overpay. You guys are clueless
way too much term, way too much money.
Term sure, money no.
Cap hit is very friendly. The term is irrelevant as he will be either bought out or go on LTIR for the final year or two if he is not worth it
Yup, but as a Canadian not licking Toronto telecoms, I'll love their signings. Hearing the Homers cover other teams every playoffs is always funny. Stop being homers, & learning on-the-fly won't be as painful.
4.5m per year for a 6Year LTIR.
Brad you should have traded Reilly, Kampf, Jarnjrok and picked up Zadorov
Whackkkkkkk
this is a jim benning move
No cup for Leafs as long as Treliving is GM.
How many Cups has Treliving won???
4.5 AAV for the best defenseman available. That’s totally fine with me. WHO CARES about the term, he can retire anytime or move to LTIR. Leafs print money it doesn’t matter. The issue I have is their same 4 guys are still up front. The same guys that do not deliver in the playoffs.
Like or not leafs had to make this deal
Doesn’t matter. The Leafs are the richest team in professional club hockey. They’ll be fine.
Yes and yes
Really bad day for the leafs. Ekman Larson was bought out for a reason. Tanev would have been a great pick up if this was 5 years ago. Zadorov was the dman I was hoping to land and he went to Boston of all places. Will be more of the same for the leafs because they didn’t improve much on the back end or in net. Have not been too impressed with Treliving so far. First Reaves and Klingberg, now ekman larsson and Tanev. I hope he doesn’t trade marner and signs him long term, despite all of the hate from leaf fans marner is a solid player that doesn’t get replaced with the scraps that we are seeing Treliving pick up each year.
lol really bad day? They are a lot better defensively today, and that’s what leafs fans have been begging for for 8 years. Their issue is the core 4
I find it funny how tanev is considered old, Reilly is only 4 yrs younger.. Reilly best days are be hind him, his ability was his legs, the leagues gotten faster and he's loosing speed yearly.
Bit high I think but that is just me
He will be awesome at 40 and always hurt! What is this?
They Money isn't bad but it's way too much term. Is he going to play first pair minutes ?? He's not a top pair defenseman. But of course neither is Rielly.
Too much money for a senior citizen in the NHL. The Leafs keep doing this since the 90's. Signing senior citizen players and giving them retirement money.😂🤣
Yes, it is too much for too many years. There are a lot of hard miles on that body.
I rather sign him 5m aav and 4 years
Too much money for too long? FOR SURE !
It's 4.5 for 3 years. After that they will buy him out. That's how that works.
But Reilly never shows up. All this perennial Leaf gaslighting works like a charm.
Reilly was their best player in the Tampa series last seasons
Yes, too much
Canucks dodged a bullet. Tanev has looked slow this year.
Lol
Too much for too long. ✔️
Yes, but that doesn't matter, leafblowers don't understand numbers....
Lol leaf haters are just haters. They could sign Connor McDavid and they would say “he’s never won a cup!!” Your opinions are irrelevant
@c_telking4433 not an opinion, they have how many 11 digit players that are useless when games get real?
This is the year the leafs will win The Cup 😂🤣😝😜🤪😝!
Breaking News!!!!! Same old same old for the leafs signing they haven’t did anything good once again
Defensive guy that block shots…watch him block a shot game 1 and get injured right away..man is old and fragile…
watch him get injured and end up useless anyway lol
I think the Leafs are counting on that. Get him back for the Playoffs, minimal cap hit
This team is going nowhere as long as Shanahan is in charge. It's going to be another wasted year.
Typical leafs comments. Oh no. They got exactly what we needed he checks off the right boxes. But why not for half the money and 2 years and then only when we need him. Dillusional fans. Look into the entirety of the situation before whining.
to much andthen tol long tanev has a tough time staying healfhy for a month let alone 6 years. This guy will be on the ice in wheel chair by then. Treiliving is the worst GM in the league for this Look at what he did in calgary. To many old guys with long term deals
