Men are raw-dogging their flights. What does that mean and why is it good for society?

  • Is Western society lost because we’re all weak-willed wimps? Not if the men raw-dogging their flights have anything to say about it. Today we’re talking about free will understanding, as Jock WIllink says, that discipline does truly equal freedom. Jesus was disciplined and now you’re free. But what about discipline in relation to man's fallen will? We know that even the unregenerate have the ability to exercise control over their bodies, even if they don’t act like it. Let's take a look at Scripture, the Augsburg Confession and hear from Martin Chemnitz, Martin Luther, and Dr. Jordan B. Cooper.

Just saw that I was tagged in this. FYI, the term "raw dogging" is indeed sexual. It's been used for a long time to refer to having sex without a condom. It's only now being applied in other contexts, but that's where the term comes from.

Thanks for the comment. We indeed live in a culture that is in a constant state of transgressing the 6th commandment. I appreciated your post about the pastoral office. It's a little later in the episode. Good stuff!

My father is a LCMS pastor and Dr. Cooper's list is accurate. He left out having people sleep in your home, getting called when the car stops working, attend court dates, and all those other unique calls.

Haha oy! That's a tough challenge, I'm not too confident anymore. If I had to take a guess I'd say the Blantons stopper is the 2nd 'N'.

It’s a very blurry background for such a small object. If you would’ve guessed right, I would have been really impressed. 😀 It is not the 2nd N. 😎

It’s actually about Christ-crucified for the forgiveness of sins, which is good, true, and beautiful.

After watching this I had to ask my son. "Are you sure you want to be a pastor?"

Great question to constantly ask during school. Counting the cost is how we finish building the tower.

That title killed me 😂. It's an interesting entry point to discuss free will and third use of the law. Just don't try to make any merch encouraging "raw dogging" 😬.

Here's the thing: There is already PLENTY of opportunity to to overcome challenges just by your very walk with Jesus. To take up your cross and follow him means by very nature we're going to go through tough times. But those tough times not only strengthen US, but prove just how GOOD God is. While WE are weak, HE is strong!

It is not "YOUR" walk that saves you, It is Christ perfect walk for you. The admonition to take up your cross was to show you that you cannot take up your own cross. This is why Christ did it for you.
Trials and tribulations strengthen your dependence upon Christ and Him crucified for you.

I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, it's good to see people not satisfying their whimsical desires and exercising self-control. On the other hand, I'd counter with two things:
1.) My self-control efforts aren't something I wear on my sleeve. If I'm doing it for sake of getting attention, I'm doing it for the wrong reason (Matt 6:1-16). There are things I do to exercise self-control, but I don't go telling the world about it.
2.) I believe in using self-control for a specific purpose. Self-deprivation can be good, so long as it has a good motivation, and is not done to the point of self-harm, or becomes a legalistic, monastic exercise in self-righteousness. But it ought to have a purpose and a reasonable limit. Abstaining from food can be good; but abstaining from food to the point of causing harm to your body (i.e., a crash diet) is not good.

I love you man, but Boeing planes are not flying death traps. The odds of dying on a Boeing flight or any other American commercial flight are extraordinarily low. What you said would be a violation of the 8th commandment of bearing false witness against your neighbor.

@@TyrelBramwell True. However, the media can tend to sensationalize things at times. On an average day there are 25,000 domestic commercial flights. The last plane crash of a commercial plane in the US was in 2009. With a track record like that, to use the term "death trap" is extraordinarily unfair. Lots of people work very hard in their vocations (including members of my family) to keep flights safe. Tallk like that unnecessary makes ordinary people fear flying, which is amazingly safe.
