    My lovely Dad was doing this in reverse back in the 80's on trains. He would spray the raised part first and then flow the recessed part with thinned enamel paint by brush. He called the technique flooding. Worked very well.

      Hi Matthew, happy to hear that this brought you back happy memories. I think sharing a hobby like this with friends or family is really great. Most people think it's a solitary endeavour, but it doesn't have to be!

    SO EFFING BRILLIANT!!!!! keeping the mask paint from drying on the brush is absolutely the most important thing - besides making it easier to work with, I've lost brushes because it dried too fast (another reason to only use synthentic/cheap brushes - it's not like you're worried about brush strokes anyway)

      Hi Maxduro, sorry for the delayed reply, and thanks for the feedback! For the edges I think I would use it with the liquid mask chipping technique I demonstrated here:Star Wars Legion AT-ST | Star Wars Hobby Tutorial Episode 1/16

    this is a great tip i was wondering how i was going to paint the trim on my chaos knights army that i am working on and im going to have to do this i also might have to try this on smaller csm models as painting trim on them sucks and my csm scheme uses inks over metallic so any mistakes are a redo

    Have you ever had issue with the paint layer sprayed on top of the mask ripping/taring as the mask comes off? Yours came off very neatly in this video, but I often encounter ragged torn edges at the edges where the mask stops 🤔

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Robert, no, that’s only ever happened to me with masking tape. Was that with Maskol or a different brand? Either way, varnishing with satin or gloss varnish could help you.

    I was going to get some of this stuff but i read online that it can ruin acrylic paints bc it contains ammonia. How did you get around this? It looks like a great product otherwise.
    Also that green effect is amazing!

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Jacob, I rarely use acrylic paints, so I cannot tell you for sure, but given Vallejo have their own (inferior) version of this, which stinks of ammonia and is meant to be used with their own line of paints, I am rather skeptical. If you varnish first as I did here, the chances of issues would decrease further. Given the price, I would get it and test it if I were you.

      I thought the same about the Vallejo one, although some sites list it as being water based. I’ll grab some to try with my Vallejo paints as maskol is harder to find in aus. Thanks!

    Now that I've seen this video, I can't find Maskol anywhere, everyone is sold out. Is there a way to use these techniques with Mr Masking Sol? I tried adding water, but it clumped up on the brush pretty badly, I didn't get that smooth application like in the video with Maskol.

      Sorry to hear that! I've heard really good things about Mr. Masking, but never tried it myself. Good luck, though!

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Mhico, sorry for the delayed reply. It takes a few minutes to dry - when it does, it will become mostly transparent. If you apply it very thick, it can take as long as half an hour, but that's about it. Hope this helps!

      As I explain in the video, you let it dry until it goes transparent. An hour should be enough in all cases.

      Have you had any problems with the Vallejo liquid mask that is too thick and clumpy in the bottle? And how can you make it like more easier to apply or if you put anything in the bottle to diluted. Thanks for your help. Great video tutorial

      @TheRaceForTerra  6 месяцев назад

      @@eddie1003751130 Hi Eddie, yes, that's why I said to stay away from other brands in the video. As for application, I just make sure the brush tip is slightly wet (with water), as I said in the video also. Hope that helps!
