Great review. Really appreciate the time you put into your channel.
Hi Corey! Thanks a lot! Yeah, this was a tough one because I actually sold it and went to the TRACT Toric, which I LOVE. Thanks for watching my friend!
Keep those practice videos coming, they’re very helpful
Best comparison video ever! Answers a ton of questions for me.
Thanks M! And thanks for watching my friend!
Send it in. Sent mine in and turrets are money now. Great review, really!
Hi LedGuitar! Glad yours is working great now. I'm not sure they could have fixed that parallax issue if it even was one and not just my eyes. Oh well, I'm very happy with the TRACT Toric now on my Vudoo and maybe someday I'll circle back to another Gen X scope. Hey thanks for watching my friend!
I love how you focus on the sport and your own view when presenting these things. You really stand out from youtube content.
Thank you so much for the kind words CD! I love the sport and wanted to focus on newer shooters and what they need to consider. I'm going to do an updated review of this scope, especially since I now run them on all three of my comp rifles! They fixed everything I mention in the video on newer models, and I want to give them a good shout out for doing it. Thanks for watching my friend!
Thanks for another great review. The lowest sale price for the Razor gen 3 6-36x56 I've seen last month was $2099. Hope the next batch has improved turrets.
Hi Common Sense! I hope they've fixed the turrets AND the parallax issue too. I think I may have just gotten a dud, but when you can only review one, a dud makes for an unfavorable review. Thanks again for watching my videos CS!
Good review! The amount of depth of field in parallax has pros and cons. What works for one shooting discipline doesn't work well for another.
Thanks for your view on the gen 3. I used it for a small rimfire match and was very please, I'll have to check at centerfire distances if I have the same parallax issues! I'm hoping not
Hi Womfat! I may have just had a bad scope, but others have had the same issue. Glad yours is working out well for you and thanks again for watching!
Good, comprehensive review. My philosophy when buying high end, high priced gear is the same as my philosophy when buying a vehicle. I never buy a vehicle in its first year of production, I wait until the second year when all the bugs have been worked out or not as the case may be.
Hi Jack! Yeah, with that said, I just cancelled an order for a new powder throwing machine because of how much I've been bitten being an early adopter...I'm done with the "new" and going back to the tried and true. Thanks for watching my friend!
Buying 2nd gen gear saves a lot of money and potential headache.
excellent review thanks mate! definietly keen on that new Zeiss S3 6-36x
Hi Robby! I got to look through the Zeiss LRP S3 6-35x this past weekend and I have to say I really loved that reticle. Now, the glass is not near my ZCO, but it's also ~1,900.00 USD cheaper. I'd say the glass on the Zeiss is about what the Razor Gen II glass was. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@The4GunGuy hey mate! Thank you so much for the advice and insight! Really appreciate the videos. Being from Australia we don't really have access to many new products and don't really have much to demo at a store before buying so your vids always help!
The Zeiss S3 can't compare to the Vortex Razor 3 the glass isn't as good and there's been many reported QC problems with the new Zeiss S3.
If you are budget restricted, the Bushnell 6-36x56 might be a better option instead of the Zeiss S3 if you don't need illumination.
@@commonsense5709 Absolutely correct CS...I would say it's at the Gen II level.
Great Video.
Thanks Chris! And thanks for watching!
Thanks for cooling down and putting together an objective review. I recently bought a used gen 3 and really like the reticle and glass. The turrets have the problems others have mentioned so i mainly need to pull up on the elevation knob while I dial. I haven't noticed a problem with the parallax so I'll be paying closer attention to that aspect. It might have been worthwhile for you to send your gen 3 back to vortex just to see what they would say about the parallax. Take care.
Hi Todd! Funny thing is that I sold my ZCO's and now run...you guessed it, Razor Gen III's! I'm going to do an updated video here soon on what has been fixed and how I now love these scopes. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@The4GunGuy -- Oh, wow man!! Thanks for following up. I got to look through a ZCO a while ago and was really impressed. Was there something with the ZCO that gave you the notion to switch?
@@toddb930 My eyes are so bad that not even the ZCO can help me now, so I figured why have a $4,000 scope? I got the Gen III's on sale and basically got 2 Gen III's for the price of one ZCO. LOVE the ZCO, just don't need something that good any longer.
Aw man... I just bought a ZCO based on one of your reviews! Are you saying I goofed? 😂 Serously, great review! I regret nothing with the ZCO. I just need another rifle so I can rock a Razor G3 on it!
Hi Christopher! Nah man, ZCO is still king of the hill in my opinion! Just do me a favor and get behind a Gen III before buying it to make sure you don't have that parallax issue like I did. Hey thanks for watching my friend and ENJOY THAT ZCO!
Great review, totally agree with you. Got my gen 3 glass, body and reticle were awesome! Turrets I found mushy and locking system would lock easy while adjusting in competition. Other than the glass I found my gen 2 to be a better scope especially when it came to the turrets. Even when I sent it back to have the turrets fixed it was better, but not gen 2 better. I was a little disappointed.
Hi CNS Gamer! Yep, pretty hit and miss with this one, but that glass is pretty awesome. Thanks for watching my friend!
Going with a tanged theta!!!! I’m up in Canada, so I’ve decided to buy Canadian lol
@@jacksardo77 Nice choice my friend! THAT glass is awesome!
Good review! I have been around some gen iii’s and noticed that consistency in turrets and firmness of the parallax knob has been really hit and miss. I do think the glass is very clear.
Thanks for the kind words Midwest! Yep, I've noticed the same. It's really a shame because I think they knocked it out of the park on the glass, but kind of let everything else slide. Oh well, I'm very happy with my TRACT Toric. Thanks for watching my friend!
Another great and honest review. But out of curiosity, are you saying the paralex adjustments on the gen 3 is too sensitive? Or that it was defective?
Hi Ray! It was way too sensitive for me, but my ZCO and TRACT are not. I was too frustrated to send it back but I'm not really sure it was broken. I've had others tell me of the same issue and others seem to not be bothered by it. Thanks again for watching my friend!
They absolutely improved the turrets fyi! I absolutely love my gen3
Hi Frank! You are absolutely correct! I've been working on an updated review and can tell you that I now run Razor Gen III's on BOTH my competition rifles (rimfire and centerfire) and am loving them. Thanks for watching my friend!
Thanks for being true!
Thanks Lenny! The funny thing here is that 7 months later I'm now running Gen III's on both my competition rifles and plan to do an update video showing that Vortex did listen to us all and fixed every issue I had with this original scope. Funny how honest feedback to the manufacturer can make them improve their process! Thanks for watching my friend!
Totally agree!
Vortex screwed up big time selling this scope with the crappy turrets!
I had to send mine back to vortex to fix the turrets, still waiting on it to get back to me.
There is NO excuse for why they did it like this.
Oh man, that sucks FB! They'll be great when you get it back though, but as you said, you shouldn't have had to go through that in the first place. How was the parallax on yours? Horrible on mine, but been fine on others. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@The4GunGuy I didnt even get behind the scope before sending it in to get the turrets fixed.
But ill report back when I have had some time behind it 👍
You’re supposed to adjust the parallax that’s why they yardage is labeled on it
Interesting. I have been using my Razor G3 since the release and my parallax is set it and forget it while at a comp. If I was to sell the rifle, I think I would move down to an XTR PRO. I also had to send my scope back in... now they are ideal. Not sure what there thinking was on release.
Hi Progressive! I know, it's just mind boggling that they'd release with these kinds of issues, but, must have been the time of year...Get the money when you can kind of thing. I'm a huge Vortex fan, just couldn't get over the parallax thing on mine and decided enough was enough. Thanks for the comment and for watching my friend!
Thanks for the review! Of course I bought the GenIII before seeing this and still waiting for the arrival. So hoping the turrets are updated!
I’m going to sell my Viper GenII to offset the price, but don’t know where to sell it…
May I ask where you sold your Razor? Thanks!
Hi Smethjt05! Funny thing is that I'm going BACK to the Gen III! I ordered two of them and will be selling my ZCO, which will basically pay for them both. I'm older and the glass in the ZCO just doesn't matter that much to me now. I am doing a new review of the Gen III soon, but I already shot one of them in my rimfire match last weekend and it performed great! To sell, you might join Snipers Hide which is what I've done. It's about $200 to join for the year, but there are NO transaction fees or anything else. I figure if you sell the Viper and a couple other things on there, you'll be way ahead of eBay costs. I've sold a lot of stuff on the hide. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@The4GunGuy thank you!! Looking forward to your new review of the genIII
This question has nothing to do with scopes but do you run a tuner on your 22 and if so what brand. Thanks by the way love your videos
Hi Kent! I used to run an EC tuner brake, but since I've gone to the straight, heavy barrel on both 22 Vudoo and 6mm BRA I don't run a tuner on either now, just an Area 419 Hellfire Match on my BRA. Although, I did get to talk to MDT today and they have a new brake that was VERY interesting and looked very promising, so I may get one and try it out. Hey thanks for watching my friend!
My 7-35 Mk5 has this same parallax sensitivity... and my same reason for not using it on my PRS rifle.
Hi Niles! Yep, I was really shocked at that sensitivity and that's why I mentioned that perhaps mine was a faulty unit. Others I've talked to have either had the same issue or not, so still not sure. BUT, it is crazy that I do not have that issue on my ZCO or TRACT scopes. Thanks for watching my friend!
2209xxx serial range. Turrets are amazing.
I'm seriously considering the ZCO 8-40 but I am having a bit of sticker shock with the price. I see in the comments that you are going back to the Razor and selling your ZCO's due to your age?? I'm 58 and just getting started in long range shooting so I am having second thoughts on laying out the money for the ZCO, any advise?
Hi Scott! First, I have sold all my ZCO's and am using Gen III's on all my match rifles. Vortex has fixed the issues I bring up in the video and I'm very happy with the scope now. A couple things led me to my decision. First, as stated, my age. I'm a bit older than you, and even after eye surgery, my eyesight is not great 20/40 and you can guess which eye is the 40...Yep, my scope eye. With that said, the quality of the glass, to a point (not talking about a ZCO vs. a $100 scope here), makes no difference to me, so I thought I'd get very good glass in the Gen III for now over half the price of the ZCO. Second, I'm almost done with the sport and probably have about three more years in it, then I'm going back to golf. I love shooting, but am not gonna be the guys I see trying to get into positions when they physically can't do it, so I'm starting to "wind down" my investments in the sport. I tell everyone, and I get nothing for this, that if you don't get any kind of LE/MIL discounts, join PRS for like $40/yr and Eurooptic.com will give you ~20% off this stuff, so a Gen III is very reasonable through them and they even have other sales that get the price down to ~$2,100 at certain times of the year. The ZCO is one heck of a great scope, you just have to ask whether you need that much scope or can your money be spent on other things. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my friend!
Hey I am looking at this scope and the Tract Toric UHD 4.5-30x56mm. The scope would be used for a first time PRS gun. The Vortex is double the price of the tract is it worth it. Can you do a comparison video?
Thanks
Hi Assgrabber49! If your PRS rifle is a rimfire then I would definitely say go with the Tract Toric (see my review on it). If you're talking about PRS Centerfire, then I'd go with the Gen III with the understanding that you may need to send it in for turret adjustment when you get it. Still, the glass on the Gen III is pretty awesome. If you can, I'd go to a match and ask guys if you can look through their scopes...Trust me, they'll let you. Thanks for watching my friend!
Why compare the ATACR 5-25 instead of the 7-35?
Hi f0r7ezz4! I don't know why honestly, maybe the 7-35 wasn't out at the time of the video or I just overlooked it. Thanks for watching my friend!
For 3000 bucks it should be perfect, this makes me think the Nightforce atacr might be a better option
Hi Cody! I agree with you here. I've had about $5,000 worth of equipment I've purchased over the past year that has had issues and I'm pretty tired of either having to send stuff back or make a fix to the product myself. I may do and end of year "Not so best products of 2022" video! Thanks for watching my friend!
Has anyone had a Tier 1 turret move on them by accident? I NEVER have, not even close, so I think locking turets are absurd. You also wouldnt need to extend that white line at the zero bc the turrets would never lift up.
I also think Vorte should've added the 2nd row on the #s on the turret. Such a EASY way to bring in just a lil more value. Otherwise this is a homerun
Hi Kevin! Agree with everything you said. I've gone BACK to the Gen III for competition and it's so much better than when I did this review...Plan on doing a remake soon. I also bought the turret tape (white) and it makes such a huge difference in seeing the turret markings, especiallyon shaded stages. I bought the tape at idts-dryfire.com/product/ballistic-tape/. Thanks for watching my friend!
Is it worth the extra from let’s say a Tract
TRAVIS!! In MY humble opinion, I think the TRACT Toric Schott glass is just as good. So, you can get a Gen III on black Friday I'll bet for around $2,200, even if you're not Mil/LE on say Europtic or somewhere. I'll bet TRACT will have a $100 off sale on the Toric which would put it at around $1,600. I'd still go with the TRACT, but again, that's just me...That glass is awesome. Now I will say that the Toric reticle is thinner than the EBR-7D on the Gen III...It's more like a Tanget Theta thickness, but I'm fine with that. Thanks for watching bud and I'll see you at the Finale!
Tract Toric ELR 4.5-30x56 is now on sale until December 11 2022 for $1440 delivered during their 15% off sale. All other items are 14% off at Tract Optics. Less than 2 days left for this sale.
Did you test the tracking?
Hi John! I did, just didn't include it in this video. Scope tracked very well. Thanks for watching my friend!
Well I didn’t buy a ZCO rifle scope. Instead I bought a Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27X56 rifle scope. On sale at Europtic. $1725 delivered. I am very pleased with it. She’s a little over weight. But so am I. Like I tell my wife. Girth is power. 😂
Hi P47rr! You'll LOVE that Gen II. I ran it for a while and that reticle is the standard against which I gauge other reticles (EBR-7C I assume?). Good purchase my friend and thanks for watching!
