@Rob G no worries at all!! I totally get it!!
Great hack
@@NoFate247 thanks buddy! If someone has the equipment and wants to save some cash, try it out!
I would feel safer if i glued some strong magnets to the weight and added the band ontop for safety. Great idea i will try when i can rep more than 12 on my 90s
I like that idea too!! This one works with with 2.5s, 5s, and 10s and still going strong today!!
I do something similar with my 90 pound poweblock. I used some special heavy duty magnet: and special glue on some 5 and 10 pound plates. It allows me to go up to 110 on each block.
Super smart!! Holding up well?? Now they sell up to 100s and I’m like maannn really 😩
Yes very solid. My biggest fear is I don’t want to ruin the original dumbells. I wish they would sell the stage 4 again. Can’t find anywhere.
@@istallion13 yeah they are like MIA😒
if one of them plates lets go, you could end up losing some teeth. For extra grip you could try some velcro strips on the plates along with the bands. not ideal but a little safer
Powerblocks finally came out with 100s recently so that’s a win and this hack doesn’t need to be used
I don't think it is stupid. Very creative, but my cost-benefit analysis says to sit this one out. Commercial Powerblocks are over $2000. Avoiding the risk of jaw surgery and having to blend a Big Mac and fries to "eat" them is worth the $2200. But I always like creative ideas because they lead to more creative ideas.
LOL that Big Mac comment 😂😂 but I feel you man! It be dumb not to share and let ppl use on their own risk!!
@@LukesGarageGym As a general rule, I try to stay with what a tool is designed for, but I love diy, hacks and resourcefulness when options are needed.
@@briand5047 I agree! I feel like especially with limited budget and space, when you have the items and an idea, try it. I’ve had a lot of success with it but it’s something that I don’t expect everyone to follow suite yeah know!
Congratulations on outgrowing those 90s!!!
Thanks bro!! Took years of hard work and consistency!! Hitting 110 for bench was the the feeling ever man. Made me feel so good knowing my hard work is paying off :)
Great to see you outgrowing your equipment, LMZ! This looks like a much better option than when I used to duct tape plates onto my dumbbells.
Thanks my bro! With a strong enough band, it works just fine!! Saving me money for now lol
If you get a couple of "standard" db handles with the spin lock collars and get some 25 lb., 10 lb., and 5 lb. standard plates, you can go as heavy as you want. You can also get a standard barbell and use them to supplement your oly set up.
I have had well over a hundred pounds on mine (doing db deadlifts) and they hold up well, and are more compact than loading them up with a bunch of ten pound plates. The 25s are pretty wide, but you have enough room between the plates to press with them.
That’s what’s up!! What kind of plates do you use? I just struggle going super heavy with the plates that I have. I feel as if they don’t work as well going heavy.
The oly plates are Troy wide lip. The standard plates are mostly Fitness Gear from the 2000s, but I have some "Dan Lurie Brooklyn" plates from the late 60s or early 70s we got when I was in high school. Iron never wears out.
@@richardmather1906 they don’t! My dad got the dish plates from Titan. Seem solid. We got the grip plates from a local seller. Seem to be holding up pretty well.
Was thinking about how to hack my power blocks today at the lowest cost possible. Gonna head to the hardware store and find something similar to those bands.
Right on!! Let me know how it goes!!!
Great way to add weight without expensive extra gear. I dig it!
Exactly man! Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to get the fancy stuff (money of course), but with the awkwardness of the heavy loadable dumbbells, this hack seems to work better for me at-least!
Checking in! What's the algorithm? 😀
my man!!!! And dude who knows 😂
Nice hack man! I may have to try this soon. I bought some really heavy short bands from elitefts a few weeks ago. They should work perfectly with the PowerBlocks and the dumbbells at the other gym I use. I appreciate the video!
Thanks bro!! Let me know how it goes! Something easy to do with the heavy bands and shoot saving money is always a win!
Someone who is not as careful you could easily get hurt doing this. Getting hit in the head by a falling plate would not be good. Also, no matter how careful you are, the bands are only strong enough to hold a couple of plates.
Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells are easier to get these days. Here's another way to get to higher weights using adjustable dumbbell: (1) wait for the Ironmasters to come back in stock (probably around Labor Day, according to their website), (2) buy the 75 lb set, (3) buy a heavy hand set (to get to 90 lbs/hand, and then (3) buy the upgrade weights to 120 lbs (135 lbs with the heavy hand set). Definitely not cheap, but definitely safer. The band method probably doesn't get you much above 95 lbs. With Ironmaster equipment you can safely get way above 95 lbs. Again, not cheap, but safer.
A problem with dumbbells is that as they get very heavy they are hard to get into position for some exercises. At some point, you you need to stick with a bar, plates, and a rack (e.g., incline bench presses and other exercises).
What’s up dude!
I totally get it. If ppl are like naaa I’m good, no need to try. I’ve always been a fan of the ironmaster. They were my go to first piece to buy but they were SOO hard to get. Powerblocks pro series was the first to be available. This was all during the height of Covid! It’s obviously the safer option to buy stuff that goes to what you want if you have the cash!
It’s a video that if ppl are wanting to try! I made sure to mentioned many times do not try if you are not comfortable.
@@LukesGarageGym Ironmaster equipment is definitely not cheap. If you get it, you need to know why you are getting it instead of PowerBlocks or other weight lifting equipment. Ironmaster equipment isn't always in stock, but it currently appears to be in stock much or most of the time.
@@tomjones8235 good! I’m glad that they are now. I think I got my powerblocks in October of 2020 and man, it was a miracle we even got. Honestly man if I get the funds in the future, I gotta snag.

Another AMAZING video!!💪🏾💪🏾 This was a really cool hack!!💯💯 My bro is always thinking outside the box!!🔥🔥 From T.W.L.G.🤓🤓
My bro!!! Appreciate you!! Fun to get creative man!
Hello Luke, could you link the band you use by chance? I know you mentioned it was generic on Amazon but I'm not sure I am comfortable selecting something that isn't what you used seeing as you put up 100lbs and have used those very bands a dozen times plus
@@kennethbateman9613 here’s similar to what I used! What I had is not available anymore
a.co/d/gdDvfBK
@@LukesGarageGym Appreciate the prompt response bro! Subbed and keep up the great work 👍
@@kennethbateman9613 anytime!!!! Appreciate you!!
@@LukesGarageGym I just ordered and excited to test it out. Sorry to ask and hope it's not a stupid question. But I do love the idea of adding 1.25lb plates on both sides so I can suddenly get +2.5lb jump say 52.5, 62.5, 72.5, 82.5 which you can't really do with the Powerblocks as is. Would the bands even be practical for anything under 90lbs? I'm thinking this may even be quicker to add 2.5lbs on each side instead of taking out the adder weights lol
@@kennethbateman9613 You should look into Microgainz!!!
My favorite part was when it shot off at the end 🤣
LOL bro I didn’t listen to my advice of putting it in the middle😂😂 hard to share so that they do it right 😂
My man! Keep dropping knowledge and tricks.
AYYY!! You got it! Thank you so much for the incredible support :)
Nice hack man, I’m definitely the person that loves to spend more money to upgrade when I get stronger so for me it’s always motivation to buy heavier dumbbells 😂
Thanks bro!! And man you’re a bad influence on me because after talking to Tom too, I want to upgrade but I know we will go broke😂😂 until teacher salaries raise man I’m stuck doing hacks 😂
@@LukesGarageGym those loadable dumbbells should help while you save though. Buy some weight plates to get you by for cheap and save up man!!
@@GoreckiFit very true! Just hard bc it’s awkward going super heavy with them. I try to do this hack from time to time which seems to be working! I love use my loaded for like floor press with those hooks! Be easier to be rich and never have to make hacks 😂😂
Very creative Luke 💪💪
Thanks Jeff!! Figured I’d share and let ppl use if they are comfortable!!
