So many of the RUclips videos just show the catching part and they seem to go out of their way not to show how they are catching them. But you take the time to teach people fishing methods, and that’s why I never miss an episode of your videos. Thank you!
This is awesome watching y’all fish together…😂 We went to visit my mom in North Carolina a couple weeks ago and there’s like a little neighborhood pond that anyone in the community can fish… I took my little nephew down there and I stole a can of moms corn out of the pantry and her can opener because I knew I had saw some huge carp in there just riding by looking… Anyway long story short, he caught like a 25 pound grass carp and it made my day watching him fight that beast…😂 Ole Uncle Justin put him on the biggest fish of his life so far…😁 That makes a feller proud…😀💪🏼
Back in the 70s, my dad and I, used to catch 10 to 20 of these carp while trying to get our limit of catfish, fishing on night crawlers,in beaver lake, NW Arkansas
When I was a kid my friend and I were fishing on a local creek in east central Alabama and noticed carp feeding on Mulberries that were falling into the creek, we removed the lead and cork and put a Mulberry on the hook and throw our bait out in front of a feeding carp, we caught so many that we got tired. An older man came along and called the carp Buglemouth Bass, LOL
Thanks for making this video! I actually asked you a while back to make a video on carp fishing. I’ve been wanting to fish for carp for a long time. I’ve been trying to learn from RUclips how to fish for them, but no video I’ve found explains things very well. You have an ability to clearly explain the important subtleties of the tactics and gear. I finally understand how the method feeders work! And details like how you need to be careful about pulling the hook out of their mouths. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are awesome!
Another great carp video from The Machine. Thank you for adding in the clips teaching us your packed bait and your techniques. Keep the carp content coming! You caught some good ones, and you make me want to go catch my own!!
When I was kid in sixties we caught them in the rouge river in Detroit, we just put corn ( several kernels) on a hook with a couple big split shots. Many times we’d soak corn 🌽 n kool aid or jello flavored with fruit best was cherry and grape. Had Zebco 33’s with the old stiff 10 or 12 pd. Line caught many big carp on those rigs. Ten pound was a big fish, although I saw bigger caught. First fishes that were regularly released instead of kept, in those days if a fish was legal size we usually kept it.
It is these "common carp" that are the Friday night specialty and special at about every restaurant and tavern up and down the Mississippi & Illinois Rivers! Score it, fry it and put a big old slab between two pieces of bread with tartar sauce or even a nice slice of onion........Good Stuff Maynard!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Hey, Richard. Great job on those Carp. They are a strong fightin fish. Personally, I don't know what else they are good for. Tried eating one once, didn't really care for it, but they are fun to catch. Thanks so much for all the knowledge and tips that you share with us. God bless y'all and stay safe on your travels to these fishing spots.
This really inspired me to go and buy these ingredients and get it done. We had an amazing time on the water last night. We ended up catching 6 carp all over 11 pounds and one that was over 18 lbs.
Never thought about taters in a carp bait before. I’ll have to try that. My typical recipe for a single day is pretty much a 1:1:1:1 ratio. 1 can whole kernel corn 1 can oatmeal 1 can bread crumbs 1 pack of jello mix. Usually strawberry or cherry. But any sweet flavor will work. Also there’s 28 grams to an ounce, so for little to no current, I’ve found 24g to 30g work great.
Knew a couple old gals that would pressure cook carp. They said it was good eatin. The cooking process would make the bones as soft as canned sardines.
He's a great American fisherman, he'll fish anywhere. Anywhere there's water, Lord knows he'll be there. He's just like a gypsy, mighty hard to hold. Great American fisherman, got fishin' in his soul.
My uncle showed me how to make a great carp bait... Take a slice of bread and spread with a generous amount of peanut butter. Sprinkle with oat meal and sugar. Cover with anothet slice of bread like making a sandwich. Drizzel with vanilla flavoring on top and mash all togethet and put into a baggie. Optional on a single hook we used to take a ball point spring over the hook. You only need a nickel to quarter size ball of bait. I have had my pole drugged in the lake many times...
I remember catching the biggest bass in the USA on a jerk bait, but whenever I finally got it to the bank, it was about a 10lb carp that slapped my lure with its tail.
You can take Wheaties cereal fix a double hand full in hands hold it under water where it can't come out of your hand make a dowe ball squeeze out exess. Let sit in sun pinch a plug mash around hook works great. Strawberry jello powder an flour work great to. Caught big red carp an bufallo carp in Ohio river with both. Good luck
Always enjoyed catching carp and i am glad to see others enjoying it too. They do pull like a freight train. Tell us about your mystery fishing partner. The suspense is killing me.
I did alot of carp fishing as a kid. All we ever used was a box of quaker oats. Woulda got scolded for using the good groceries. Still caught alot of carp/catfish with plain ol quaker oats.
I once hooked a carp in the tail with a 2” Rapala, no leader, and just 6 lb. line. Holy moly! It took nearly 30 minutes to bring that fish in so I could unhook him!
I know so many people who have custom made baits for every fish that swims.some good corn that isn't to soft is all you need to catch carp.cornmeal is something that people add vanilla or other stuff to catch carp, they swear by it but don't ever catch many fish.i use just a hook no weight or swivel and twelve lb stren and I learned to leave some slack in the line.carp are fairly smart fish and shy away from a line with extra tackle on it.if I chum it's 4or 5 pieces of corn or better yet some of the water in the can of corn because they don't eat the chum instead of the corn with my hook in it I'm sure you're prepared bait works well but I just use corn.carp fight like big stripers do , definitely not trash fish
What everyone in my area call "trash fish"... a very common grass carp. Without question, some of the most delicious fish I've ever eaten. Very clean flavor and flaky texture. The only reason I don't fish them more often is because of the bones. I have to take a long-winded approach to making fish patties just to remove all of the bones.
Small carp are great for catfish bait. Chunk them up and your golden. Unless they're 1lb or less you could use them whole. Probably hard to land a carp 1lb or less.
Many bodies of water I fish that have carp are stocked with trout and therefore state regulation prohibits the use of corn. Can I just leave it out or is there something you would replace it with? Thanks!
Absolutely! You can use a few pieces of a raw sweet tator. Cut them about the size of a kernel of corn and put them on the hook. Also those small fruity colored marshmallows work good to! They will even float the hook up a little. Hope this helps! God bless
Nice way to feature ifish by posting this fine video and catching big fish! I have eaten carp; they're good fish, but it takes a strong hand to clean 'em! God bless ALL of us! WWG1WGA
Hello Richard I tried searching for Anthony Finland pack bait holders and cannot find anything could you send me the link please happy fishing my friend I love your videos very informative greatly appreciate all the time and effort
That is a mini , better bring heavier line... I have been spooled by 40-60 lb Carp a few times on the Ohio . Chum is the key , throw chum in a spot for 2 days . Then come back with chum on a hook
For the pack bait Walmart or even a dollar store. Now for the method feeder and the fishing supply, I had to order mine from amazon and eBay. I couldn't find any method feeders in my local stores. God bless and thank you for watching!
Yeah man, ain't nuthin like them Carp, love catching them! Cut my teeth on carp, literally, my Daddy taught us carp fishing when I was about 5-6 years old, and he loved catching them. But yeah I use canned sweet potatoes and Wheaties or just just ol' cheap bran flakes will work and that's all you need, work it up until the consistency you want and I don't fool with canned corn or any corn cause channel cats love corn and I don't use on account of that. When I go carp fishing that's all I want to catch, and with that sweet potato bait, I have caught a good flathead, every once in a while, believe it or not, I reckon they get a sweet tooth too, lol! But I use that sweet potato bait as a doughbait or doughball actually, and put it around my hook, as tight as it sticks it'll stay on the hook for a while too, just leave the hook point showing, also if you want, you don't have to but you can add wheat germ to the bait, it's like an added attraction, once you're bait hits the water that wheat germ will float up off your bait, but like I said it's not necessary.
Hey does anyone here know of a catfish santee rig to catch carp if it works. I figure get sweet corn attractant and fake corn to catch carp. I'd keep 1 carp and attempt to fillet 1 to use for catfish bait.
Hi I follow you in RUclips and I would like to see if you could give me the recipe for carp bait please I’m still learning and I love going carp fishing with my fiancé thank you in advance
@richard thank you for a great video and taking the extra time to explain everything so perfectly! Do you or @ifishcatfish have any carp cooking recipes you could share? My family have caught some carp at our home lake, but never keep any because we don't know a good method for cleaning and cooking. Thanks for any help!

lake fayetteville also has a ton!
Same for me except I use chicken liver.
I also catch them on red worms
When it’s the summer doldrums and nothing else will bite the carp bite is unmatched. Pound for pound one of the toughest freshwater fishes.
Catfish will feed on those berries as well.
I always have to see the end its the best part WOOOOO i wish i could yell though this screen!
You can sleep till 10, go fishing in the middle of the day, and still have a great carp fishing day in the summer, when nothing else bites..
Small marshmallows the fruit flavored 1s is what I put on my hook. Works amazing, and it floats up just enough to stay right off the bottom.
This!!! I just learned this not long ago

I don’t think it’s these common carp or grass carp that are good eating. Although some people do eat them. I smoked one once and it wasn’t good.
