What about squall and ice shards? Just a single point. Just to shift the calculus (related rates) a bit. (By squall I guess I actually mean it’s add on. So 2 points)

Would getting a throwing knife like you got with the rogue at Polyphemus increase your damage? And speed up the run? Buying one at the merchants... ?!??
I ask because shopping is often a component in D2 speed runs I’ve watched.

would squall be a go to option for aoe, it's very over powered early game?

To unlock the squall you need to be at level 5, so the early game would be even slower. And at the early stages, the Squall only gives a low percentage to actually deal damage to enemies (45% for 11-29 damage at stage 3). I haven't tried using the squall as main damage source, but it just feels like it would be too slow to be viable. I think using a better staff in Greece and switching into the Ice Shards a bit earlier might be the right way to play the Storm mastery.

@@akeTQ I've never tried speedrunning TQ before, but i was so curious, that i actually tried the Squall strategy. Managed to finish this Typhon run in 2:02:08 with level 19, 124% ms, 9 deaths. It was indeed slow until level 7, i think, from then it was quite an easy ride, but i made many mistakes, lost my path couple of times, missed teleports, stopped numerous amount of times to kill some monsters for leveling up, and so on. Finished Greece at somewhere around 54 mins, thats a lot. Used only 4 or 5 scrolls of the Breaking Wheel throughout acts 1 & 2 and never bothered to check vendors for some good items. For %lightning damage i've had only green throwable with +6% and 1/3 Zeus relic. Didn't reset any skill points. After maxing out Squall i maxed Static charge, then Obscured visibility, then Lightning bolt. Boss fights were easy, just cast Squall and Bolt on cooldown and run around. I guess it is a viable strategy, but need some more thoughts into it for sure.
I did not record my run of course

7:18 aren’t all speed runs aided by drinking lots of potions? In this case both health and mana?

Yes - but if you use your energy faster than you can regenerate it with potions, you run into some problems.
I'll answer your other questions in this reply, too:
'Would getting a throwing knife like you got with the rogue at Polyphemus increase your damage?' - yes it would. It would raise the attack speed and therefore increase the damage.
'What about squall and ice shards? Just a single point. Just to shift the calculus (related rates) a bit. (By squall I guess I actually mean it’s add on. So 2 points)' - Yep. Reduced resistances would be good. This is not an optimised run, there are lots of things you could test with the Storm mastery, which I will have to do at some point - preferably live on twitch.
