NES is my all-time favorite console. I have nintnedo switch and tried playing a roguelike. The roguelike games were good. If i want hard, i just play NES. Full of games hard or if not harder than many roguelike games today. I find even younger generations going for pixel art, roguelike for difficulty, and a name i have a hard time adopting, metroidvania. Look at the popularity of indie games that are retro inspired.
Haha thanks Mark - just personally didn't connect with that game as strong as some other dudes (sometimes these types of lists seems to just follow suite with the norm - nah, we list them as we personally enjoyed them, thanks for watching man! 👍 John
my two favorites of all time are: LIFE FORCE and SUPER C (CONTRA II) I also love: contra, gradius 1+2, super mario bros. 1+2+3, spelunker, ninja gaiden 3, side pocket.
Nice list my guy. I like seeing other top NES games from different people. Good change up very unique. Everyone complaining about your list they hate my top 10, MegaMan 1-6 original Mario bros, super Mario bros. 1-3.😂
Hey man - cheers for checking it out - I'm glad you enjoyed the list! It's always interesting to see different people's perspectives on the top NES games. It's great that you're open to different opinions and appreciate the variety - Mega Man 1-6 and the original Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 1-3 are definitely iconic titles! Cheers! John 😄
Interesting list. Would have a lot of those in my NES top 30, too. Maybe adding games like Battle of Olympus, Maniac Mansion, Snake Rattle n Roll and Bucky O‘Hare…
Also, i Loved Ghosts n Goblins, excite bike( although i wasn't good at it, as my cousin had the game!#) rc pro am, and fifa 98 for playstation and knockout kings for ps1 ,amazing games!!!Paperboy was great too!!!
Hey there - thanks for watching (somehow missed this comment) - yes, I loved those ones & 100% got massive love for Knockout Kings 99' / 00's ... man used to play that with my brother non-stop! 👊
Would agree with most of the games on the list. Bummer that a few of the favorites are not on the list or higher up like Zelda 2, Gradius, Punch Out, Goonies, SMB3.
Soooo many great NES games out there (these just stood out to me, I'm sure yours will look different) I totally get the appeal of Zelda 2 ~ but don't know what it was, I tihnk the change to side-scrolling from top-down must've made it feel to generic vs what was already our there NES-wise (if this makes sese) - the first game was just 10/10! John 👍
Solstice. Everyone sleeps on this amazing, dark, creepy, puzzle game. The music is flawless. Solstice is a breath of amazing above camera angle isometric view. It's like nothing else! Check it out!
I feel like i would have put Zelda much higher on this list, maybe like 12-15th, its a fun game and kicked off one of the greatest franchises, but I just don't feel like its quite THAT good to be #1
Was hoping to see Battle City on the special mentions list but wasnt. Regardless, this is still some of the best set of titles in a list compared to most that are mostly just a bunch of first party titles and very popular ones.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback - yes Battle City was a lot of fun ... such an underrated game actually especially because you could edit your own stages / co-op it ... super cool for the time!
Weird list NES library is deep. Tysons 👊 out definitely in any top 30 imo. No Metrioid? I do like Mega Man 3 in the top 10 it was most memorable and personally couldn't beat that damn game.
Cheers for watching man, a bit of a late reply but I guess it was mostly the nostalgia talking on that one to be honest (I loved playing that game growing up).
@@CyberComGaming I actually recently got the game on famicom. I do like og Goonies. But man.... Goonies II! I'd love another game. Why not Have the Goonies series start competing with Mega Man? We can have Goonies 3 4 5 6. Then Goonies 9... The Fratelli's are INEXPLICABLY BACK!?!
I find these 'personal' lists far more entertaining as they tend to bring up titles that I am not aware of rather than a constant re-hash of the usual suspects.
I don't recall ever seeing a top/best NES list having SMB3 outside of top 3, so at #19 that is quite a bold take. These lists are always tough because even though they are subjective, personal opinions really skew the rankings. It's better to call the list 30 favorite NES games versus saying "best". For example, I don't care for traditional JRPG games, such as the Final Fantasy series, but if I was putting together a "best" SNES list, FF3 (or 6 depending on who you ask) would be a top 10 game listed, even though I played about 3 minutes total of it. It wouldn't make my "favorite" SNES list though. Long story short, you can't call this a "best" NES list and then go and rank arguably the BEST game of the 8 bit era at #19. It is widely regarded as one of the best games ever from any generation, let along the 19th best on its own console. I'm not even that big a fan of the game personally...if it was a "favorites" list it would probably just make my top 10...maybe even slightly outside of it. Best NES though?? it's Top 3 no debate.
Example Top 10 Favorite NES Vs Top 10 Best/Greatest NES: Top 10 Best NES 1. Super Mario Bros 3 2. Legend of Zelda 3. Super Mario Bros 4. Mega Man 2 5. Castlevania 6. Metroid 7. Contra 8. Super Mario Bros 2 9. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out 10. Ninja Gaiden Top 10 Favorite NES: 1. Legend of Zelda 2. Tecmo Super Bowl 3. Contra 4. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out 5. Dragon Warrior 6. Zelda II: Adventures of Link 7. Metroid 8. Ninja Gaiden 9. Super Mario Bros 3 10. Wizards and Warriors

This list is... well, bad. Paperboy several positions ahead of Super Mario 3? Seriously? The game is known to be a terrible port of the arcade original. Shouldn't even be in a top 100. Too many generic Disney and other cartoon based platformers. Many games should easily rank above those. Where are Blaster Master, River City Ransom, Bionic Commando, Star Tropic, Crystalis? Not enough RPGs: Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest 3 should be there at least. Sport games like Baseball Star or Tecmo Bowl missing as well. For racers, RC Pro-Am. Punch out deserve top 20 easily, not honorable mention.
Hey man, appreciate you checking it out - it's these type of comments that makes me want to get back into making more vid's again👍 ... as a fellow gamer I was never going to compile a generic list based on what most of these gaming sites consider to be 'GREAT' ... and what they think need to be included in every list - - it's all subjective and this is important to remember (it's easy to play it safe based on what other peoples' perceptions are but it's those personal connections to some of these games that carried more weight on the end of the day TO ME - I'm sure you're list might have a lot of people disagreeing with you and that's cool, this is what I love about gaming and the different experiences some of these titles bring. I don't disagree with the titles you listed above (indeed heavy hitters - just not games I played much growing up) - HELL YES Paperboy (to me) deserves to be on the list, it was a cool game and hey, might be the nostalgia talking here - - SMB3 (again was a game I didn't really get into much but I get the appeal, I was more vibing with Tiny Toons tbh, which I know took a lot from SMB3 but it offered so much variety man, had a great soundtrack and creative boss-battles that I will fondly remember to this day), same with Chip n' Dales which is still a heavy underrated NES game (if you've actually played it you'll know what I mean here). The main point of this list was to put forward 30 titles I considered to be great, based on my connection with them growing up in South-Africa.✌️
@@CyberComGaming Thanks for the reply. It's good that you try not to be influenced by other lists (if not what's the point to make another?). But still your list is called "Greatest NES games", not "NES games that I'm fond of due to nostalgia". Of course you can't take nostalgia out of the equation completely, especially for a 40 years console that we experienced as kids, but at the time some common sense and thorough knowledge of the library is expected. I played and completed Chip & Dales back in the days by the way. I could've maybe place it at the bottom of the list due to its 2 player coop, unusual for this type of game. But I still won't accept Paperboy though ;-). It's a bad port of an excellent arcade game. With all compilations for modern systems, emulators, mISTER and fllashcarts, there's no excuse to play it on the NES. Try it on PS1 Midway Arcade's Greatest Hits for example, you'll never go back to the NES version, trust me.
It wasn't a terrible list, but it could have done without all the dull cartoon-themed side scrollers. Nearly all of them were rip-offs of better platformers. I'm glad it didn't have the usual dull top NES game's number one reveal of "ZOMG!! ITS SUPER MARIO 3!!!"
Ghost 'n Goblins does not deserve to be here. The bosses have immunities to weapons. That doesn't sound like that big of a deal, until you get to stage 5 with the axe equipped. The only weapon that drops in that stage is the axe, and since it's the boss's immunity, you are soft locked. While there is infinite continues, there is no password system. Meaning you can't turn the game off and try again later unless you want all your progress whipped. The arcade version doesn't have any boss immunities, so this soft lock only exists in the NES version. Also you have to be at the game twice in order to get the good ending. And that not even talking about the BS difficulty that puts Castlevania and Zelda II to shame. The fact that the armor upgrade drops so infrequently it might as well not even exist. The fact that the red devils read your inputs to dodge according. And so on.
Just don't grab the ax since you know it won't work. It's pretty easy to avoid. I remember I could never get past level 2 as a kid and thought it was impossible. Picked it back up as an adult and the more I played I learned that it is indeed beatable. After beating it I couldn't stop replaying it. I've beaten several times without even dying. It's definitely not for everyone. Cheers!

Full of games hard or if not harder than many roguelike games today. I find even younger generations going for pixel art, roguelike for difficulty, and a name i have a hard time adopting, metroidvania. Look at the popularity of indie games that are retro inspired.
Another great list! Currently working through as many as possible! 😊cheers buddy
Thanks for checking it out man and for supporting! 🙏
great list!
Thanks for that & cheers for watching! 🙏
I love how every other list has SMB 3 at number one, and these guys are like, yeah no, number 19.
Awesome!
Haha thanks Mark - just personally didn't connect with that game as strong as some other dudes (sometimes these types of lists seems to just follow suite with the norm - nah, we list them as we personally enjoyed them, thanks for watching man! 👍 John
It's not awesome, it's blasphemy
That's not awesome. This comment is stupid.
The actual best ones: Base Wars, Archon (VS a human), The Black Bass, The Blue Marlin, and Conquest of the Crystal Palace!
Great list! But No Dragon Warrior/Quest?
Double dribble, Kirby, and i agree zelda was the Best and held so much memory
You forgot willow😅
my two favorites of all time are:
LIFE FORCE and SUPER C (CONTRA II)
I also love: contra, gradius 1+2, super mario bros.
Cheers! John 😄
super mario 3 in 19 is just wrong lol
100%
Wow - Super Mario Bros 3 on place 19? That's brave - I really respect that. I still got it as Number One as in my list followed by Mega Man 2.
Respect it? Why?
My favorites were Dragon Warrior, Super Dodgeball, and Gunsmoke
Interesting list. Would have a lot of those in my NES top 30, too. Maybe adding games like Battle of Olympus, Maniac Mansion, Snake Rattle n Roll and Bucky O‘Hare…
Thanks for watching - yea look there's just too many great NES games (def subjective) - man, Maniac Mansion ... I remember playing that one!! John 👍👍
Jackal's my sh*t! That opening sequence to the stage 1 music... omg, pumped!
Such a cool game ... thanks for checking this out! John 👍
Where's Taxans' Low G Man and G.i.Joe
We almost has the same games, tiny toons and chip and dale are my favorites as a kid
What year were you born?
Would agree with most of the games on the list. Bummer that a few of the favorites are not on the list or higher up like Zelda 2, Gradius, Punch Out, Goonies, SMB3.
Soooo many great NES games out there (these just stood out to me, I'm sure yours will look different) I totally get the appeal of Zelda 2 ~ but don't know what it was, I tihnk the change to side-scrolling from top-down must've made it feel to generic vs what was already our there NES-wise (if this makes sese) - the first game was just 10/10! John 👍
Minus extreme difficulty, blaster master was a top 10 nes game. List definitely lacks that title.
Im surprised Punch Out was just an honorable mention...
Metal Gear, Blaster Master, Kid Icarus, too many to choose from. I’d agree Smb3 is top
hey, the names are too quick on the honorable mentions
Thanks for the feedback - will note this down for next time, cheers for watching! John 👍
Solstice. Everyone sleeps on this amazing, dark, creepy, puzzle game. The music is flawless. Solstice is a breath of amazing above camera angle isometric view. It's like nothing else! Check it out!
ah wow... laat jy my nou terug verlang cuzzie... ekt skoon n pergasie ontwikkel. Tiny toons, Flintstones, chip & dales
Good times man - thanks dat jy dit uit ge-check het dude ... oh, en my gehelp het met Tiny Toons haha!! 😊👍🎮
I feel like i would have put Zelda much higher on this list, maybe like 12-15th, its a fun game and kicked off one of the greatest franchises, but I just don't feel like its quite THAT good to be #1
You left out Bionic Commando, RC Pro Am and Metal Gear and Zelda 2.
no blaster master or destiny of an emperor or battle for olympus.
Couldn't touch in with all of em' - but yep .. good times brother!
Solar jetman never makes it on these lists :/
Bro you forget to gems the Punisher and might final fight i remember i send my all free time with these games and TMNT 3 also
I see you man - dude TMNT 3 rocked it out for me!! John 😎

Legend of Zelda is the Goat! Link was also a great game!
Wow Andy Warski has really turned over a new leaf!
🤣🤣🤣
Weird list NES library is deep. Tysons 👊 out definitely in any top 30 imo. No Metrioid? I do like Mega Man 3 in the top 10 it was most memorable and personally couldn't beat that damn game.
Tx for watching I guess ... Metriod is on there mate, cheers! John
Surprised to see The Goonies on the list...#2 is the superior game by any reasonable account.
Whoa you ranked above Paperboy above Super Mario 3???
Oof. I would definitely put Willow and Battle of Olympus in my top 5
Great game indeed!
These lists are so subjective, but this is clearly “this guys favorite” NES games, not the best of all time.
I find these 'personal' lists far more entertaining as they tend to bring up titles that I am not aware of rather than a constant re-hash of the usual suspects.
Are you South-African? I am too!
Battle toads?
Gun Smoke! 🤠
Blades of steel is my go to jelly
Example Top 10 Favorite NES Vs Top 10 Best/Greatest NES:
Top 10 Best NES
1. Super Mario Bros 3
2. Legend of Zelda
3. Super Mario Bros
4. Mega Man 2
5. Castlevania
6. Metroid
7. Contra
8. Super Mario Bros 2
9. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
10. Ninja Gaiden
Top 10 Favorite NES:
1. Legend of Zelda
2. Tecmo Super Bowl
3. Contra
4. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
5. Dragon Warrior
6. Zelda II: Adventures of Link
7. Metroid
8. Ninja Gaiden
9. Super Mario Bros 3
10. Wizards and Warriors
Took this feedback onboard bro - thanks for this, absolutely agree man these lists are ultimately so subjective ... was more a vid to remind / share with peeps a simpler time in gaming ~ these games really solidified me as a gamer - but yea, thanks again - cheers ✌️
@CyberComGaming of course bro and thank you for the content! We are all here because we love retro gaming and you are contributing to that nostalgia for us..thanks!
I want to fight you because you didn't put star tropics in your list
wow chill 😂

Ninja gaiden 2 and 3 is up there
Don't sleep on Little Nemo!
Don't know that one ae!
MTP/PO and DH are top 20 games...
One rpg and only in the special mentions.what a crime
It wasn't a terrible list, but it could have done without all the dull cartoon-themed side scrollers. Nearly all of them were rip-offs of better platformers. I'm glad it didn't have the usual dull top NES game's number one reveal of "ZOMG!! ITS SUPER MARIO 3!!!"
Hey Chuck, thanks for the visit - totally respect your point ... and yep knew this list would catch some off guard, cheers again man! 👍 John
Loz2 is 1 for me.
Thanks for watching man! John 👍
Cheers!
Agreed. Should've picked Bionic Commando from Capcom instead. This isn't a good list.
Hot take.......Super Mario 3 wouldn't make my top 30. I just never loved it the way everyone else did.
The Dark Queen in Battle Toads was Hot ! Haha just kidding
I can see that haha! John
Swap Castlevania 3 and Castlevania 1.
This list sucks Double Dragon 2 Tecmo bowl mega man 5 punch out pac man TMNT 2 Tecmo bowl 2 Tecmo basketball bases loaded 2 RBI galaga RC pro am kid Icarus ring king elevator action Mario Bros. Blades of steel donkey Kong pro wrestling duck hunt
Hey! Thanks for the feedback! But wait, you forgot to include 'Barbie's Dreamhouse Adventure: Pajama Party Edition,' 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Rainbow Dash's Magical Quest,' and 'Hello Kitty's Kitchen Frenzy: Cupcake Chaos' on your top 30 NES games list! How could you miss those timeless classics? ... Just kidding! But hey, to each their own, right? Happy gaming! 👍
RIVERCITY RANSOM!!!
Just beat adventure island, never ever again!
