    Cue in the old Devo song.... "You must whip it, whip it good!"
    Old school used to teach that all the rotation came from the lower body. I guess this idea came from land based sports that use rotational energy, from pitching a baseball where you step into it to golf or a karate punch where you start with feet spread apart. The concept is to put maximum energy into your hands/arms in pushing some thing away from your core. With swimming, it is the opposite where the idea is to pull, not throw. There is nothing to anchor your lower body to for generating rotation from the feet to the upper body. With any swimmer who has their kick properly linked to their arm pull, the pulling arm gets to about 45 degrees, and then the down kick happens on that same side. You do this already.
    As for ankle flexibility, I have very little. If I try to keep my ankles relaxed, I end up with what I call runner's foot. This is my ankles are flexed to about 30 or so degrees rather than the 90 degree kick you show here. I HAVE to make an effort to point my toes to get rid of my runner's foot syndrome. Also going pigeon toed is a huge benefit for dolphin and flutter kicks. It gives us stiff ankle people another 10 to 20 degrees of toe point, and you end up using the entire side of your foot for propulsion rather than a straight gymnastic toe point which is just not efficient. As for fins, and I have said this before, the standard frog feet do not work well because we do not have flat feet like frogs or ducks (I am an Oregon Duck!). Get a pair of the Finis Positive Drive fins to see what I am talking about. Far superior to frog feet. With the mid length fins you show, most in the pool that use them, and this includes swim team, they start the down/front side kick in runner's foot position rather than with good toe point. Think of kicking a soccer ball with the top side of your foot. Not toe. Not instep which would be breast stroke. The top side of your foot. This would put a tiny bit of spin on the ball. Just a short kick, not a length of the field kick...
    The exercises you show for stretching your ankles work if you already have flexible ankles. I do not. When eating any meal at my kitchen table, I tuck my feet in under the chair which does stretch them out. I can not sit on my heels, and don't remember when I could. I was a fullback in American football and have tree trunk legs... Ankle circles are good.

      Really, try the positive drive fins! Huge difference. I do think all fins should have holes around the toes to get the feel of the water moving through your toes for getting both up and down feedback.

      For a fun experiment, Next time you are out in the yard and have your hose running, sit with your feet out in front of you, toes pointed straight, and no nozzle on the hose. Spray the water on your feet at about a 45 degree angle with toes pointed out straight in front like gymnastics toe point. Then turn your toes in, 30 to 45 degrees max, and watch what happens to your toe point and spray the water on your feet the same as you did with the straight toe point. Huge difference...

    In solution to the first mistake, the Whip action like bubbling , while lying in water seeing towards sky would be of a much help to me in kicking from the hips. I was struggling doing this while swimming front Crawl ; but now while swimming I will try it to overcome my weakness 💪 as you taught to. Thank you soooooo much for the very useful video tutorial. Lord Swaminarayan bless you and your team 🙏 👍 👌 so much.

    Any Ideas on how to Fix KIDS that Cross their feet when they kick 2 beat? They drill fine, kick w board fine, but as soon as their brains check out, they revert to horrible Leg Cross. Thanks

    • @siskatrainingsystems
      @siskatrainingsystems  Месяц назад

      Yes this can be a frustrating one with the kids .. it's been my experience that constantly reminding them to extend their whole bodies (from head to toe)when they swim has helped them to cross kick less...it's a whole body position issue not just a kick issue ...also do you find that when they swim faster or race they do it less?
