  • Watch how to install the Rattlebyte Multi-region chip into a Panasonic UB820 4k Blu-ray Player to enable all regions of blu-ray and DVD discs to be played. I couldn't find any clear videos on exactly what's involved for the UB820 so I hope this helps anyone that's looking for information or just some reassurance on the process!
    I'm very satisfied with the end result and get to watch all of my multi-region collection.
    I bought my Rattlebyte chip directly from their website:
    www.rattlebyte...
    Panasonic UB9000 clone remote control I bought:
    amzn.to/3wjrjOX
    Panasonic UB820 4k Blu-ray Player:
    amzn.to/4blrzvJ
    If you're not comfortable with soldering, take a look at some modified players instead, which I've linked below:
    Region Free Sony BDP-S3500
    amzn.to/3y3MPry
    Region Free Panasonic UB820
    amzn.to/4blrzvJ
    If you click the Amazon.com affiliate links, it'll take you straight to the items and really help out my channel! It won't cost you anything. Appreciate it!

    Could have been far better .. You spent more time picking the out of focus shots + loud music than showing the important info on the disassembly and chip fitment

    This is very well put together video and as far as I can tell the only one online relating to this mod, however, I really wish more time had been taken to show the disassemble of the unit (tricky getting the cover off) and the full modding process in more detail instead of quick sharp cuts. Hopefully I can find more detailed information elsewhere as the instructions that come with it are pretty barebones as well.
    Edit: finally got the cover off without breaking it which I thought I was going to and after looking in more detail at your video and pausing it at certain shots I was confused about which wires on the open ended cable harness as they didn't seem to match with the lettering on the mod itself. I went on the rattlebyte website and clicked on the cable harness page and was able to see which wires specifically were correct - that's something that should be in the instructions really. Anyway, I'm not good at soldering but it's only 6 points and after a little trial and error everything seemed connected OK. The firmware updated and it's working so I guess as long as I don't touch it everything will be fine!

      You might as well make a video showing which wires have been soldering...with more detailed information. I'd like to try but am afraid of making some mistake.

      Please make a video I have no idea where to start and refuse to pay over £100 for the honour of popping 6 wires on a piece of metal 🫶🏻 although I would be willing to pay someone to show me for like a tenner haha

    I feel like you missed highlighting one of the most important features, and I would have liked to see a review of using it.
    The ability to load Subtitles from USB to use with a Blu-ray, so that you can play foreign movies and add English subtitles even if they're not included on the disc. My player does work with the "Magic button combo" so, the ability to load external subs really is the only thing I'd buy this for.

    During the 2000's, I first started collecting DVD's that are multi region. Later in the 2010's, I started collecting muli region Blu-rays along with a multi region Blu-ray player. Later in the late 2010's, I got into 4K which later got me buying an LG UBK-90 4K player that's multi region.

    Great video! Am I correct in assuming that the rattlebytes harness-B set won’t work with the 820 because there’s no harness near the soldering points to plug into? That is, we only have the option to solder….? Thanks!

    Red (3.3V), Green (B), Blue (A), Black (GND), Orange (C), Brown (D) if you have the same cable harness. You can cut/isolate the rest of the wires, so that not to touch each other or other parts of the player.

    At 2:31, that little green board/chip with the qr code, is that the wifi chip? In between the steel/metal sheet? The one where it gets a close up at 2:34 on the upper left, where it has a wire coming out of it.

    I'm confused as the official listing for this player states Plays Blu-ray Discs Zones A B & C
    Plays DVDs from regions 1-8

    • @robotanv
      @robotanv  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching the video! As far as I'm aware, an unmodified UB850 can only play region-locked 1080p blurays and DVDs for the region in which it is sold. 4k blurays generally aren't region locked so can play anywhere. If the listing you're looking at says otherwise, it has likely been modified which isn't necessarily a problem but you won't have a warranty from Panasonic.

    The fact that regioblockations still exist is shocking, EU and other big countries or unions should finally ban it, that's the only solution, they will never stop with that if we don't force them.
    A lot of shows were never in my country, for example Walking Dead on blu-ray is mostly import in English only, how can I know what region it is? I am not sherlock holmes.

      If you look on the back of the case that the disk comes in, you should see a "A," "B," or "C" near where the Audio / Video info is written. (i.e. ATMOS, DTS, Dolby Vision, etc.) Sometimes these letters are printed on the disk themselves. 4K Movies are world-wide; it's only the Blu-Ray Media that's region locked. DVD Media was region locked, but was easily hackable and wasn't really enforced.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin 4 месяца назад

      @@beeaech1799 DVD movies were easy to rip or burn again without lock, but blu-rays are that crazy protected, that you can't even play it on PC even when you have blu-ray drive, it's ridiculous. Fortunately, it looks like 4K discs are really region free and it doesn't even bother me with all those unskippable nonsenses, so at least some good news.
