- Here it is.. Cro Cop Story, an awesome personal look into the life of Mirko Filipović, one of the most infamous K-1/Pride fighters of all time. This special was featured in Croatia on local television sometime in the early 2000's. It was ripped and released online with English subtitles. A few years ago, I went through the translation and edited/fixed many of the subtitles which had structuring issues, timing issues, etc. It isn't perfect, but it's a step above the prior release. Finally got around to uploading my re-edit, so here it is. Enjoy! WARRRRRR!
Mirko Filipović (Croatian pronunciation: [mîrko fǐːlipɔːʋitɕ]; born September 10, 1974) is a Croatian heavyweight mixed martial artist, retired kickboxer, boxer, politician, and law enforcement officer. ilipović is the former 2006 Pride World Grand Prix Open-Weight Champion and the former K-1 World Grand Prix Champion becoming the second fighter in the world to win both an MMA championship and K-1 World Grand Prix Championship, and he is also a former IGF Heavyweight Champion. His nickname, Cro Cop, short for "Croatian Cop", comes from his membership in the Lučko Anti-Terrorist Unit, Croatia's elite Police Special Forces tactical unit. Filipović owed his mixed martial arts success to a combination of elite-level kickboxing and near-impregnable takedown defense, making him one of the most dangerous strikers in history and a prototype for the modern sprawl and brawler. Filipović's signature move was his lightning quick left head-kick, once famously described as "right leg, hospital; left leg, cemetery."[2] Filipović was also a successful amateur boxer. Mirko medalled numerous times in international competition, and was also a member of Croatia's world team when he competed at the 1997 Amateur Boxing World Championships. In his prime he was considered one of the best mixed martial artists, along with Fedor Emelianenko and Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Lmao, UFC is nothing more than just show business? You realize Pride was the promotion that made all those freak show fights simply for ratings, right?
Not saying Pride wasn't awesome and wasn't real fighting, but a lot of circus-like shit went down over there with some of the match-ups they made.
I love Pride too but UFC is still great. I'm guessing you're just basing it off of Conor McGregor and all that - but all the trash talking aside, he's a damn good fighter and one of the most fun guys to watch based on his fighting style.
UFC has made some crazy freak show fights too like CM Punk/Mickey Gall and Couture/Toney, and of course the early UFC days (before Dana and the Fertittas made it legit), but nothing like what Pride did all the way until the end with the circus fights and fixed fights.
I wish Pride was still around because it was so entertaining but hey, at least now we have Rizin on the way up. Hopefully Rizin can get some more real top talent out there and become a major player in the MMA world just like Pride when it owned the sport pretty much.
Do you know anything about MMA or Nogueira? Nogueira was past his prime when he came to the UFC - it happens to the best of them and Nogueira was in a lot of wars. Getting murdered by Fedor is nothing to scoff at - anybody else would have been knocked out. Nogueira deserves respect for being one of the toughest fighters of all time. When he was a kid (10 years old, I think), he got hit by a truck and was in a coma. The doctors said he would never wake up from it. He came out of the coma after a week. The doctors said he would never walk again because his spine and body had been crushed. He went on to become one of the best heavyweights of all time. Show some respect to a real legend.

It's interesting how Chroatian language sounds to Russian ear. A lot of words sound very familiar and sometimes even some phrases. The numbers are almost all the same. But I can't understand the language as a whole. We definitely were from the same tribe centuries ago

I am Croatian Canadian. Mirko talks so fast it is unbelievable. I have to listen AND read the sub titles at the same time!
i live 30 min away from mirko and i had to read the subtitles as well, lol
he talkes very fast and sometimes i have to read but understand most. my family is from split so the biggest issue for me is the dialect because it is a big difference in the dialects from inside the country and by the sea (i live in sweden).

it's crazy how fast mirko talks. my family is from dalmacija (on the coast in croatia) but i live in sweden. mirko speaks 2x faster at least than we do in dalmacija. kind of hard to understand him sometimes haha, but awesome dude.

Ono sto najvise pleni kod Mirka su njegova humanost i skromnost. U svojoj iskrenosti i nevinosti duha, trazio je svoje granice, skoncentrisan uvek na to sta je moguce uraditi, i kako pomoci samom sebi da se psihicka i fizicka ogranicenja pomere u napred. Dakle jedan disciplinovani covek koji nista ne ocekuje od drugih. Zene ga plase, jer bude u njemu slabost (prema zadovoljstvu) jer je to kapriciozna sreca koja ne zavisi samo od njega, vec dobrim delom od zenske cudi. Njegov zivot ima smisla samo kad je sve jasno i predvidljivo, planirano i ostvareno,

On nikad nije bio nikakav vojnik nego ga je Cikatic zaposlio u specijalnoj policiji da ima bilo kakav posao jer je Cikatic bio trener specijalcima. Medutim, ljigav i lazov kakav je Filipovic naravno da ga nisu prihvatili i vrlo brzo je otisao iz policije.
