Great vid. Anyway, from my experience, you will attain better focus if you use an extension tube on the T-ring adapter. Also, The disadvantage of an Alt-Az mount is that you can have an exposure time of less than 15 seconds to avoid field rotation and for the photos to be tact sharp. There is a workaround however but you will need to buy the wedge to be able to expose more than 15 seconds
Hi I recently bought a device that connects to the telescope, eyepiece fits inside it then your camera connects to the device it gives you the close ups ,me personally I think its really good quality, not expensive I'm only a novice tho, it's called Neewer camera adapter and extension tube check it out, love your videos I'm looking to buy the nextstar 8se soon
Great informative video, one thing I would love to do is hook up my DSLR to the eye piece. Do you know if this is possible at all ? Or at minimum hook it up to the two times Barlow
I have a NexStar 8SE and used your info in this video to connect my Nikon to it. Everything worked great! Question: if I connect a Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer to the telescope, then connect the T adapter to that, will I still be able to get things to focus properly?
I just found your interesting video and will follow you through the processes. I have been interested in this aspect of the hobby and now I am retired I have more time to devote it. I found your style easy to follow and look forward to more episodes. C4se and Nikon D6500. Regards from NZ.
My fiance and I bought her daughter nice DSLR for her birthday. For her telescope but now that we got the Celestron 8se it's time for her to bring her camera LOL
hello I have the starsense camera on the nexstar 8se with the wifi module I bought a substantial diagonal which will lock on the mount if the alignment procedure takes the telescope to the zenith How high does the starsense camera raise the ota? thank you paul
What DSLR do you have? I was thinking of not going to expensive like a Canon - EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Video Camera with 18-55mm Lens. Will the adapters you said work for that camera? I was going to get the 6SE during holiday season when stuff goes on sale.
Hi, great video! :-) When using the DSLR, what is the actual magnification of the image, since we do not have the ocular to calculate? Regarding the adapter, actually they are two adapters, one from Celestron, and the other from the camera manufacturer. Do we need to buy them together (like in your link to B&H) to have a perfect fit between them? Or this is some standard? I plan to use my old D5000 Nikon. Tks!
Hi Mike, love the videos. Thank you. I have a Canon T3 (not i version). When I attach my camera to the telescope, it will only show the image in full auto? When I put the camera on manual, I just get a white screen. Any ideas?
I am exactly at this point with my telescope education. I have not thought about just taking single frames but I will now. It seems like a good way to tune your camera settings before taking 100's of photos. I assume that you are using the GOTO of the celestron to keep Orion in the frame? Also, what bortle are you viewing from?
I have the part that attaches to my Canon but what is the part that screws into the telescope. What I have looks like a 1.25" tube that slides the telescope replacing the eyepiece. (Hard to describe!!). I believe what I have a "Nosepiece - T-Thread" that screws into the T-Ring. Does this then get slide into the eyepiece diagonal on the telescope???? Thanks!!
Camera settings are basically default except for running 800 or 1600 for ISO. Then it's just finding the longest exposure you can get without star trail. 🙂
@The Astro Explorers Thanks for the reply. I am just starting to use my DSLR and have ordered the Celestron 2" telescope mount. I already had some other DSLR adaptors but still need help setting up. Previously I did not have the 2" adaptor, just the 1.25 which you can put the eyepiece in and the connect to your camera T ring adaptor. Had no luck with that but I suspect it's my lack of knowledge as opposed to the equipment being used.
As I was installing new double aa batteries into my etx125 Telescope, the cr2032 3v battery stored in the upper right hand corner of the compartment, became loose, and fell into one of the open slits. It now rattles in the base of the base. How can I repair this? If I can't will it affect the overall function of the telescope?
Is there a reason why you attach the camera direct to the telescope vs just removing the eyepiece and dropping the camera in to the diagonal via the T adaptor?
Attaching it with the T adapter instead of dropping it in with a nose cone gives it more stability. With the weight of the camera, just using the side screws can cause the camera to slip, and fall out.
@The Astro Explorers what magnification do you get if you just plug straight into the back like this? I.e. with the eyepieces, you can adjust the magnification?? Ta.
I could be wrong but I believe I read there was less chance of distortion with the use of as less mirrors and lens.. for example the diagonal you've mentioned..
The only time I've had issues with back focus with the DSLR is when you imaging train gets long with extra like off axis guide and filter holders and the like. But with just the t ring and adapter it works fine.
Unfortunately you cannot polar align with this mount. It is an Alt Azimuth mount, and not an equatorial mount. But yes, the 3 star alignment wasn't the best, and working off the deck isn't the best.
Sorry I didn’t enjoy this video , took ages just to see you connect camera to telescope which is v easy takes 5 secs, what I was hoping for is you showing us the exact settings you used on the camera, shutter speed, aperture, iso settings and how you focussed ….
I like the way you do not assume any prior knowledge which is very good for beginners, keep up the good work.
I liked this guy about how honest he is and not trying to sell anything, already subscribed him

OK....that just answered my question about the blurry stars! Thought he'd be on an eq. mount. Thanks @Dylon

You should be able to get focus. It works fine with my Canon t3i using the reducer.
Clear Skys!
Craig: Why would you use a focal reducer?
@@bradmiller3557 I'd assume for wider field of view shots or to gather more light with shorter exposure times.

This is really cool

Can this be done with a full frame camera?
Hi, thanks for the guide video. Can I ask if the T Ring is a standard fit for all brands of camera?
So the T Ring will be camera brand dependent. You'll want to get the one that matches your camera brand.
Do I have to focus the telescope with the eyepiece before mounting the camera?

Sorry, I wish I knew what might be causing that.
How is the clearance space for the camera when the scope is in the upright position

Hi there! Yes find single frames is important. It's great for framing and dialing in your camera. :)
As for Bortle, I'm in an 8 or 9.
Do you need a field flattener in there somehow?

Came to the comments to say exactly the same. Did you work out what to do? Hoping to have a go tonight, am slightly confused now though.
Can you please tell me all the manual settings on the camera. Thanks.. 👍🏾

I missed how you focus, and how you trigger the shutter.
Wouldn't it be easier to attach the camera last?
When attaching the camera, I find a problem to move the telescope straight up ( zenith). Is there any way to overcome this problem ?
Thanks !
Does the Celestron 4se adapter work with the 6se?Celestron doesn’t seem to make one for the 6se..
They make one that works on both the 6 and 8se

If I have the Nikon P1000 do I have to have their adapter I noticed yours says a cannon adapter ?
Don’t know if you’re still looking for an answer but you do need a Nikon specific t ring adapter for a Nikon camera
Nice.
Thanks!
Can you attach a reducer with your DSLR Canon camera ?
Can you show how to focus ?.Is that the normal way we focus when we wea are with eyepiece ?
Focusing is exactly the same as with the eyepiece. But you'll want to do live view to get it close. And then do single frames to dial it in.
촛점 맞추는 것이 중요
Can any digital camera work on this scope?
If they sale a t ring and adapter for the camera, then it should work.
i have Celestron 800 will it be the same?
I can't say for sure, but I imagine the threading should be the same. But you could ask in stary nights forum to be sure.
I'm surprised you could reach focus attached directly. I keep reading about back focus issues with DSLRs
The only time I've had issues with back focus with the DSLR is when you imaging train gets long with extra like off axis guide and filter holders and the like. But with just the t ring and adapter it works fine.
you need to polar align first, because you have trails in just 20 seconds. so..back to the basics 😎
Unfortunately you cannot polar align with this mount. It is an Alt Azimuth mount, and not an equatorial mount.
But yes, the 3 star alignment wasn't the best, and working off the deck isn't the best.

Do not store your lenses in a zip lock bag!! What kind of Motrin would tell you to do that?
