- This is a video about how to prepare your timber ready for a laminated neck. It also includes some theory on how to orientate the grain and some machining techniques. First video in my new workshop.

isn't a laminated neck stiffer and less likely to resonate
In my humble opinion you are right and this is exactly what we want! The top and back are the main sound/tone producers for the guitar. Any vibrations in the neck are detracting from the sound of the guitar, a floppy neck will soak up energy that could be transferred straight into the top. The mission of a luthier is efficient transfer of energy from kinetic energy of the hand to sound energy projected out the guitar, every bit of energy lost is detrimental to tone, volume, projection or responsiveness. So if the neck is a stiff solid anchor it allows as much energy as possible to be transmitted through the soundboard as sound energy. Just my opinion and understanding of the matter. Do you see it differently? I would be interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks Ash
