Man...brotha...you coined this phrase "Dark Passenger" spot on. This isnt the same thing as a "devil on your shoulder and an angel on the other." Everyone has that good and evil about them but the Dark Passenger is a whole different animal and you wont be able to fully relate to this unless you have this trait.
I have this trait, unfortunately. Like you, it comes out when I'm cornered or drunk sometimes. It's right below the surface, always!! This is why it's so important that if you have this Dark Passenger that you do everything positive to keep it in check. Like you said keeping that high vibrational state of mind and physical wellness is key. I have destroyed so much with my Dark Passenger at the wheel of my life. It has been the "go to" state of mind when I am pissed off and served me well in combat. The problem is that the more you let this Dark Passenger keep driving the bus you cant retake the wheel so easily again when your ready and the path of destruction you leave in the wake of that apocalypse can be the worst possible outcome for yourself and especially the targets of that destruction.
Do what you can to mitigate this Dark Passenger. Exercise, stay fit physically and mentally, read and educate yourself on the art of self reflection and meditation, remove yourself from echo chambers or environments that bring out this Dark Passenger, as Tim says keep that high vibrational state. All of these will help you keep this darkness in check. I wish all of you a peaceful and healthy day, week, month and year. Remember, your in charge. Be of good courage and honor.
    Mako06 - Out Here.

    Amen Brother.
The struggle within has always been the most difficult battle for me.
I fully agree, it has to be hereditary (my Father had it too) & I fully lose control when he emerges.
Seeing Red is no joke and dangerous AF.
It's also been somewhat addictive for me, when Id comes out it can be like an out of body experience. Watching myself from the 3rd person.
I purpose in my heart not to lose composure and break character. It's not in my character to behave according to Id, he is absolutely evil.
Trauma only exacerbates Id and makes him feel justified however hurting others because we've been hurt (other than in Combat) has never turned out good for me.
I call him (Id) the anit-conscience. He is evil AF, purely selfish and a MF.
God Bless Brother & keep up the Good Work.
it's great to hear from like minded people as iron sharpens iron.

I’m a Marine born & raised in San Diego. I only mention it cause we grew up in similar surroundings. 100% on everything! Something I realized recently, is I self sabotage a lot myself to cause some excitement in my life when things are going too good. It’s almost as if I get a high from constantly having to start over in a toxic loop. But just like you mentioned in a previous video that I stand by 100% too! If I behave bad I go all the way and if I do good I go all the way I don’t like to half ass my character as a man. This game of life is a marathon for all of us but sometimes we think it’s a race when we compare ourselves to others

This resonated on another level brother. I’ve had the “dark passenger” ruin relationships and get me into trouble when, like you said, drinking too much. As I said in one of your videos before, I think it’s something that can be both genetic and engrained by our environment. For instance, in combat arms (I was Army infantry for 6 years) that behavior is applauded and encouraged because you’re taught to be ruthless and meet force with greater force because combat is unforgiving. However, life out here or in personal relationships it just burns bridges. It’s why I avoid conflict now. Even if someone comes off slightly rude to me, I tend to just leave it alone or avoid addressing it because I know just how mean I can be, and that does nothing for me unless I’m in a fight or flight scenario. Of course, those scenarios are extremely rare. This also reminds me of Jordan Peterson when he says “learn to be a monster and then control it.” Great advice as always. Your talks always remind me to stay on the right track to keep improving. Slowly but surely I’m getting better. Keep up the good work brother.

Right on, Taylor. Thank you for your bravery and for sharing such a personal issue. I believe that due to Universal Law # 3: The Law of Polarity, both good and evil reside in all of us. Each and every one of us is capable of pure good and pure evil. We can all be either a Hero or a Villain. So which one will emerge? It all depends on which one, the Hero or the Villain within us, we constantly feed and encourage. Once again, thank you for being Real, and for leading by Example!!!

Appreciate the candor. We have to learn about ourselves and understand how our brains and bodies work. Theres no excuse not to. Its part of taking responsibility for our lives. If you need to not drink, stop drinking. If you need a strict routine, put one in place. This all starts with being honest with ourselves rather than saying f it.

Now remembering what Lakota Sioux War Chief (sworn to battle all the abuses) told me during a senior lunch over the mountain. He said our dark passenger AKA 'cola', allowed us to recognize it in others. I know one when I see one. He said in their culture, they were to find a small stone, any stone, that would represent this dark passenger. They wrapped it in leather and wear it around their neck so as to carry it with them as reminder. It's placed in a position of sentinel to protect and guard our families/loved ones. The cola stone was removed when entering sweat/circle of trusted ones saying 'Ho cola'. In this way our dark passenger is given a place/job of honor to protect and guard; always removed/not needed among trusted ones.

I know exactly what you mean, man. When I have multiple breaches of personal accountability, when I allow myself to cross lines verbally, when I accept abuse without dealing with the situation immediately; it starts to come out and I know exactly where it goes with the screaming and crying and cops and chaos. The ONLY way I've found to keep that shit under control is like you said; mindfulness, checking in with yourself, keeping yourself on the path. I'm almost 7 years clean and sober but the behaviors, the emotions; they're still buried deep down.

Bro, in less than 10 minutes you managed to bring up for me about 100+ memories throughout my entire life. Where I had acted in a way that looking back on those memories it’s like I don’t even recognize the individual I was during those memories, and how could I allow myself to act like that in towards those who loved me the most, and around those who loved me dearly too…. And I’m glad you brought those memories out but also gave that person in those moments the designation of “THE DARK PASSENGER.” I have often considered myself to have won the lottery on the most AWESOME STEPMOM ever! Yet, I have victimized her with my dark passenger (not in any physical form). However, she is such a wonderful person that whenever I go to my dad’s and try to bring up how I will always be in her debt or try to apologize in any way shape or form she just dismisses it with kindness, love, and affection…. It’s like it’s no big deal to her or my dad, and I’ve never realized how they could get over such things that I’ve done in the past in such manner that they acts like it never happened and now I know why… It’s because the 2 of them do not have a dark passenger like I do, and I now also know who I inherited from too thanks to you which allows me to keep an eye out on the two of us and keep ourselves from allowing that dark passenger from coming out… So, I thank you for this post from the bottom of my heart, brother!

TCAV brother, think about it: you are a highly trained warrior. You have seen evil, seen extreme violence. You have held savage weapons, locked, loaded an ready to unleash hell. You were taught 101 ways to inflict maximum damage. And yet, you have full control of that war beast inside of you. You hurt yourself and others, but you never loss control of that weapon inside of your soul. That is true virtue. That is true strength. Be proud of yourself and be your best friend. I often tried to overcome it throughout my youth, and every time I thought I had mastered it, I learned that I could better learn to live with it and try to convert it into something positive, for example the aggressive in the physical and perseverance. and perseverance, through the years of mistakes that will always return, I have that part reasonably well under control, but the verbal and mind games that still surface is a struggle, especially with how the world has become, many triggers but that elevates reasoning above others and persevering through very difficult moments

Knowing yourself including "controlled agression" for some is a quality that needs to be identified and controlled/dealt with. For others - need to work on it. Good information as always TCAV. ♠️🎩🎯🎱🇺🇲🏁🇮🇱🇺🇦🔱🌻🌸🌼🏵️💮🏴‍☠️🏹

Keep it going brother. Get to Cam Hanes and get on his show. It will be a challenge because the guy can run. It will change the trajectory of your career. Love your channel. By the way, I just watched the new Road House and it is exactly your story.

“I don’t want to wake it up, I don’t want to wake it up….the devil in me.
Gotta wake up, gotta wake up & come back to life”
Sometimes angels have to do the devils work & I personally am blessed, sometimes to find a vent…that hellfire is vented in art, work, poetry & after years & years….balance. The Ying to the Yang. A battery has a positive & a negative…use that energy to help those that need it more….when you think you have it bad…that’s nothing compared to the atrocities that one is going through right now. Stay blessed & remain vigilant.
    Thank you for sharing.

I’m not doing that anymore …. Let the story unravel, and create a new one, better one, beautiful one🎉 thank you for your “ wisdom sharing” that’s what my Shaman, or “ Medicine Man “ calls it anyway….. almost 4 mos

I have that guy on my back. He comes out when somebody rings the bell. He has gotten me out of some crazy situations but, he must be suppressed in normal situations. He is always lurking, one slip up and he and I are running with the devil. Great topic Brother. Semper Fi my fellow Warrior. GBY Taylor.

That dark passenger will pop up no matter what you do, especially in todays world. Its what you do WHEN it pops up that matters. How to keep the bad thoughts to a minimum until they go away. Remember, everything is temporary.

Man...I've had the dark passenger since I was a kid! I've dealt with explosive anger issues my whole life and it wasn't until I got off drugs and quit drinking till I got some control of it but it's still there!

We all have that dark passenger, it is our control over it that defines us. Unfortunately, he has gone out for walks on occasion but I club him back into submission. Self-discipline, is all that separates us from the criminals. Keep em coming!

Dexter from the TV series talked about his 'dark passenger' - he was a serial killer (only of bad dudes). Good v Evil; it's in us all.
