Thank you so much for this video. It brought back memories of several years ago when my daughter and I visited the same place and witnessed Sherry and others banding hummers. The hummer I sponsored has not passed there the area again. I’m hoping she’s ok these passed few years . Looking forward to more of Sherry and Tom’s future videos through you. Thanks again💝. Nancy
This was an AMAZING look at hummingbird banding and how thorough they are at collecting information for each bird. Valuable insight into the hummers and their health and lives. I can’t wait to see what you and Shari have planned next! Thank you so much, I really enjoyed this video.
Brilliant bird handling! very informative of the how of catching and data collection. I love the offering of a drink of nectar after the handling and beFore the release. 💖
Loved seeing the banding process! Such a delicate little birdie, and a real trooper:) Seeing her drink up that nectar at the end was too cute for words!
The entire process of banding is so much more. It is the collection of important data that is used to better understand these tiny creatures. Sheri is obviously an expert and after all this time can go through the necessary data collecting quickly so that the hummingbird is as little traumatized as possible. Can hardly wait to see future videos that Sheri and Hummingbird Spot collaborate on.
Thank you Carole, what an informative video. I have always wanted to watch a hummingbird get banded. Sheri is just so calm about the process. What a wonderful place to watch banding at. Did you get to help band one? Carole, I love how they were trying to turn you into a regular birder!! Fantastic that Sheri is going to collaborate on Hummingbird Spot videos.
I was so lucky to be able to participate in a hummingbird banding many years ago now. Watching this I can say I like the 'trap' although it seems a bit small as compared to the one my friend used. I wish my mind's eye was working better because I know she put a tiny poncho-like thingy on them. She also showed how the bands are filed and made smooth so as not cut their tiny legs. It was quite an experience.
Out of curiosity why are they being banded? Research I assume, but specifically what type? What is being monitored? I’m just curious about the reasons and research being done. :)
Poor bird, maybe it doesn’t stress them, but it must be frightening. I know it is needed to help track and care for birds, just hate to see them scared. Life is tough enough. I’m glad they fed her before they released her. Thank you for the vlog.
@Wayne W there’s this new thing called the internet, and also computers that we can store and track data with. That’s why we do it now. Learning more information about these species helps us track global warming data as well. 🤦🏼♀️ just think about it, it makes sense.
@Wayne W it’s easier for us “normal” folk to learn more about birds, and their impact on their local ecosystems. I don’t think that the idea of people having more access to knowledge is a bad thing.
Are they teaching others to band? Am wondering whether or not a person could go into the high schools and colleges and run clinics that would then finish in the fields. Sort of like apprentice type?
Love it !
Great vid!
What a wonderful day! I wish I was there

Love the way you handled the hummingbird, and that she was comfortable to drink after you examined her,
Enjoyed Thank You 👍
I still get blown away by how tiny these birds are. ❤️
Fascinating!
Super interesting. I never had the opportunity to see this process. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻😘

I didn’t know the hummingbirds are so small! Thanks for sharing this!
So cool.
Very interesting seeing the banding process and it was so cute when she was offered a drink at the end.
Thanks for bringing us along. Very cool

Fascinating and excellent partnership news!
This is amazing, Carole! So excited with your collaboration with Sheri L. Williams and SABO!!

No I did not get to help. You have to be certified and licensed to do it.
@@HummingbirdSpot Glad you got to watch then.

What you saw was not the trap, but a carrier to bring the bird to Sheri from the trap. We did not show the actual trap.
wow. that would be awesome to go to school for that and to know the techniques like that .
So cool that you got to band these cuties! I have one of those monocular telescopes! They work great. Thanks for this video Carole.🙂
thanks for sharing.
The Lady is so delicate the way she handles the lovely
Hummingbird.
She makes clamping that band on look easy, too cool!
Carole, At 1:17 - what camera setup is that you're using??
Sorry Big Jim, I just saw your question. This was all taken with a DJI Pocket 2 camera.
I've always wanted to touch one but I'd be terrified I'd hurt the little thing. I'll stick to my zoom lens and C&H. Fascinating stuff though. cheers
Wow 🤩😇

If some of them are having seizures, should the practice continue?
Rare, though. And not the hummingbirds.

@Wayne W well, you weren’t acting like you knew what they were used for. 🤣

I have California quail in the pasture behind my house. Love their call. Sounds like they're saying 'whipporwill'.
Boa tarde que Deus abençoe vocês 👏✨✨😆🕊️
I totally get they're doing this for the benefit of their species, amd even though she tries to assure us, its still sooo stressing to watch.

Banding is federally regulated and there is a long certification process.
