      Hi to both of you. Two months ago I broke also my ankle and had a surgery, not during kiting but trail running. I red that both of you plan or already had a second surgery to remove titanium blades and screws. My surgeon, told me that if I don't any pain , it is not necessary to remove them. It is very early for me, I am still learning to walk again, but can I ask you, did your remove the materials or plan to remove them, because they cause pain to you? Or there are any other reasons? Thanks in advance

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  11 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry to hear about your ankle break! I hope your recovery goes smoothly.
      My surgeon said the same thing to me - he would leave in the hardware if there’s no problems. He said to wait a year after the first surgery to see how it goes, so that’s what I did.
      I am having the hardware removed because there is some pain/sensitivity with it in - especially on cold days. It feels like the hardware (where the plate is) is irritating something with certain movements too. If I didn’t have the pain/irritation, I would have left it in.

    Question, Its been several years since I last did a Cuba Kite trip, I think it was Jan of 2020, wife and I are looking to go next month, Nov, thinking of staying at Melia Costa Rey previously the Pullman, at the far end of CayoCoco. does anyone know if I can Kite right out of this resort still? I know they used to have a Kite School there.

  • @powerlooper
    @powerlooper 7 месяцев назад +1

    I don't blame you for not going back to TT boards. Most TT boards are heavy press-out planks designed for maximum profit. Good as spraytrays and jumping - what you can do with a piece of plywood. I build bidirectional hydrodynamic platforms for extreme kite control. Maybe coming soon.

    Great to see you back in action. It takes a lot of courage to come back after a serious injury, congratulations! Are you still foiling or only on the surfboard? I use a hook on my foil boards to avoid the potential of getting a foot caught but still making is easy to orientate the board for starting. Thanks for sharing. Drew

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks :) yes, still foiling but not as often. PEI has pretty shallow kite spots + stronger winds so we don’t foil as much as we used to. The hook is the way to go, I agree

    Don't use the locked in type straps. I use an old Shinn Monk 2011 strap which has a pad akin to gym mat. I have the straps super loose so that my foot can spin inside the strap however how so loose my foot will pass right through. This means i don't have to bail if one foot comes out. You can buy straps which don't have a locked in feel meant for big air. I haven't tried them myself. It's great you're back. I did wonder how you got on? The depression associated with the temporary loss is difficult. The mental scar can take a year to heal. You'll get there.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the suggestion for straps and the kind words. The mental part was a lot tougher than expected but I feel like I’m getting there :)

    • @cyberanswer
      @cyberanswer 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@OurKiteLife I also use Nasih Apex as long as you make them so loose like described above. It's like I need to extend the velcro as they come undone at times due to not being designed to be ridden so loose. However maybe it's a good thing at times of force? I'm undecided. I also unhook to give you an illustration. It takes fine strap adjustment for decent pop. It's not as good as boots but it allows flexibility.
      An example of the locked in feel is North Flex TT bindings. They have a grippy pad.
      Definitely stretch a lot! Nice riding on your first time back on the TT. All the best.

      @@OurKiteLife The transition to foil strapless is actually pretty easy when you first move to a single front foot hook. NSI in Hood River makes then. Essentially you end up needing this only for the waterstart and soon it becomes pointless. You'll improve footswitching without straps foiling

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  11 месяцев назад +1

      Ya we have a hook for our foil (forgot to bring it in the trip though) - will definitely be using it as I practice strapless foiling :)

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks 😊
      We haven’t tried the Ultra 17m so hard for us to compare. For light wind, if you’re around 165lbs than a Soul 15m (with twintip) is as big of a kite as you’d need. If you’re a bigger guy then maybe 18m soul. Hope that helps!
