I recently beat Pokemon Black for the 13th time as a 21 year old, and to this day, I still feel that chill down my spine that I felt when I was 11 and playing this game. No matter how prepared I am, no matter how much greater my knowledge of the game is in comparison to a previous play through, I feel as if I hit a milestone, however, I know that to truly merge the victor, I must overcome the final hurdles in my way. _Victory Road_ _Unova's Elite Four_ and finally *The Strongest Trainer in Unova*
I loved the way they checked your gym badges with giant doors using the badges as keys to open them instead of the typical npc in front of the victory road counting them
Trio Badge appears to have drumming triplets, 1-2-3 4-pa-let. Also fits the trainer school in West Unova's beginning when Gym 1 is Cheren. Basic having a bassline that only goes from one to another fits how it's a stabilizing force, and intentional-or-not foreshadowing for Cheren being the eventual second Normal leader. 1-rest-rest-rest. Also maybe intentional or not, Poison as a status has a similar rhythm, so it fits Roxie- hit, rest rest rest. Insect adds horns, subdued and yet expanding on the Basic, with its own artsy flair. Because it's jazz and artsy. Bolt sounds to add strings. Electrical cords. Also all the technology in Nimbasa, with the Subway Bros and all the lights and action for model Elesa. Only to be grounded by more 1-2-3-4 of the Quake badge. Stability with the Ground Type. More pronounced string-plucks. The more violin-like strings of the Jet badge waver in and out, like it's trying to fly smoothly, probably a good idea for our pilot Skyla. The Bell? The Freeze badge appears to bring a Bell. I mean, it may fit the antique nature of Brycen, and how ice is a typically past-themed type. But it also returns to the 1-rest-rest-rest of the Basic badge. (It fits with B2W2's progression of badge-get as well, as this is where the Legend badge is checked- it brings to mind the odd towers Unova has.) It only adds more to the Bells in the 'breakdown'. And now the Legend, or Wave, badge. The main trombone section. The true main melody is here, a mix of old and new horns, and it's both of those names- a Legend of a trainer, Wave-ing goodbye to an era.
this music blew my god damn mind as a kid, and I always lamented that I could never find a version with the build-up anywhere what a time to be alive, thanks
One of the best themes in a game, ever. The slow wind breeze, military like composition, build up of drums and the climax, it really felt like the weight of the world was on your shoulders and you were marching to the finish line.
Just imagine if you could access victory road from the start of the game like in Kanto? Each time you collect a badge you can progress further and experience the progression of this theme? Like a build up to collecting the badges and all, this is still amazing tho.

Imagine if Game Freak was able to make a cool idea for a story + region that has you walk past the Victory Road Badge Check Gates after each badge. Like you don't HAVE to unlock the next door to access the next badge, but you COULD open the doors after you get their badges. If you wanted to.
