About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.
Im a leather worker. It didn’t turn completely black because of the type of stain you used. If you wanted them super black, try fieblings usmc black. It’s an alcohol based dye so it penetrates deeper than a gel based dye.
Nice
Beautiful result. I think the undertones of the original colour gives an expensive burnished look. Inspiring!
Thank you!
I like the red showing through a lot better than if it were totally black
Me too, they look AWESOME
Na, looks shit
@@philmcclenaghan7056 looks half asses lol
I love that dark ox blood color you made them
Colby Perry, agreed , better than if they had turned out black.
Same here. Really nice result.
WOW!! I really like that final color. Looks like a chestnut with the subtle reddish highlights and brown. GREAT job!
Gotta love saving a few bucks and making something unique. Well done!!!
I love that the red tint comes thru the black... really unique
Hey, I am curious. How have these aged?
I'm onto my second pair of steel toed blundstones. The first lasted 2 1/2 years which is amazing for my line of work! Super comfortable as well!
Black Cherry, nice.
Bluntstones are well worth the money. Acetone would have been a better deglazer, I worked as a cobbler for 16 years.
Robert Goodyear after use the acetone I've read that Rubbing alcohol helps the dye seep in better. Is that true?
You have the right name for a cobbler!
Would it ruin the leather if put too much? I experienced the acetone eat the midsole on one of my older shoes.
Yes acetone will work way better. I get acetone on my iron rangers at work every once in a while cleaning parts. Acetone will completely strip off Sno-Seal wax and remove any discoloration from oils in the leather.
Saphir decapant or feibing deglazer would have stripped all the colour from your boots and allowed it to take much better.
Nice they’re like a dark oxblood very elegant.
Excellent video exactly what I was looking for.
They look awesome! Much more interesting than just black!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing! The color black is often based from either red or blue.
I LOVE the look of the red under the black though!!! So unique and cool!
It is cool isn’t it? Happy accident. 😆👍
They look like what they are - red with black paint badly covering on top
nice savings and hack
+OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY hey thanks!
Awesome, I like the undertone it left. I was wondering what could be used to strip off the topcoat. Happy to see some cobblers comments as well.
Way to think outside the box, and nice work! Those look great!
Nice job. Totally rock those.
Love the slight auburn tone to it, makes it appear more sophisticated than a simply pure-black pair of boots
Awesome video! Thanks for showing us the process
This is by far the best video on the interweb!!!
I love this video, SO helpful, bloody brilliance right there. Thanks so much dude. HAPPY NEW YEAR from Plymouth uk. Xx
Looks great!!
What an awesome turn out. Would love to try this
Throw in a chunk of lime and some ice cubes and you have a refreshing afternoon beverage.
+J.P. Stone hahaha! Cheers to that!👍
Ironically I'm watching this because I'm trying to find a way of dying my boots to that dark red colour your boots were originally ...haha ;-)
Hahaha😆👍
@@Simplelittlelife the finished shade is terrific...and exclusive! :) Thanks for sharing the creativity...warm winds and keep on.
Sitting here 👀watching him ruin a beautiful pair of boots
I really like that!!!!!! Amazing
I love my Blundys, easily the best footwear I have owned. I had one pair for over ten years. They're a bit cheaper here in Oz though. All the best, Brian.
Original soles?
Great job. I actually like the the way they came out.
So now we know what you do when life gives you lemons, you make a deglazer Lol! Good job, they look great!
Love it! You did a awesome job. I hope mine come out looking nice. 😮
Got my first Blundstones in Australia in 1993 for $20 US which was normal price at the time.
Now I wear RM williams.
Great work! and great videos as always! I would love to see some of the leatherwork on your channel in the future!
+leathertoolz thanks!
Brilliant !
A very nice look to those boots, well done.
Amazing! Now I'm thinking of doing the same to my black Doc Martens and using a Burgundy dye. Hopefully it's a similar finish!
kick ass job. looks great.
jesus i remember when those were $70- bucks down here.
call them Choc Cherry blundstones, lol. awesome job
Nicely done.
Dude, that's such a cool idea
Funny thing is here in Australia I can get them retail for $60 merican but red wings are the opposite and well upwards of $200. You want a comfortable dress/work boot that will last you a lifetime if cared for get your hands on a pair of RM Williams high top boots. They will blow your mind hole! And maybe your budget but just sell an extra couple of knives and treat yourself for the extra hard work you've put in 👍🏻
John bennett red wings here are 200 in America anyway. And they started to go way downhill last few years. I will never buy them again after the last pair fell apart in under a year
@@tek4I’d say put your dollars into the RM Williams
I’ve had mine for two years and they are awesome. I expect them to last me at least 10 years. Longer if I look after them
You made a deep oxblood color. Really cool.
I've never heard of that brand of boot but it looks comfy. I'll look for them on Amazon. Nice leather hack. Think I'll try that on a belt I have.
Nice color!
I really like the occasional random video. Shows you are handy and know much more than just knives
Cool color it looks like Ox blood. Nice job !
Very impressive!!
Totally Kool !
Helped me with my blundstones
Beautiful result! Will this compromise the strength of the leather?
I love black but, I think the color came out better than black. It’s very dark, yet brown so you have your choice as to what to wear with them.
Nice colour, actually has depth. Had plenty of Blundys and always found the elasticized sides give out way before the sole. Maybe your up for some more DIY in a couple of years fitting side laces!
Try RM williams. More expensive but much higher quality.
I turned my light tan brogues become oxblood with this method, they look fantastic now
Just saw your video. I have an EcoFlo gel antique color as well. How was the dye or gel antique when you applied on your boots? Did the color bleed off when dripped with water? Specially when it is raining?
wow great job !!!
Awesome man
I've seen that laceless style of boot but never tried them before but red wings are my go to. The simple fact they sell different widths to actually fit your feel are the best feature. Although I'm starting a new union job and apparently they supply boots so might not be in the market for boots anytime soon. Nice leather hack video though...
These are amazing , been looking for boots in this colour. Wish you could do a pair for me !
Those actually looke pretty cool
Looks better than black looks like weathered brown very nice
Turned out nice, you can always redo them to suit you more
Nice to See something from my home state Tasmania
I'm going to do this to a purse!!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much. There is a massive problem with Skinheads in Oregon and since I moved here, I've been very hesitant to buy Ox Blood Doc Martens. I wore them for a while, but you get too much grief and misunderstanding about it so ultimately, it's just not worth it. I don't mind the 1408's in straight black or Ox Blood but black's just not my style and the boots they make that ARE brown aren't the kind of boot I like so I got the idea to buy the Ox Blood colored ones and just dye them brown. But being that they're somewhat expensive...this video/tutorial stands out among the others. It's appreciated. 👍 One question, though. Is the lemon/rubbing alcohol solution necessary to make the polish stick properly?
You scored on the boots and your dye job is very nice, once you polish them with kiwi black polish the red will not show thru. Thanks for sharing.
very cool!
Good job!
That looks BETTER than just Black!
Well done man!
Thank you!
Wow! Impressive!
Thank you!
Great 👍🏼
The original color looked just fine to me!
I just did the same thing with a pair of high end shoes last week!
Exactly what I was looking for !... Thank you, thank you, thank you very much! Suscribed!
Right on! Thank you so much. Cheers 👍
Great job
Thank you! Cheers 👍
Nothing beats a DEEP OXBLOOD POLISHED BOOT & DARK DENIM PANTS some things just go together & you'll know it instantly 😁
I'm so colored blind they look great man!
They actually look a lot cooler and much more expensive looking!
Thank you!
I really like my Tmberland Pro endurance I buy a new set every year and down grade the older ones to lower and lower job tasks one set is for concrete work that gets that on them another is for painting . Then I got my day to day general work and going into town boots. if you have not tried them they are very comfortable I have even fell asleep in them after a hard days work be boots I have ever had
Nice sort of antiquing...
What kind of dye did you use for this? I’ve been looking for some kind of dye to revolve my maroon leather.
Look into the Angelus Brand . they carry the best deglasser/ finisher and leather dye from my personal experice . highly recommended
oxblood color not bad thanks fot the info
Do u think it work with light dye on black boots? I love this diy
Nice, I like the two dimensional color. I think I’d have made it even but it looks good.
Thank you, I appreciate that 👍
Nice hack!
nice! coz i was planning to byy a pair of dr martens too and the color available is too flashy for me, the MIE Pascal Denver Leather.. i really love the dye which still shows alittle of the warm color under. indeed it's an exclusive variety for you only. thanks for this!
You're welcome!👍
Nice video.
I have a pair of chelsea boots and I want to change their color from camel to black. But they have elastic on the sides. Is it possible to dye the elastic as well with same leather dye?
If no, then any suggestions is really appreciated ?
Thanks.
You got a custom black cherry boot their man looks awesome
Thank you!
Hey! I have a pair of blundstones and I’d like to dye the elastic part on the sides, do you think it would be possible?
Really cool. With this work on a jacket?
Oh, man I would love to have a pair of maroon Blundstones!
Great job on the boots. Good quality Aussie products. Loving your vids all the way from down under!!!!
Blundstone sold out to SE Asia a decade ago.
Crazy!
I have a pair of the lighter brown/tan color and would rather make them navy blue. I'm going to try this. If it doesn't work, I can try black...
wow...there was a shot from left field.....blundstones on a knife channel from Canada.....they are comfortable...
Can you make a small boot knife in one of your next videos?
Aaron Westenkirchner - Yes! I can't hit 2 thumbs up
^^^^
@simplelifehack Do you think that you could make brown boots burgundy?
Would I mind if I ask where you found them for clearance? I want to try out this project but I don’t know where I can find them on clearance.
