  • Warren Harding High School is a public high school in Bridgeport, Connecticut, that opened its doors to students on September 9, 1925, after its cornerstone was laid on May 10, 1924. The school was named in honor of Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States, who passed away shortly before its construction. Harding, a member of the Republican Party, was one of the most beloved sitting U.S. presidents, serving from 1921 until his death in 1923.
Designed by C. Wellington Walker, the original school featured elegant Georgian style architecture and striking Greek columns. The school was in operation for 93 years, producing a few NBA basketball players despite ranking in the bottom 50% of all schools in Connecticut for overall test scores.
In 2018, a new school was built on a former General Electric factory site at a cost of $107 million. The four-story, 207,000 square feet (19,200 m2) structure was equipped with top-of-the-line security features such as bulletproof glass and 130 security cameras. This new school was designed to provide a superior learning environment and enhanced safety measures to the students attending Harding High School in hopes of imroving its rank.
The old school has now been left abandoned with no future plans as of 2023, it now sits as a timecapsule and a relic of the past for all who attended.
As I explored the place I found specimens and something disturbing on the floor.

I attended Harding early 2000's. I wish you went down in the elevator near the lunchroom. That basement area is like a time capsule. I went once, and found old photos, items, and other cool things from throughout Hardings history.
The food was great. The variety was top tier for a highschool.
I was on the football team, and the wrestling team during my time, but I was also pretty mischievous. Every seat in the auditorium has my name on it.
This video brings back a lot of memories. Thanks

I went to Harding from 94-98 to attend the amazing health careers magnet program. Our school was next to the city’s hospital and across from another health facility. The teachers were educated and able to provide to a diverse student body. Many had their masters degrees or above. The students came from all walks of life. Just because we were from inner city neighborhoods doesn’t mean we were the worst. We were amazing!!!! So many great memories and amazing people!!! ❤❤❤❤ to Harding. I hope they rebuild it and use its beautiful design for good!! It’s a real estate heaven for either commercial or living. The stage and auditorium were majestic. The celebration of a mix of cultures were always brewing!!! Love and light to that space!!

If you're from Bridgeport, there is no way you can be shocked at the way they left this school and left so much behind. The circus may have left Bridgeport long ago but, the clowns were left behind to run the city. This is just such a Bridgeport thing to do. They never get it right. I for one am not shocked one bit.

Thanks for doing this. It was both nostalgic but disappointing to see how my high school was left when they decided to rebuild it. So much of the history could have been preserved and taken to the new building. I also think that for a city that's always crying about money for its schools, they sure left a lot of supplies that could have either been auctioned or donated. Especially the books! That library was still quite full. Perhaps alumni could have supported that initiative with proper planning and notice. I know many of them, including myself, would have.

Went to Tech, too. Walked (or drove from middle of Junior year, on...) past Harding every morning on my way to BHT. All the kids in my East End neighborhood who didn't got to Prep or ND went to Harding. Kind of upsetting to see everything they left behind. Typical city government. Nothing from the old school goes to the new school. Everything has to be brand new. Thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff left to be crushed and piled in a landfill somewhere when this building comes down or gets repurposed.

It had big bleachers flanking the field and they were packed for the annual Thanksgiving day football game against rival Central HS across town.
I performed on the stage twice in annual school plays.
the murals in the library should be saved and all archival materials should have been removed and catalogued at time of closure.

It's such a beautiful school, especially the library. My school library was like 4 rows of shelves in the middle of the room, had 1 desk, which was joined with the librarian's desk, and no computers whatsoever. Was also locked half the time. But we would still go there sometimes when it was unlocked, just to escape the brain-melting noise of the corridors and just walk between the shelves for an entire recess.

The police would block off the streets at dismissal for a good half hour and the students that flooded the streets were so wild, causing havoc and chaos every day, often fighting, selling drugs and damaging cars on the daily. The neighborhood itself is not safe though since the school closed, it made living there just slightly more tolerable. Still tho, if you can avoid living in this area, do so AT ALL COSTS

Very awesome school ecplore!! I know Bridgeport very well, I'm from Rhode Island! Looks like a fun explore! ❤️ we had 2 schools to walk back n forth with a cafeteria but no coffee shop but our school is near a busy area with coffee shops and fast food places so yes we snuck out. I had quite a few of those detention slips 😂😂 awesome explore guys!!

That coffee shop used to be the nursery when I went there. So many teenage girls were pregnant/young moms, the school had its own daycare.

Good 😊 Morning 🌞 Steve. I just googled this school, and it looks like they bailed on this property to move into a brand new one on Bond Street.
The new one looks really futuristic and high tech.
