I heard someone else mention this somewhere, but I think that the best middle ground between the current aftershow and a full on live reunion would be giving everyone 24 hours between FTC and Jeff asking his questions. It's close enough to the reveal that the show gets the raw, emotional reactions they want, while also giving the finalists some time to eat, shower, and generally compose themselves before being questioned.
One finale thing I really miss from watching S47 (after watching only S1-8 and S33 in their entirety, all within the last 3 months!) is not getting to see all the other players in the reunion who got voted out pre-jury and who we never saw again! Having never watched a true new-era season, I wasn’t prepared for that! I can see Jeff’s point about wanting the reunion part to be real and raw and not tainted with 6+ months of life back at home and seeing the social media reaction etc, but I do really miss a bit of a longer reunion with the full cast.
I believe South Africa: Return of the Outcasts did something similar, where they brought everyone back for a reunion but gave the players a day to clean up and get relaxed.
Sam was technically on the right side of every vote he cast, but it comes with a pretty large asterisk. The only reason he wasn't on the wrong side of the Sierra vote is because he didn't have a vote. The only reason he was on the right side of the Sol vote was because Rachel told him about it (and he even tried unsuccessfully to subvert that vote but gave up at the end and went with the majority). He voted correctly for Genevieve because it was her or him. And he also didn't have a vote (because Rachel blocked him) for Andy's boot. So however you would have viewed that vote (on the right side because of votes cast or because of the end result) he was a non-factor in it. Rome, Gabe, and Kyle were all lopsided obvious votes. He wasn't part of Tiyana's boot. That leaves Operation Italy, which was a great move, but not his entirely and one where Andy did a lot of the heavy lifting. And while he had the most votes cast against him, it was largely because he was the "Break Glass in Case of Idol" player 3 times. He was never Plan A for a vote in the entire game. So he's overselling his threat level there. He drove zero votes in the post-merge (Operation Italy was a group effort), and by his own admission played most of it from the bottom after the Sierra boot. I still think he played a very good game given his circumstances, but to say he was a bigger threat than Rachel just doesn't bear scrutiny for more than a minute.
30:38 They can do both. Get raw and immediate reactions and film that, then bring them together and get their reactions to the edit and how they were protrayed. Jeff could be like, this was your immediate reaction during our discussions. Do you feel the same way? Also, its nice getting to hear from premerge boots. I would live to hear from Rome, TK, Tiyana, Anika etc. I agree. Its not memorable.
Or even better, get a reaction of their reaction to the Final tribal council a year later Every season! This would keep seasons living on forever. Like a Season reunion every year, put it in their contracts that they have to come back every 2 years or so, this would invigorate the fanatics. Just think we could find out about them years later, or even see who is the last survivor to live in real life 😮
Despite not having big characters, I think 47 is now the best of the new era. Very well edited and I also think that operation Italy will go down as the most memorable move of the new era.
Great finale but the revisionist history from Jeff about how the new reunion style is better than the old one is lame. I'm not buying it. They should just admit that they don't wanna pay for it anymore.
I can kind of see his point about wanting the raw and real reactions instead of those tainted by months of dealing with the real world and social media response etc… (and I’m absolutely feeling for the other finalists who didn’t win for having to take part in a discussion at that specific time! So giving them the grace of a night’s sleep and a hot shower and hot meal and time to compose their thoughts would be great) but I still think there must be a way to get both that rawness and the full-cast reunion, which I really miss. I’ve recently watched S1-8 in full for the first time, and I’m shocked by those early seasons with full ”where are they now” episodes of visiting all the cast in their home states, in addition to the live audience reunions! That must have cost a bomb! Surely there’s a way to do a full-cast reunion with even a scaled-down live audience (or none at all?! That part isn’t as important, I don’t think! Though the atmosphere at one of those massive live shows for the players must have been incredible and electric)
I prefer to see the live reactions. They have an entire island; they have the money. I don't see it as gaslighting, or saving money. Remember COVID? They stopped doing the finales with a live audience because of COVID, not out of the need to save money. They had to change the entire format of the show. Condensing it down to a month provides more time for post-production, more breaks for their employees, perhaps a better work/life balance. There are other factors other than money driving this decision. The biggest factor being it's more exciting for me as a viewer. And Rachel implies that psychologically, it is easier to trust raw reactions versus everyone becoming tainted by online smears, then waiting a year later, and you don't trust a single thing cast members say. The ego is removed, and it's more authentic. Or, it's revisionist history, sure.
I actually disagree. Jeff’s reasoning for why the new reunion style is better is very sound. I *always* used to complain about the old reunions because the players wouldn’t answer questions honestly. They’d been completely influenced by audience perception and the edit. Having the reunion immediately after makes it so their answers are the most honest & real that we’re ever gonna get. Honestly, the only downside, imo, is that Jeff himself hasn’t watched the edit, so he doesn’t know a lot of the more game intricate questions to ask.
I don’t hate the concept of doing it on the island but it’s just oh so boring. Jeff needs a day or two to gather info from production on what is questions to ask to get interesting answers. I do miss the live winner reaction though, it’s so much more hype than like 8 jury members lukewarmly cheering.
I'm going to keep posting this for everyone who keeps discounting Rachel's game due to luck: Survivor 43 idol holders: Jeanine, Cody and Jesse Survivor 44 idol holders: Mathew, Brandon, Danny, Carolyn Survivor 45 idol holders: Austin, Julie, Sabiyah Survivor 46 idol holders: Jem, Hunter, Tiffany, Q I cant remember everyone off top but finding an idol has proven to be very unlucky.
31:51 what if they did it next day at Ponderosa? Still announce winners and do a toast… don’t give back their phones for one more night and do it the next day
Hey guys! I am also not a fan of what happens after the finale but I get Jeff's point. Everything still is raw right after. However, this is not a reunion. This is an after show. The FANS and pre-jury still need a reunion. I would have loved to have seen Aysha and Rome again. Emotions and feelings are also different months after the season has wrapped, so they would still have new and interesting content. It's not hard. After show. Reunion. Don't do a two part 2 hour season finale. Do a finale on one episode and the reunion on the next. Compromise for everybody.
Random thought but please let me know if anyone agrees. During the pre merge there was a random group split and Rachel was olaced on a team with 5 tuku's. Coincidentally, there was a secret advantage on the reward for the other team who won and Sol was able to find it and save Rachel. Overall, pretty balanced advantage for someone to use on someone that was disadvantaged by the challenge tribe split. So here's my real point. When Rachel used the block a vote on sam, and his parchment said "unless you have an extra vote please return to your seat", does anyone think potentially there was an extra vote advantage somewhere that no one claimed? It just seems so weird to me that the parchment was so specific instead of just saying "Your vote has been blocked."
@@jasonmuiruri Operation Italy was the most praised move of the season and one of the most praised in recent years. Rachel's idol only really impressed the jury and I don't even understand why since she used it in the most obvious way possible.
