Really helpful to see the progression from beginner to advanced. Makes soloing feel less intimidating and makes you realize relaxed/simpler is often better
Thanks for the comment and for watching! I'm glad you picked up on that. Yes, exactly, I don't want drummers to be intimidated by solos but rather look forward to really saying something on the kit. I'm working on my new drum soloing course at Jazz Drum School right now. If you enjoyed this video, you're going to love my new course. I'll drop a note here when it's done. Keep swinging my friend 🤙
Keith thanks so much! I think I'm finding something that resonates well with you and my other viewers. These videos are fun to make too. Keep swinging my friend 🤙
Evan thanks so much for the comment and request! I made a 1-minute drum lesson video for the Jazz Drum School email list that went out today. Look for it in your inbox. Thanks for the idea 🤙
Thanks for watching and for the question! I own 3 kits. 1. 1992 Yamaha Maple Custom 2. 2004 Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute 3. Pearl Midtown. Ironically, it's the Pearl Midtown (the cheapest of the 3) that gets all the work here in Japan. If you didn't already see it, I think you'll enjoy my video review of the Pearl Midtown: ruclips.net/video/2awYSlSQy6M/видео.html Keep swinging my friend🤙
That's a great collection! I'm really surprised by how well you've got the midtown sounding, I'm only asking as I am/was in the market for a gigging bop kit. Ended up with a pearl president at a absolute steal of a price somehow 😂. I never gave the midtown a thought but I definitely think it'll be smth I'll add to my collection further down the line. Thanks for answering my question!
Thanks for the kind comment, question and for watching! I'm using a 16" kick drum as a part of my Pearl Midtown drum kit. You might also enjoy my review of this versatile drum set: ruclips.net/video/2awYSlSQy6M/видео.html Keep swinging my friend 🤙

Thank you. You are such a great teacher and your “less is more” approach really helped me solo with confidence.

Hey, Von! Any tips on integrating bass drum hits into trading 4s and 8s? You might go over it in a course I haven’t done yet. 😁

I’ve used the 16” floor of my early 70s Slingerland as the bass drum, and then the 12 & 13 as the toms. Works great!
@@panplayer must be a great sounding kit!!
This is great Von. Btw what’s the bpm (for my metronome…)⁉️✌️🌻
