Yes and we can see today how easy it is to control masses of people whos opinion and world view comes from observation on what is popular and polically correct. It is very easy make it seem in media that something is very popular and accepted whit fake comment sections and methods that we dont know anything about. Health today is about staying inside, social distancing and taking spikes that seem to make people sick and die. It is funny that over night ukroids turned from ruskies to blue eyed freedom fighters.

One cannot generalize reactions of the french population. There are films from after August 1944 in Paris welcoming the allied troups.
But also after landing in June44. Another thing was, I believe, the bombing and destruction of french cities before and after landing on a
large scale. It is known the reason was to save their own lives. How many French citizens got killed by the bombings?
Stop the wars, then we do not have all this problems! And don't think the western alliies were any better than the German soldiers
who fought as well for their country! And, do not forget, the 2nd war was also the result of Versailles in 1919, planned by the British
      and French long before 1914!

Pretty sure that the civilians that were jeering and spitting on the prisoners were the same ones getting their head shaved or shot outright in August. Either that or they swear that they were staunch supporters of the resistance after the war.

My old foreman (RIP) told me when he landed on D day they eventually went on and moved forward to a village, and asked if the could have some food. They were not made welcome by the villager's, so he told me "so bugger it, we helped ourselves. "

My mother in law (born in 1938) told me about the difference between american and french occupation. Some civilians in her village were killed when the americans came. When the whole family next door died because they were hit by a genade the american officer replied: "Maybe you should thank your 'Führer' for this!" But she was a little girl and everybody treated her friendly. But the came the french and she was very affraid of them. They had to leave their house and live in a barn and the soldiers took away a lot of fourniture and stuff. The children were not allowed to play on the streets anymore. The french had suffered from german occupation, the amercans hadn't.
But when france wanted to divide their occupation zone into more the twenty different states, the british and americans intervened. The wanted a strong West-germany for the cold war.
I think it's a good lesson how to make a defeated nation love peace and democracy.. The allies and Western neighbors had every right to to let germany suffer for their comitted crimes but they didn't. My own parents were born after the war and my dad always said that already in the late 1960s they had everything they ever wanted. He and his parents have always been very thankful that his generation was the very first that was not supposed to fight in a war. His grandmother, who had lost three brothers, prayed for peace every single day. But as far as I can see, they never spoke about their own responsibility or the holocaust. They only said that it wasn't all right what "they" or "he" did to the jews, they never used the word "we" in this regard.

I don't think the French were coward. Why then the Briish Army fled Duenkirchen in June 1940? Why not fight until the bitter end, give hell to the
Germans? Before the war in 1939 the French asked themselves "Mourrir pour Danzig"? And the war 1914-18 took place mainly in France, just
20 years ago! It did not hurt the British Island like France (and Germany etc.etc.).Only the Americans entering both wars was decisive in the West,
while the Eastern part was done by the Red Army in WW2.
Alone the British and French had no chance to defeat Germany and Austria. That is why they needed also Russia, which was defeated in 1917
by the German Empirial Army, allowing to send troups to the Western front, in contrast to 1941-1945.
The lesson at least for Germans should be: Out of Nato, out f wars in other interests, good relations with Russia, which was torpedoed
by our " friends and allies" after the wall fell. The problem of many Europeans seems to be that they still think they have lost the wars.
We all have lost the wars and mainly the Angloamericans started the war against Russia on the back of Ukraine! Clever, because they
have no skin in the game? No, sheer stupidity. Ukraine, and maybe we, will collaps, but not Russia! Just wait a while!
Shameful for Germany that we participate in this dirty business of geostratic thinking!! Russia was no thraet to Poland, Finnland,
Germany, USA etc.etc. By the way, it was Thatcher and Mitterand who where against German Re-Unification ("we beat them twice, no
they are back" etc.). Stupid Germany's share and burden in the Cold War was 500.000 soldiers at the frontline right through divided
Germany ( Churchill's proposal to Stalin 1943 in Teheran). In 1989/1990 "our friends in Europe" lifted their masks.
Let's wait until this war in Eastern Europe ends. We will continue the willingly interrupted relations by the West between Russia and
      Germany.

The clip from Paris is a German film and as such it’s mostly for propaganda purposes. Clearly the arrival of the PoWs had been announced As can be seen by the amount of cameras. The fact they arrive in a special bus tells me it’s no ordinary Pow transportation. Also, they seemed specially selected as there are British and US Airborne mixed in with regular army. Speculation on my part but the crowd had most likely been specifically selected too.

Yes, of course it was used for propaganda purposes. Did you think that it was meant to look like a natural situation? There were plenty of fascist French and civilians that had lost loved ones during Allied bombing so planting people would probably not be necessary. Just tell the film crew to find and then follow angry civilians. The guards seemed not too bothered to keep the crowd away. Surely they were under orders to let them lash out, up to a certain point.
