I have to confess that I was originally very in favor of the darker color. But seeing it on the wall I can see that it makes the room too dark. You made the right choice. Also, this is exactly the type of video content I really love. ❤

I love the fern motif ...but it would be more natural in a fern green color (paler green than what she has used before), and in the inverse with the ferns green and the background white. As it is, the ferns are white and the background is blue. And if you look carefully the ferns take up most of the space on the wallpaper ....therefore there is more white than blue. So the light color prevails. However, if the color was pale green on the ferns it would still be fairly light (and the background white). The Creamy Taupe is just a perfect solution Anna, I always thought the boot room needed a third colour such as a taupe to let everything sing. Curious to see the finished room, you always find a unique way to balance all the elements with panache. Facade is beautiful.
No not blue, the third colour brings harmony which is what the space needs in the current design motif/colour ways. It needs quietening down, not more visual stimulation.
I agree with you, Anna. It’s a very difficult decision. Both colors look good with your gorgeous wallpaper. The room will be gorgeous, no matter which color is used. And, hopefully this isn’t the case, but if you live with it a while and don’t like it-it’s just paint and labor-lots of labor 😉. Love the planters and so glad the wasps are gone. ouAAAou! What a transformation! That blue is goooorgeous! Still, paint is only paint. You could always change your minds again. Your house is a canvas that’ll be beautiful no matter what.
I worked as a furniture maker for many years with an absolutely brilliant interior designer with an architectural background who would have been very much at home working on any facet of a home like yours whatever your prerequisites. One of his cardinal rules of design was to always be consistent. I heard that on more than one occasion. He also explained to me in a house we were remodeling that he liked to be sure that colors would segue from one room into the next especially when you had to travel through one room to get to another, like many older homes. It may have been something as simple as a tri-colored rope braid around the bottom of a couch with some matching cushions, but there it was, leading you subtly from the room you were in to the next as opposed to a virtual stab in the eye of contrasts. And if the client were a big fan of color, that was his bailiwick. He did a lot of memorable work in his life. On that note, in my opinion, I have to give you kudos, Anna for the choice you made with the color. So in that context, the move from the kitchen to the boot room and vice versa is exemplary. How are the transitions to the next rooms? To the outside, the exterior facade work is outstanding. I am curious, however about the "global" reach of your boot room color as Philipp mentioned and when it was established that he was a man of "truth". I must have missed that episode. Jack L.
Moving forward, the kids playhouse could be surrounded by plants that wasps and bees just don't want to be around. There are some that might work quite well in small borders around it. I don't know if the effect they have is very strong and it may increase your watering work quite significantly, but it could be worth checking out. They tend to be quite nice herbs - you might get the kids maintaining their own little herb garden around the playhouse. Good luck with the research if you do it....!
The white makes the room bigger, less claustrophobic being a narrow room already, and it showcases the wallpaper, which is the star!!! Yes, it is tons of work, but sometimes you have to try on a color to decide!!! Anna - oh my goodness, look at your beautiful home!!! You made 4000 gorgeous choices!! As you pointed out, social media image-sharing allows us to show final results, but skips all the common agonizing about design choices and do-overs. It's easier to tell ourselves that we suck at something because we forget that creating things is iterative - it's normal to go back again and again. We need to normalize trial and error methods!
So glad you finally chose the white. Makes it daring, spacious and elegant. Small areas light, large areas dark is ok. Keep using your artist degree, you know what feels right!! 😊
i am Gilad it wasn't precious bees (they are usually looked after and re-homed by a professional bee keeper in case they chose the wrong place). Those were wasps.
Exquisite, is one word that comes to mind. Breathtaking, is another. The Chateau’s facade is just one part of the magnificent workmanship that has been done to this home. Both of you, the carpenters, masonry and other workman, really did put their heart and soul into this project, and it shows. Thank you Anna for going with the white. The Blue was too overwhelming for the small narrow space. Your wallpaper will stand out . Just love the Ziggy mister. ❤️
Wow... One little word that says it all for all the amazing artisan work and an incredible result. The level of detail is amazing! Thank you for sharing the adventure...
The facade look amazing and you were so right to paint out that blue. In my opinion the blue closed in on the space and made it feel very narrow and too dark. Glad you changed your mind and went with the white. Good for you!!!!
Wow! The craftmanship looks amazing! Such a difference between the old before and the beautiful New Chateau! The building looks so happy now. I love all the energy and wonderful designer's eye you both put into all the projects of this huge renovation. Thank You for sharing. It is so satisfying to watch the transformation of every room into Love and Beauty. Fantastic! Fabulous! Stupendous! I wish I lived there.
I am a professional color consultant, and the warm white looks great. There is a dialogue or echo with the kitchen paint color, and the boot room become an ancillary room of the kitchen. Undertones are the one most important thing to consider in a paint color, and this white appears to have an orange undertone, and that ties in with the persimmon paint color of the dining room beyond. Having said that, I liked the blue. I have also tried something, done schematics, and then when it is up on the wall or door, etc, you listen to your gut -its just a feeling, and you need to trust that. I am glad its not a bright white, because that would have been too stark, and it does not reflect the period of the house, or the architecture, or the function as a boot roof that gets heavy use with mud and scuffs. To help you going forward in selecting paint color, I use this process with my clients and projects: 1) What is outside, is there a color I need to consider from the view? 2) What is the orientation-North, South, East or West. North facing room have cooler, blue light, and if I did a blue painted bedroom that faced north I would choose a blue with some green in it to be warmer. I never do a white with grey or blue undertones in a north facing room, but I would do a neutral, or a warm white. South light is warmer, and you can do a color that has some blue undertones. 3) fixed elements: what is the color and undertones in existing flooring, or trim, or stone, or anything that will stay in the room that you need to consider. Paint can just be the backdrop that harmonizes with your life and furnishings 4) what is the function of the room. If it is a room where you gravitate to during the day, then a lighter paint finish whereas rooms that you just pass through, or use in the evening are often atmospheric in a medium or dark paint color. 5) LRV, or light reflective value. from 0-100 dark to light, most people are happy with a LRV of 83 for a bight color, and 64 or so for a medium color. Oddly enough, a dark paint color can make a small room seem bigger because it make the walls recede. I think that if you go the dark route that artwork helps break up the dark wall. 6) what is the feeling, what is your nostalgia, memory; what makes you feel good in the room. Do you love it. Have fun with it all. experiment. and lastly for you: You have done a fabulous job on all the paint colors throughout, I think it all looks exceptional.
I don’t know if you can do it, but if you can, I’d love to read what you wrote if you would see if paragraphs with spaces would be put in. I do that a lot when I write more than just one or two sentences and it makes it much easier to read. I got partway through and then my eyes just couldn’t cope. But I’d love to be able to read all you said there.
@@louisegogel7973 Hi, I added paragraphs. In narrowing down a paint color It comes down to beginning on the outside and then working to the inside and then deeper inside you. outside view orientation fixed elements function paint LRV feeling
What a transformation by very skilful people. Simply beautiful. Shame the blue was rejected as like Philip I’m a great lover of that colour, to my eye it complimented the wallpaper completely and as the boot room is small you can afford to be bold.
The facade looks absolutely stunning and worth every single dollar you spent! Oh Anna, I am sorry I am team blue on this one. Your wallpaper looks absolutely stunning against the blue but it blends in with white. The white is 'non offensive' the safe choice you make when you are struggling to make a choice. The blue is a bold and dramatic choice, but stunning. I could have cried when you painted over it, but it's your house and you are one doing all the painting work, so ultimately you have to go with what you want.
i thought this too @@kindlydude - she could definitely get away with blue highlights/trims to emphasise the "intentionality" of the design, as Phillip pointed out
They did a phenomenal job on the whole facade! What a transformation! While l love the blue colour you chose, I'm glad you went light. The stunning wallpaper should be the star and the paint the quiet accent. It's going to be amazing when finished. 👍🤗🇨🇦
Yay!! I think the white is more neutral, and makes the wallpaper the star, which is what it is. You work so hard with wonderful finished results, thanks for letting us know the uncertainties too.
Kudos to you, Anna, for having the tenacity to keep going until you are happy with the result. The facade is an amazing difference. Good workmen make all the difference.
Stunning work done on the facade! Amazing transformation. ❤ l love the white in the boot room. The blue was a pretty colour but it really closed in the space. Gorgeous wallpaper! ❤ beautiful planters. Great work on eliminating the wasps!
I love the creamy white color! It will really let your beautiful wallpaper shine! I realize how much work all of the painting and repainting represents…but it was a good call. The chateau looks spectacular with the facade completed.
The jade color glass may in all likelihood be glass cullet from a commercial glass manufacture. When making glass commercially there is always a bit left over in the refractory vessel. This is then removed before the next use. The cullet was then sold to masons (among other end users) as fill. My guess is that there was a glass factory nearby to your chateau.
Beautiful craftsmanship on the facade which looks so rich. With Anna's wallpaper the boot room will look stunning regardless of the color. Pale aqua with an aqua & navy cushion is what I thought of when Philip was talking, even though your choices have been top notch and I am just a granny enjoying your journey of dreams.
What a result...such hard work for the guys who carried out this mountainous undertaking...it looks amazing...you must be so pleased 😀 The boot room has created conflicting reactions but a coat of paint can be changed...happy days to you all.. 🌞❤️🌞
I was with you Phillip about the blue but that cream color is nice as well. The facade is beautiful! They did an amazing job on it. Glad you found the right people to work on it.
My Lord, Anna and Philip!!! The façade, indeed all four façades. Stunning!!! It looks restored and refreshed, not blazingly new, not 21st century. You both deserve the Grand Cross in The Order of Preservation of Cultural Heritage!! (Should it exist) Truly stunning and utterly respectful to the chateau. And Anna dear, I do understand your colour struggle. However.... I do think Philip is right. Beige is so... Bahama beige... Your blue on the other hand, in combination with your gorgeously designed wallpaper looks both fresh and modern and... a nod to the 18th century. Personally I would have chosen blue. Still, admiration for ALL the work you've put in. Eat your heart out Versailles!
I love the light color with the wallpaper. I’m sure you have to see it in person to fully appreciate it. I couldn’t have lived with the blue either. 14:53
You might be right. It does make the room lighter, but I wouldn't have chosen beige, instead off white. Ah well, I simply have to go and see for myself indeed!@@reladie
God bless all the hard working masons. They did a beautiful job that they can be proud of. I hope their families all see their work. On the mud room color, the light will be nice. If you find it gets dirty, you can always paint over it with the grey!
I really like the blue. Just a suggestion. Trim and door frames blue and the storage cupboard the cream white with blue cushions to make it seem like a piece of furnature.
É um prazer "enorme" ver como enfim ficaram as fachadas do Chateau...LINDAS e na minha opinião a entrada das "Botas" ficou muito melhor em branco!!! Beijos do Rio de Janeiro - Brasil.🥰
I am Team Chateau all the way, but I agree with you, Anna, that the walls be white. Not only will it set off the gorgeous wallpaper, but it will do a nice job of framing the clutter of jackets and boots without distracting from the wallpaper designs. And, in the darker seasons, it will maximize the natural light coming into the room. This is a tough room to design because it has to be hardworking and play well with the sightlines into the other rooms. The white trim helps all the colors in the house to play well together. I say this knowing that my personal color preferences are more aligned with Philip's. Thanks for sticking with the project and sharing it with us. 🥰
Both color versions has strong design justification. Your work is so balanced through the chateau. The blue one would clash with the kitchen and dinning room once the doors are kept open. Great work on the facade!
Or leave the room just light with the woodwork, coat and boot drama. As joint element with statement kitchen, dinning room and outdoors. And bring the blue wallpaper to totally different room, where to go bolder with supporting elements. Maybe Annas gut feeling and forum leads to something grander of a scale :)
Seeing the before, I have more appreciation for how much vision and fortitude it took to take on the chateau. It is now a beautiful family home to raise your lovely girls in.
The Blue is just beautifull and makes the room look special. I agree with Philipp. Everyone has white rooms which are boring most of the time. Besides, this georgeous wallpaper deserves a complimentary color.
I still like the blue trim. Makes the room warm and comforting. When the wallpaper is up then you will be enveloped in all the beauty. But you have to live with it so it is your choice. It’s all good in the end. All your renovations are exquisite. Such a wonderful and talented family. A joy to watch.😊❤️

The light paint is the right paint. The blue made the room too dark and shadowy and even spooky the white makes it bright and cheery and elegant.

The façade is gorgeous. What a relief, knowing it has now been done correctly!
The before & after of the facade' stunning finish is impeccable ❤
Definitely the white with the wallpaper 👌
Hello Darlings
The chateau looks stunning
And my dear you are a hero
For getting rid of the bees
Lots of hugs to this beautiful family &🐶Ziggy
i am Gilad it wasn't precious bees (they are usually looked after and re-homed by a professional bee keeper in case they chose the wrong place). Those were wasps.
The light colour looks much better. And the outside looks great. 😊
Everything is looking beautiful! Can’t wait to see those iron gates at the entrance!
Same.
I love the white …-
All bedrooms are colors … white brings fresh modern lightness … I agree w Anna.
STUNNING RENOVATION….So much hard work and GOOD DESIGN decisions… Plus EXCELLENT narration & videography!! ❤from Montreal
The facade look amazing and you were so right to paint out that blue. In my opinion the blue closed in on the space and made it feel very narrow and too dark. Glad you changed your mind and went with the white. Good for you!!!!
Oh WOW, the house looks terrific. Seeing the before and after was an eye opener. Congratulations!!!
To help you going forward in selecting paint color, I use this process with my clients and projects:
1) What is outside, is there a color I need to consider from the view?
2) What is the orientation-North, South, East or West. North facing room have cooler, blue light, and if I did a blue painted bedroom that faced north I would choose a blue with some green in it to be warmer. I never do a white with grey or blue undertones in a north facing room, but I would do a neutral, or a warm white. South light is warmer, and you can do a color that has some blue undertones.
3) fixed elements: what is the color and undertones in existing flooring, or trim, or stone, or anything that will stay in the room that you need to consider. Paint can just be the backdrop that harmonizes with your life and furnishings
4) what is the function of the room.
This is valuable advice. Thank you.
@@diana.m34 I am so pleased!
@@louisegogel7973 yes!
@@louisegogel7973 Hi, I added paragraphs.
In narrowing down a paint color It comes down to beginning on the outside and then working to the inside and then deeper inside you.

Absolutely loving the project not only makes art, fulfills personal dream but also supports local artisans 🎉
What a transformation by very skilful people. Simply beautiful. Shame the blue was rejected as like Philip I’m a great lover of that colour, to my eye it complimented the wallpaper completely and as the boot room is small you can afford to be bold.
Anna you are the best painter . To do it twice is a testement to your ability as a decorator
Perhaps Anna could just paint the trim around the doors blue ...as a compromise for Phillip.
i thought this too @@kindlydude - she could definitely get away with blue highlights/trims to emphasise the "intentionality" of the design, as Phillip pointed out
love the blue. makes it look warm and rich.. the façade is amazing.
They did a phenomenal job on the whole facade! What a transformation! While l love the blue colour you chose, I'm glad you went light. The stunning wallpaper should be the star and the paint the quiet accent. It's going to be amazing when finished. 👍🤗🇨🇦
Thank you for including before pictures of the facade, what a huge difference!
You have come along way with the decorating process, and everything is really, really coming together.
You are certainly committed to excellence in your projects, in your ideas and designs!!! 🥰❤️😎🌻🌻🌻
I like the white better. It really brightens up this area.
the facade looks gorgeous and thanks for repainting the entry mud room.....so much better in the lighter color!
Beautiful job both the entry way and the facade! You both are remarkable and those that did the facade are incredibly skilled.
Spot on!!! the Kitchen colour perfect choice. Leaving the wallpaper by itself as the focal point. Ana has impecable taste.
Stunning work done on the facade! Amazing transformation. ❤ l love the white in the boot room. The blue was a pretty colour but it really closed in the space. Gorgeous wallpaper! ❤ beautiful planters. Great work on eliminating the wasps!
I just love the way Phillip rationalizes ‘truth’ and, in the end, it looks great! The whole renovation is great, fantastic
I won't be able to catch the premiere, but can't wait to see the difference! Please hit the thumbs up!
White is for sure the best idea, Good job. Facade is amazing.
Bravo for everything
Beautiful craftsmanship on the facade which looks so rich. With Anna's wallpaper the boot room will look stunning regardless of the color. Pale aqua with an aqua & navy cushion is what I thought of when Philip was talking, even though your choices have been top notch and I am just a granny enjoying your journey of dreams.
BRAVO!!!!!
YOU ALL DID A FANTASTIC JOB. THE FACADE IS BEAUTIFULLY DONE.❤👏👏🤳👏👏👏
What a result...such hard work for the guys who carried out this mountainous
undertaking...it looks amazing...you must be so pleased 😀
The boot room has created conflicting reactions but a coat of paint can be changed...happy days to you all..
Agree with you, Anna. Go light in such a small space! It's more cheerful too.
É um prazer "enorme" ver como enfim ficaram as fachadas do Chateau...LINDAS e na minha opinião a entrada das "Botas" ficou muito melhor em branco!!! Beijos do Rio de Janeiro - Brasil.🥰
Yay! So glad you picked the white! The blue closes the walls in too much.❤
I am Team Chateau all the way, but I agree with you, Anna, that the walls be white. 🥰
The best way to start a week is by watching your videos, I love it! Thank you! I was team blue all the way, but that final color looks promising...
Both color versions has strong design justification. Your work is so balanced through the chateau. The blue one would clash with the kitchen and dinning room once the doors are kept open. Great work on the facade!
That's what Anna thinks.
I think the blue was too strong a statement for such a narrow entrance. The larger rooms should be the main feature. A good decision.
@@HowToRenovateAChateauI think Anna is wrong and I agree with Philip!
