  • Finding the perfect bike light can be a challenge with the huge array of products out there. I don't like to fiddle with external batteries, plugs and cables, otherwise I would have bought the Lupine SL AF. Although here is my best light so far. (Not StVZO approved in Germany)

Really helpful review, thanks! I've been considering the BC35R for a while but it's quite expensive, your video shows it seems to be worth it. The side lights look good for safety and using the high beam instead of a bell is a good idea. I have an e-bike, when I first bought lights for it I got some Cateye USB rechargeable lights thinking they would charge whilst they were on but they don't, they only charge when turned off. My bike has a USB port so I thought it would be great to charge them whilst running but it's not possible with my lights. The setup I want to go for now is to have a front and back light that run off the 6V supply of the Bafang electric motor controller, there are dedicated front and rear light connections, this way I will always have lights on my bike that will work when the bike's main battery is in, no need to take lights off for charging so I won't end up in the dark with no lights as I've left them at home charging, which has happened a few times. I've already ordered a Herrmans H Black Pro for e-bikes as a 6V front light, it's only about 230 lumens though. The 6V supply of my e-bike's system only puts out 3W of power which limits the lights that will work with it. So next to the Herrmans light I will get the Fenix BC35R so I also have a really bright front light. I see the Fenix also has an alarm on it which looks useful. The lights connected into the Bafang system on my bike will come on automatically when it senses it's dark, or if you manually put the display into night mode. So I can have the 6V front (and rear when I get one) light come on automatically. I was thinking I might even be able to get this working with the Fenix as well. The BC35R has a remote control button panel to turn it on and switch between modes. If I can wire this into the Bafang system using a relay then it may be possible to have the Fenix come on automatically also. So long as there is a simple on/off button in the remote control panel, I could have the Bafang system trigger it by using a relay connected to the Bafang's 6V connector that comes on automatically (relay used just so the Fenix's on/off circuit can be completed or broken without the Bafang system's current running through it). Should be great it I can get it to work!

Some people said it's too floody due to XHP50A emitter. In Fenix bc25r the emitter can be replaced/reflowed with dedomed SST-20 95cri and the upper part of the layered beam will become slightly brighter and narrower, while the lower part slightly less bright which should be better for distance vision since overexposure of nearfield/foreground is known to be...
As there aren't any small die 6V 18W emitters easily obtainable then dedomed 3000k 90cri XHP50A for better depth perception and less nearfield glare could be useful only as a high beam when raised more upwards in horizontal position (typical position was 30° downwards for low beam). Not sure how the optical system compares in terms of efficiency to Busch and Mueller which also uses upper lens but with a horizontally positioned emitter instead of classically mounted forward facing one.

Stvzo lights with integrated batteries are so hard to find in the UK. Thanks for making this video, hopefully someone stocks it or ships it over here.

Very nice, I’m convinced. I won bc30r which is great in the woods but not so great on the road, the beam goes everywhere. For road use I own the Lupine SL AF which is the king of lights but super expensive.

If you check user reviews for these 2 lights the BC25R has far better reviews than the BC35R. BC35R 3 stars, BC25R 5 stars. You can nearly buy 3 BC25R for the price of one BC35R and from what I read people think the mount for the BC35R is terrible and the light is bulky.

Will the BC25R work with the remote switch that comes with the BC35R?

The BC25R does NOT work with a remote control

Thank you very much for this video review!!! I also discovered the Lupine SL AF yesterday. This is the BEST light money can buy these days. With LOW and HIGH beam. But it costs 500+ USD! This is new technology, using a projector like high end cars.
The Fenix BC35R is awesome and a good starting point to upgrade its components. I will buy it too.
The burst 1800lm "high beam" mode is good for alerting pedestrians and car drivers? Because of the cut off facula, probably they won't see the light. What do you think?
    Leandro.

I also own the BC30R there the "high beam" "is good for annoying others :-) The high beam of the BC35 is quite bright and highly visible but you can't blind anybody.

@@Velofil great, thank you very much! I'm between the BC30R and the BC35R. Which should I choose? I think the BC35R has a better distributed beam pattern on the floor, compared to the BC30R which has a thick beam pattern.
The high beam on the BC35R, besides it won't blind anyone, drivers are going to notice it?
      Thank you!

In general Fenix should be technically more efficient since reflectors are known to have higher efficiency than projectors with shields to create low beam.
