  • Acanthosis nigricans represents increased skin thickness on the neck!
    It is often associated with insulin resistance, diabetes, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) due to increased insulin-like growth factor (IGF) production. You may want to see your doctor first to make sure there is no underlying disease!
    Products Mentioned: www.amazon.com...
    The best treatments help to normalize the skin thickness by exfoliating or increasing cell turnover
    Retinoids, like differin gel, and exfoliants like amlactin are particularly helpful!

    I had these heavily in every crevice of my body where skin folds. Turns out it was due to high blood sugars/PCOS/Prediabetes. Started exercising, cutting back on processed carbs and sugars. I switched to only water and changed my diet. Everything immediately faded into a light brown instead of pitch dark black.

      @@simlebrity7177 For me personally, it took about a year for solid and consistent weight loss, half a year for skin changes, and 3-4 months for acne and bloating. Everyone's body responds to things differently though, so don't compare your journey to anyone else's journey and timeline. This runs in my family and a few of my other cousins are going through the same thing. They all saw changes but at different time-frames based on how hard and how much they were able to work. Everyone has different schedules/income/time available etc and aren't able to implement all the same changes, diet, exercises etc.

      I think that dark spots on the knees, elbows or other areas of the body is caused by friction. I used to always be on my knees cleaning (I’m always cleaning) or playing with my kids.
      I injured my knee in an accident and ended up having knee surgery. I was not and still not able to kneel and my knees are no longer dark, it went away. I have a bra that I love, I always wear it. The strap rubs on my shoulder and right wear it rubs I have a dark spot. In the winter I wear ankle boots to work. If my boot rubs on my ankle I end up getting a dark ring around the ankle. Once I stop wearing them the dark ring fades.

      It usually caused by insulin resistance which is related to diabetes and/or PCOS. The best way to treat this is to eat a low carb diet. Your blood sugar and insulin should eventually drop to normal levels. There are medications to help as well. You should double check with a doctor what your insulin, fasting blood sugar and A1c are. If you have issues with menstruation or hormonal type issues - have a gynecologist check you hormone levels and ovaries for PCOS. Your GP will be able to guide you since everyone is different.
      The exfoliants mentioned in the video should help topically. It’s not dirt, so scrubbing the skin doesn’t make a difference.

      Remember, in the video he said rarely associated. Although people with diabetes can get this, there are many MANY other reasons why someone has this, such as PCOS, not taking care of neck skin (exfoliating and washing and whatnot, the neck builds up sweat a lot more than the rest of the body, and being overweight will heighten this), etc.

    • @pavacrista5342
      @pavacrista5342 Год назад +3

      This might be true in case of white people (racially white) , but it's so common in people of color
      And I have seen diabetic patients who have been suffering from severe to moderate diabetes for 15-20 years and they have no dark spots at all. And I have had these dark patches since I was 8, and now I am 27, I don't have diabetes or PCOS, my menstrual cycle is perfect, and when I started getting these patches I was underweight if this is associated with diabetes I would have already died.

    Actually if noticed early and it does not limit itself to the neck! Regulating prediabetes and insulin resistance is also key besides topical treatments. Usually if it is diabetes the darkening cannot be reversed. Acanthus Nigricans does not limit itself to race too but it was first noticed to those population. Greetings from Athens Greece!

      It can happen for a lot of different reasons, different health problems, medications, and even hygiene can cause darkening of neck and lines and whatnot, (it can also be genetic sometimes) what I would suggest is take care of your neck skin the way you would you face, gentle exfoliate, wash, and moisturize. Don’t be too rough with it and try to have good posture, if after a few weeks it doesn’t start getting better than I would suggest going to your doctor to run some tests cause there may be an underlying cause. I know some medications cause this (not directly but the way they affect your organs will cause this), or just problems in general such as liver issues for example causes darkness on the neck, either in patches, bands or all over. Like for me when I was on heavy medication that was affecting my liver cause it was too much for it to handle it happened and after I was off the meds and my liver healed up it slowly went away and it’s not there anymore. Sorry for the ramble, just know what you’re going through and hoping my 2 cents could help out.

    • @sady1139
      @sady1139 2 года назад +1

      taesfilter also just read your second comment, neck skin is probably the thinnest skin on the body, it’s super delicate and sent I’ve so you gotta be gentle with it, scratching roughly will definitely make it worse/cause skin issues!
