Of all Olympic official films, this is one of the finest. It’s up there with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic film and Los Angeles, 1984.

i was in Kandahar Afghanistan during these Olympic Games and didnt get to see any of it due to my MOS (job) in the US Army...i was a Military Police Air Assault K-9 handler, so I was out patrolling the roads and providing security to our troops and our allies who were still being deployed into the area. the only thing i got to watch, because it was my "down time" or "time off" was the parade of nations for about an hour or so...just enough to see Canada to the USA enter the stadium then we got called up for a mission. however, i was in a building with our British and Aussie Allies sharing our map overlays with them during this time, and out of all the Olympic games i got to watch from the 70s to present, that time in 2002 in Kandahar with the Brits and Aussies watching together as allies as our nation's best came to compete in peace and friendship was the BEST Olympics by far for me. i dont think there was a dry eye in that room when we saw the American bombed flag, the Canadian, Aussie, Kiwi, Great Britain, or French flags being walked into the Olympic Stadium in Salt Lake. We all were hugging each other, and none of us had to say a word. you all were in the Stadium as one, and we Americans were with our closest Allies in the world cheering ALL ATHLETES on as one in Afghanistan. that kind of unity and peace is what we were fighting for for ALL the world. thank you for uploading this. i never got to see it then, but am so proud of ALL the ATHLETES who can call themselves "Olympians" win or lose, you represented your nations proudly, with honor, courage, and with respect. Thank you for coming to America to compete, as all of you are what makes America great. We aren't just "one nation" of people, but one people made up of MANY nations...some of you are even family to us Americans, especially from the UK, Germany, Italy, Greece, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the Pacific Islanders, Israel, Russia, China, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, and many more. your DNA runs through our American veins, and without you America wouldn't be who we are today. thank you....i hope to see your athletes compete again soon in the 2016 games in Rio de Genaro Summer Games! stay safe out there!

I was there. 6th grade. The Salt Lake games were so full of joy and warmth. Also some great skiing! 🇸🇪
Edit: Whoops, I meant 🇺🇲. But Sweden is dope too!

Next the Flag from the Trade Towers my favorite part was When they incorporated the Native American Tribes into the opening as well as when the Leaders gave Members of countries a blessing.

A historic Olympics for Australia. Never won gold before and yet we prevailed. Steven Bradbry and Alisa Camplin's performances will never be forgotten!
And plus I know you wont read this but you guys should consider making Olympic films for the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics

Very moving. I went to a few of the sports and remember them well. The back ground on the athletes journey make this a very good film. Not just statistics. Very well done and worth the watch.

Very weak official film if you ask me
    · Nothing about Simon Amman's huge upset wins at ski jumping
    · Nothing about the tighest ski jumping team event in history
    · Nothing about snowboarding halfpipe, the start of an era
    · Nothing about Sarah Hughes and Irina Slutskaya TYING for gold in figure skating (Hughes won because she won the freeskating part)
    · Nothing about the hugely controversial pairs competition in figure skating

Been checking out a few of these Olympic films .
The American guy voicing these films must have some sort of deal with the IOC and it looks like he makes makes these films solely for a US TV audience and no one else ie very dumbed down and cringe worthy .
I guess he must now be retired or hopefully dead .
He isn't missed by many of the audience here

    • @4600norm
      @4600norm 6 лет назад +5

"hopefully dead"-that's a bit harsh, don't you think? I would add that the voice-over person is extremely unlikely to be the one writing the content.
Also, don't assume the US has a corner on the stupidity market. Just take a look around you at the rest of the world and you will realize that.
