    Hi Rob, thanks a lot for these videos, man! I wanted to ask you which of the two would be a better option for an MBA program for a recently graduated & international student like myself - Deakin or RMIT?

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад +1

      Both good programs from what I know. To me, an MBA is really about the specialisation you’re hoping to have at the end, and the relevant industry linkages that a degree program has related to that specialisation.
      Eg. If your thing is supply chain, I’d completely ignore overall rankings if there were a different MBA that had a kick arse supply chain specialisation and internship opportunity with a relevant company. That’s where you’ll build your network the most and get best bang for buck.

    Hi I'm planning on taking an undergraduate for osteopathy, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on which campus would be best for an international student. The three campuses I've narrowed down to are RMIT, SCU, and VU. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on which campus would be best, quality wise, budget wise, and over all the most awesome place to study in among the three. Thank you!

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад +1

      Oooooo you’ve touched a subject close to my heart with this one because I’ve had a fair bit to do with these osteo programs over the years.
      So I’ve got a LOT to say about these programs!
      Give me a couple of days and I’ll put together a specific video on this. It will be rough but there’s a lot to cover!

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад +1

      Sorry, I haven’t had a chance to do this yet so wanted to write a response.
      There are only 3 osteo programs in Australia and all have their strengths in terms of both practice and research.
      I’d suggest you have a serious look at SCU as a first choice.
      My rationale is based on talking with practicing osteos. Class sizes are smaller at SCU. From what I’ve heard, class sizes at RMIT have also grown a LOT over the past few years.
      Small class sizes mean more dedicated attention from teachers and more practical hands on experience.
      From what I’ve heard, Melbourne is also pretty saturated with osteos, making it harder to build clientele afterwards.
      I’ve visited many osteos over the years and I’ve found the SCU grads have a more rounded skill set - they can be mechanically strong, but also have a sensitivity, an ability to “feel”, that is less common in grads from elsewhere imo
      If it were me (and believe me I’ve thought about being an osteo sometimes!) I’d go to SCU and then look to open a clinic somewhere outside the major capitals: the Sunshine Coast, Perth, Gold Coast etc.
      Just my 2 cents though.

    There are many factors such as university rankings, but when you enter the workforce, does the university you went to make a difference in how you are treated? I'm looking for a master's degree in international studies, but which one is the best among RMIT, Monash, Griffith, and Western Australia?
    I am an international student, so I would appreciate it if you could tell me.

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  2 года назад +2

      The university you studied at, rather than your skills and experience, is only of minor importance in the workforce in Australia.
      Employers are far more concerned with how well you "fit" the company culture, as well as your soft skills, than purely what and where you studied. Of course, for very technical jobs, like engineering, having the "right" degree is important too.
      I'd encourage you to look at which degree program attracts you the most.
      In the end, if you're happy and really engaged in your studies because they are most aligned with your interests, you'll do better. A degree that you LOVE at a "lowly" ranked uni is still better than a degree you HATE at a "highly" ranked uni.
      All of the unis you list have various strengths in the international studies space and I like each of them for different reasons. Check out the course details (i.e. exactly what subjects are part of the degree) plus the extracurricular options (leadership, internships, overseas study, social life etc) before making a decision.

      RMIT would also be high up my list because of the extensive industry linkages and overseas study opportunities.

    The vast majority of tertiary education providers expect students to pay course fees, some of which are quite expensive. Therefore it is reasonable for students to expect that the course content is presented by formally qualified staff. Why does RMIT have unqualified staff presenting courses to aspiring students ? It is a fact that some teaching staff do not possess formal qualifications. RMIT should audit the qualifications of ALL teaching staff to ensure they are formally qualified, or dramatically reduce the course fees presented by unqualified staff.

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  3 года назад +5

      Hi Stacey, I’ll leave this comment up if you can substantiate it in some way.
      Australian universities are regulated by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
      They are audited for compliance.
      RMIT is no different to other unis in its requirements to comply. If you have concerns, you should probably report them to TEQSA.

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад

      The automotive program at RMIT is one of the best in Oz from what I know. I guess it's an interesting degree since we don't actually build cars in Australia anymore....
      This is the sort of area where I believe it's an advantage if you can add some sort of extra specialisation. For example, if you're doing automotive engineering, also having some idea about sustainability and electric vehicles (although that's probably covered off in courses these days). But also things like IOT (internet of things) or even cybersecurity. All of these systems need to be secured into the future.
      Basically the more unique your skill set, the more likely it is that you get picked up for a job because your exact skill set is harder to find.

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад

      Nursing is a fairly standard curriculum across most universities because it is an accredited subject. That means all students at all universities need to complete almost the same work because they must be accredited by the national nursing board at the end in order to get a job.
      So the thing to look at here is student satisfaction, teaching resources etc - you can do that on compared.edu.au.
      RMIT has excellent extracurricular options, like overseas study, work integrated learning, leadership and other options - being able to complete those alongside your studies is both fun and advantageous.
      It is a huge uni, so the thing to be aware of is that it will have larger class sizes than unis like ACU and Notre Dame that have excellent health programs and smaller classes (but that aren't as strong with extracurricular options).

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  6 месяцев назад

      G'day! Thanks for this message.
      I'm not familiar with the BITS-RMIT collaboration, but I can provide a general comment and a few of my own opinions.
      Firstly, the Australian higher education system overall is ranked amongst the strongest in the world. 85% of our universities are in the "top 1000", a way higher percentage than the UK (~35%) or USA (~15%). Our system has strong quality controls and Government oversight - it doesn't mean that there are no problems, or no bad courses, but the university system as a whole has good integrity measures.
      So basically every Australian university will provide a quality education.
      Australia has a self-appointed group of universities called the Group of Eight. They are broadly considered the most "prestigious", largely because they do the most research (which features heavily in international rankings). However, if you look at student satisfaction, Go8 unis sometimes rank very poorly based on Australian Government data (go to compared.edu.au for student satisfaction data based on Australian Government surveys).
      As for RMIT, it's not Go8, but it has an excellent engineering program. I can't talk about India, but here in Australia, nobody would look badly at you if you had an engineering degree from RMIT... quite the opposite, in some sub-disciplines it is amongst the strongest in the country!
      So it all depends on what you're hoping to achieve with your degree. Check out Compared.edu.au and look at RMIT's sub-disciplines to see how they perform against other Australian and global universities.
      If you're looking to work in India, and RMIT's reputation isn't strong, then that's something to consider for you.
      From my point of view, if I had a son or daughter thinking of studying engineering at RMIT, I certainly wouldn't discourage them from it.
      Hope that helps!

      I’d suggest reading about each of those departments at each uni and looking at what courses they offer to see which one appeals the most. If you’re not yet decided, perhaps it’s best to look for the uni that is good at both so you can make up your mind once you’ve started.

    RMIT University is a quite an ambiguous and amusing educational institution. RMIT does offer some very good courses presented by skilled lecturers, however it also offers some seemingly obscure courses presented by unqualified staff. It is a fact that lecturing staff possess a diverse range of qualifications. These qualifications range from degree qualified lecturers through to unqualified lecturers, who do not possess any formal qualifications, including diploma or trade qualifications. I am personally aware of at least one pretentious staff member, who intentionally describes himself as a “University Lecturer” outside of work and yet he does not possess any formal qualifications. He enjoys portraying himself as a sophisticated, enlightened, intelligent academic, when in reality he is simply an unqualified TAFE Teacher, who ironically professes expertise in various subjects. This person once stated, “anyone can get a degree”. My question to this person, “If that’s the case, where’s your degree ?”

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  3 года назад +4

      I’m not sure what to make of this.
      RMIT is dual sector so teaches everything from Cert iii courses and up.
      Just because someone doesn’t have a degree doesn’t mean they don’t have relevant valuable experience to share.
      That might not be so in the case you’re talking about.
      Unis typically set themselves benchmarks of how many lecturers are PhD qualified, Masters qualified etc.
      But in niche areas maybe that’s difficult (or irrelevant).
      I’d always be careful about drawing a generalisation from a sample of 1.
