The first SAHB song I heard was "There's no lights on the Christmas tree mother they;re burning big Louie tonight" after that I was hooked. I had seen Tear Gas several times in Buckhaven Miners Welfare in the late 60's probably and knew that they were a good live band but this took them to a different level. Rip Alex you are sorely missed.
I saw Teargas around the same time (1969/70) in a small hall in St Andrews. They were good. Then six years later the big one!! - The Who and SAHB playing at Celtic Park in 1976.
What a memory, after SAHB broke up Alex reformed a band, the drummer, Paul, played in a band at my 21st birthday, my best mate at the time, Mick, became tour manager and called me to say: " we need a roadie and minder". So off I went on a tour of Germany, Plus gigs in London and back to Germany to Nurnberg. Great times I'll never forget.
I discovered Alex Harvey on the internet as a young man. He was performing with his rock band playing a song called I've been Framed at a festival,and it blew me away,big time!!!!😎
Having grown up in the same town as Ted and Hugh McKenna (and briefly going out with their cousin as a teenager) , I had the wonderful good fortune of meeting Alex in the Ivanhoe Hotel , after one of his many gigs I went to at The Apollo , Glasgow . He was full of knowledge and advice about the music industry . It was truly a wonderful night . RIP, Alex , Ted , and Hugh 🖤
He was very charismatic. People would obey his commands without question. A bit like being around Hitler. Or Jesus Christ. But he was unfailingly kind, to fans.

Good ones, check out Vic Chesnutt too, I guess he's not a "rocker" ir you wanna get genre specific, more singer / songwriter, but man his band rocked once in a while. the live version of 'Everything I Say' gets really heavy. And 'Flirted with you all my life' is one of the darkest songs I've ever heard. Also he was in a wheelchair, and still rocked as hard as he could.

I saw SAHB open for Jethro Tull,here in Jackson,MS,in 1975. I had never heard of them. I was so impressed and in awe,that I walked out of the Tull set 3 songs in...SAHB could not be topped in winning the crowd over. Bought the live album he next day.

There is also an annual one day festival (SahbRock) , currently in its 14th year , held every October . It's current venue is Ivory Blacks in Glasgow .
Yes I had no problem with the ‘Next’ cover, it was brilliant. Delilah doesn’t have enough substance as a song to warrant Alex Harvey’s attention. Just my opinion of course.
I think people generally liked seeing ‘Delilah’ played on TV etc. A) It was done in a humorous tongue in cheek way, and B) It was a kick in the pants to the old 'heartbreak' songs sung seriously by the likes of Tom Jones etc . That song by Alex probably kicked off the punk era.

Alex went to pieces when Bill Fehilly was killed in a plane crash. He said "My Captain, is dead". After losing the brother whom he taught to play guitar, and so feeling to blame for this, it was just too much sorrow to take, losing Bill as well. He took to drink in a big way and I feel that he just wanted to die really. I visited him after his first heart attack and he decided just to get up and to carry on working until he died. I did not like the way Trudy spoke to him sometimes. If he said something a bit paranoid, she would say, "We believe it because you believe it Alec". Like some holier than thou psychiatrist, you know? She was a mother figure, like Yoko Ono was with John Lennon.

Why did they skip Rock Workshop. That was the band Alex was in before SAHB. They released an good album in 1970.
