My mom was originally going to be a teacher but dropped out fairly last minute to become a nurse. She got bullied by all her teacher friends for dropping out, but that is probably my mom’s best decision. Being a teacher is AWFUL. You work far harder than almost any job, have to relive school, and get paid scraps while being treated like shit.
The saddest part is that everyone, even teachers themselves accepted the fact. I dont get why teachers are appreciated more. I definitely wont be here without the help of some of my past teachers.
@@aoyuki1409 I still don’t know why anyone chooses to be a teacher. Like teaching the future generations sounds cool, but it isn’t worth all the garbage that comes with it. And really, if they just paid teachers a good salary, none of these would be issues. But in the future, I would rather work multiple small jobs instead of the massive trash heap of being a teacher.
@@TJ-hg6op thats what i meant, teaching was never an easy job. In WW1 era they'd only let professors teach. And they're paid well. Nowadays teacher standards are so low that even the younger generations figured out the cheat code to exploit the modern education system. Everyone seem to have terrible opinions of teachers, and tbh its partly their fault the awful teachers but the decent teachers that are able to turn garbage to gold wouldn't be able to do it properly today.
Exactly, no matter how much I would get paid, I'll never become a teacher, you'll be hated by every kid in your class if you don't act "cool" (be a cool teacher basically), you have to endure bs from other teachers and fake being their friend because when you become a teacher you forcefully need to get along with every teacher. Have you ever seen 2 teachers not like each other or not get along? There are a lot who do, but they will never show it publicly (and if they do, that's something extremely rare I have not yet seen myself, since I still go to school), because even if a teacher doesn't like another coworker of theirs, they have to endure and fake being nice to them since it's a job where you'll see each other every day, you're in front of a bunch of kids all day AND you'll need to forcefully work together on a lot of occasions for some event crap or whatever, so you can't just not get along with them. Oh, and imagine how many life-skills you'll have as a teacher, none, absolutely 0 life skills and knowledge about the world and how society mostly works. You get out of school just to get in again and stay there for the rest of your work days, just being around a bunch of unmotivated or extremely agitated kids (depending on if you teach to children or teens) and adults who have had their sanity drained by all the bs having to forcefully get along with you (and the same for you), enduring the school's bs, the teachers's bs, the kids's bs, enduring every single type of bs possible.
And let's also not talk about how you'll contribute to a system that I will describe with all of my sincerity, just pure shit, literally the only way I can describe it as it is, just pure 100% shit, the only thing it does is just force you to memorize a bunch of things (that btw, it's been proven you'll literally forget them right away after you take the exam) and kill the natural curiosity you're born with as a human, you'll be contributing to this pure shit system AND... if you're teaching to kindergarten or elementary, you'll just be enduring a lot of bs from them which is born just from their nature to be agitated all the time and if you're teaching to middle schoolers or high schoolers you'll just be enduring their bs that is born from their boredom and lack of motivation since they'll probably be more than tired to learn stuff they didn't even choose to, since by that time they already killed all of your natural curiosity, thus you'll have even less than just "no desire to learn".
Now that I've described all of that, THAT'S what you'll be dealing with if you work as a teacher, and if you do until you retire, you'll deal with that for most of your life... can you even imagine how will that affect your mental health? Because I genuinely can't. This is literally the reason why bad teachers exist, a lot of them just come in to get the job and say "ooohh teaching is my dream job, I want to teach stuff to kids/teens!" but they don't realize how extremely tiring that is, most of those teachers are probably the ones in your school who look like they were born uncapable of feeling happiness and/or empathy and are what most people would call bad teachers or just assholes in general.
In conclusion, being a teacher is the best way to get your mental health drained in a matter of months, or even weeks I'd say, personally I wouldn't become a teacher not even for 1 million dollars, which yeah, also reminds me of how 1 million dollars a month should be what you should get paid for, for enduring all of that bs, also needless to say the average salary is far away from that.
Sorry for that longass rant...
TL;DR: Never ever become a teacher, literally drains away your sanity.

The Arts major one is true but its also kinda sad because of my friend. He used to be a very good character designer / illustrator at art school who had dreamt of entering the comics business. He often worked freelance and earned for himself taking commissions. Years later I heard that he had already been working as a janitor in a local fast food chain, and when I asked him about his current job he said that his commission requests start to dwindle because people started to use AI for their projects and his gig can't sustain him any longer.
As a Fine arts graduate, I am already considering taking second jobs that are no longer related to my work, such as office work or in the academe, should my career as a graphic artist would fail because of businesses prioritizing AI over skilled designers, photographers, animators, etc. I'm even considering entering the military if all else fails.
I'm even thinking of using both my friend and my own experience in the art industry as an inspiration to write my own novel. I think that there are no stories in novels that focus around the real hardships modern artists actually face as well as the existential dread of losing jobs.
UPDATE: A month before I wrote this comment, I graduated in Fine Arts with highest honors (Magna cum laude) and as of now I am freelancing as a graphic designer for many small businesses around town. I tried to apply for the military, however, I did not pass their initial screening because of a recently-found scoliosis which I never realized I had. I might be considering a part-time job as a school librarian or become a schoolteacher instead. I have no interest in running for politics despite my openly-socialist beliefs.
Damn that would make for one powerful book
Fuck ai
Man, at this point you should take inspiration from a certain Austrian, and should join politics and declare AI as non pure being.
What would be the title? I would read your shit.
@@stinkjsshitpostaccount6744 Don't have one yet, still thinking about it. But the rough synopsis is that it would center around three young friends who are art students who dream of going big in the art industry and they share a vision of a future where people enjoy art, all while facing a harsh and morally-bankrupt society and a corrupt art industry overshadowed by AI and corporatism. They somehow would still hold on to their dreams by any means necessary, even if putting themselves in the life of crime to survive.
This rough synopsis is based on actual accounts of poor people in my country (The Philippines), where people will literally do anything to survive and make their dreams of having a wealthy life come true even if they would resort to crimes such as drug-running, robbery or prostitution. While my planned book would be a comedic satire of the art industry and AI, I also plan to portray the morally-bankrupt society they live in. I'm planning to inspire this on Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" story to give my characters a big slap of reality check in the face about the true environment of the modern art industry.

from what ive observed from successful modern artists is that, in order to succeed, you have to learn how to market yourself online/in person and wear other hats to have your work seen and appreciated by others.
nowadays, its difficult for artists to be hired by companies. that might change in the future since AI art might be seen as a liability since it can have a potential for lawsuits. idk, thats just the optimist in me speaking.
another point, the reason why art schools are important is not just the education but to make important connections that could help you land jobs and such. your teachers probably worked in big companies and could recommend you for hire if youre friendly with them and are actually good with utilising the funadamentals of your craft.
being an artist is a difficult job and, if youre reading this and you want to become a successful artist, i hope you succeed.

As a philosophy major, we’re more likely to try and convince you that there is no such thing as free will or something; my favorite go to is the conversation of “there is no such thing as true altruism/selflessness”
prove it
as another philosophy major, my first response to an argument that altruism and selflessness doesn't exist is that the entire dichotomy is misleading in the first place, and the terms should really be redefined.
@averagedemocrat9546 No action is done consciously without the self. Unless you are forced to do something, you do everything that you consciously do because there is a desire within you that you fulfill through completing an action. The goal of completing that desire within you is selfish, or would fit under the category as selfish in relative terms
@kshproductions7996 I partially agree; there is a false dichotomy for sure because there isn’t any true conscious selfless action, but I don’t think the term needs to be redefined; I think that relatively speaking, the term works fine, and the debunking of true altruism is more like a cool party trick; it can impress and confuse some people for sure, but it isn’t really meaningful, unless you’re trying to figure something out that needs that mode of thinking
And to it i respond: "Good to know"
As someone in psychology i want to slam my head again the wall everytime someone think i'm some kind of telepath

I think philosophy is rad, but I don’t see how I can get money off it.
I’m Aisian, and when a math major classroom burns down, I call that shit liberation.
Being an Asian, the last meme pretty much summed on how I felt during school. It was a pleasant feeling being heads and shoulder above others, finding it easy while everyone else seems to be struggling does make you feel good about yourself.
That's great! I'm a math major and before college I always wondered whether the stereotype was true (there aren't lots of Asians where I live) and turns out it is hahaha
Lmao nurses feels like the most studious and the least studious at the same time. Most of the ones ones I'd meet would go out on these crazy outings but when I saw them study they seemed to have the best methods. It was weird hah. It's also one of those majors a lot of people pick if they dont know what to do. At least where I studied. Same with Pysch.
Art majors imo are probably the happiest-ish. Even if you dont get a lot from commissions and all that it feels like they get a lot of freedom thanks to the internet. Got a friend that helped making a videogame and overall just makes a decent living just drawing stuff for people. She does have a part time but it's a good one. She's honestly living a chill life. The most stressful part of her art stuff is probably just dealing with social media. Cuz ya know you need to have a social media presence to get commissions and overall just market yourself.
And do keep in mind there a lot of different art majors. I'm not talking of the normal ass one lol. She majored in Digital Art in an Art University and got to work on a few videogame projects with other students. So you'd have animator students, coder students, etc. I remember wanting to go to that Uni as well but it was too far away.
As someone who tried to pursue a Computer Science major and dropped out, it’s 100% accurate
Sometimes the accuracy is scary.

Well, you did something I couldn't.
My mom has a CS degree but never used it lol

As a computer science major I love being better than other people
The superior ones
What do you guys even di
@@linguine4500 To put it bluntly, we use mathematical thinking to solve problems faster, better and more efficiently than other ppl. Ex, imagine having to manually fill out an excel sheet when a cs major can just create a bot to do for them while they sit back and sip coffee.
Ok, but to achieve that you have to stay away from all of the mathematicians, engineers and physicists.
For a feeling of superiority, I recommend physics with a cs minor or sth.
Ngl, the Art one is spot on. But at the same time, I'm seeing a 20 year old French girl working in an animation studio, giving portfolio reviews, and going out with friends like she's got plenty of money.
Meanwhile, my 30 yr old ass graduated with a BFA 6 years ago in the U.S. never got a decent animation job, works in a warehouse now, and doesn't even own a home or have time to make friends. So there is something going on.
i’m planning to go into digital art, and probably something like game design/animating, and if it don’t work out, i’ll just draw hentai or something 😂
As a computer science major, and even our IT, our batch is currently ruining commom stereotypes in our courses. Pretty funny ngl.

Good luck flippin burgers with philosophy and it's pretty challenging to find a job after finishing psychology, most people I know who finished psychology are working in a different type of field. If you're genuinely passioned about those things go for it but also think about the future.

Taking computer science, but our college isn't the best quality, so I haven't learned much. Now I just do furry art commissions because it pays well and is like "compensation" for the time I waste trying to "learn" something IT related
