- On 5 September 2003 Anita Mui publicly announced she had cervical cancer.
She held a series of eight shows at the Hong Kong coliseum in November 2003.
She made a symbolic act of ‘marrying the stage’ which was accompanied by her hit song ‘Song of the Setting Sun’ (The theme song to ‘A Better Tomorrow 3: Love & Death in Saigon’).
She died on 30 December 2003, aged 40.
Who’s listening and crying their eyes out. Symbolic in every way. March 18, 2024
I am. so serene yet powerfully moving. I remember listening to this song for the first time right before she died. Beautiful. Anita. and her message. Rest in peace, heaven. ❤🧡💛
The dr I work for just showed me this today (April 13, 2024) and my eyes were full of tears. Absolutely beautiful and sad😓💕
April 26 2024(Friday).Got here while watching drunken master 2 in she plays mother of Jackie Chan's character.
I'm Italian and Black American, but I grew up with many Cantonese speaking Chinese people in the San Francisco Bay Area. Listening to her music gave me hope, and still does today. She was so graceful and strong. Knowing what a sense of humor, inner beauty and love she brought to her friends and family along with the world, it's saddening, but of course, we just miss her.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Here Crying 😭
She was about to die and still managed the strength to sing this last song as a goodbye present. We will miss you Anita Mui
An unforgottable legend . she looked happy, successful , been on the top, but had suffered too much pain in her phase of life journey. From been bullied @ abused by her mother who bled her to dry, never had luck in love relationship , got cancer etc.. I'm crying to listen to this song. Back in 80s , 90s, she was on tv here and there. Upon listening this song,I'm imagining her's smiling behind the sunset 😘 Anita Mui
What a significant evening in HK pop history. She was one of the greatest, can never be replaced.
Nope and yep . She was the greatest and she will be forever.
This is truly a heartbreaking moment. Anita and her legacy will forever live on til the end of time.
Anita Mui's artistry and strong character left a lasting legacy in Hong Kong- extending to the world. Here, she sang not just with her voice but with her entire soul. She is such an inspiration! ❤
So sad seeing her sing this song. She will forever be missed.
She deserved to be loved the way she wanted to be 💔 Forever an icon.
she was my childhood and connection to hk and my mother. she was my mothers favourite singer and i grew up listening to her music when my mother would put her record on the record player. 😥
Her speechs made me cry... everytime...
I miss her so much. She was ever present in my mostly Cantonese childhood Chinatown movie theaters of San Francisco ❤. I used to play her cassette tapes in the 1990s in my Walkman.
The good die young. Anita Mui is immortalised in so many ways.
RIP Anita ! May your glory last forever. Thank you for showing the world the true spirit of höng kongers! This is so sad but within we find light in the darkness!! The world will never forget u!!! Anita - you will always be remembered- your generosity, your sincerity and kindness -
Music transcends langauage. That was a beautiful song. Even if there wasn't any English subtitles, I was moved by this.
Legend! So sad the 2021 biopic failed to encapsulate her aura as powerfully as it was in real life.
Surely the movie couldn be that bad
The movie is not so bad and has the merit to be made. Of course you can't tell her story by the inside but we can try to have an idea of it. I am working on a french subtilted version of the movie , only to share my passion for Anita Mui because i would like everyone knows this fabulous artist and human being. Just never forget her.
a professional to the end
years since u were gone, can't forget u Anita Mui. Till today i still listen to your songs especially Song of the Setting Sun 😢😢
Anita sang her blues. With ❤️
Dearly missed by all. With ❤️
I've no words. Anita Mui was such a generous person. Her voice, her presence were so precious. Thank you so much for sharing this in YT. I cry listening the song but in same time i am so happy.
I love her songs but haven't listened to them for years. I was surfing on YT this evening and ran into her songs. Then I looked for her final performance. Her words and music are as moving as I listened years ago. Then I found out she passed away exactly 20 years today! Coincidence?
Urgh iconic and forever beautiful
Such a talent with charisma
คิดถึงเจ้ เหมย เลสลี่จาง เสมอ !!!!! ป่านนี้ คงได้เจอกันแล้วมั้ง ;) คิดถึงเสมอนะ ทั้งคู่
Cant imagine mass crying at the concert.. maybe the concert hall flooding
what a finale 😭
love her songs and personality💞
The moment she turns to wave goodbye from the top of the stairs, and the picture turns black and white... tears poured from my eyes.
This year planning to go to Hong Kong to give homage to this great soul.
Hope you have a great time in Hong Kong 👍
What beautiful performance. Such an amazing star and human being. May her memory long endure ❤❤❤😥

Very sad to hear her say bye bye😭 R.I.P. Queen Anita Mui
What a legend…
I only just learned about Anita after looking up more info having watched 'The Heroic Trio'. Having now gone down a rabbit hole online, wow - what a woman. Many thanks for this upload & translation, i've only known of her for a few hours but it's already clear she made her mark on the world.
You're welcome! She certainly did! A very strong lady! She was a fantastic actress and singer, check out her other work! My favourite film of her's is Rouge but she is probably best known internationally for her films with Jackie Chan (Miracles, Drunken Master 2 and Rumble in the Bronx).
It was so sad. Rest in peace Anita HE Queen Anita Mu❤💔🖐
Keep Rest in internal peace Anita, this clip made me crying 😢 for really
It was so sad. Rest in peace Anita
So much sadness, rip Anita 💔
She deserved to have had a Child and a Husband
so she's reunited with her sister and her father, I forgot that she passed until I visited the heritage museum where some of her stuff is there, than visiting her grave which has somehow made me a Fan of Anita MUI
one last pop HK star!
Rest in peace, beautiful Anita.
I remember her/first saw her in Rumble in the Bronx, had no idea who she was/how prolific she was.. RIP Anita, hopefully you've found happiness where you are...
what a legend💗💗💗🌸🌸🌸🌸💗💗💗🌸🌸🌸💗💗💗🌸🌸🌸💗🌸
I completely forgot this actress went to the heritage museum where things of hers are, than her grave after that I’ve started listening to this song 🎵 which has become my favourite she may be gone, but I’m sure she would want to be forgotten

Forever loved....
😭😭
😭
She even made joke about Beckham since there was rumours about him caught cheating with someone in 2003. Also so sad she never be with Andy Lau even their last movie together, she wants play his on-screen girlfriend but turns out that role went to Sarah Ng.
Jackie anita
Let this be a lesson, at the top she was alone. Women need family to be remembered, loved when they are grown
The first lady gaga. RIP
How are you in heaven?
Wondering whether she died in Andy arm in the hospital?
Dead month later
I wish i could go back in time and marry her. And catch her cancer before it was too late. She never got to be married. I loved her movies and her songs. Even though song of sunset was a rip off to masahiko kondo. I wish she were alive still. Its been 20 years since she passed. I was in hs when it happened.
A simple wish but not everyone is lucky to have it granted.. 🩶
😭
