Started running 3-4 times a week at 32. It has become an absolute necessity in my life. Had I started running at 22, it would have been a different life. Kudos !
Started in January this year at 31 and it is the best thing i've ever done for myself. My blood is flowing much better, skin is glowing, belly fat is being lost and I just feel a lot more level headed and at peace. I run a minimum 5km every day. Only take a break when it rains heavily.
Fascinating stuff, I regularly lift weights and occasionally run when its ok weather. Definitely noticed that running is far more beneficial for me mentally than lifting. I should start running more often
It is. As someone who lifts frequently, I acknowledge that lifting is kind of an "anti exercise" in that most people think lifting weights counts as exercise and gives you all the benefits, when in reality it doesnt. It doesnt make your heart stronger, it doesnt make you feel better, it pretty much just LOOKS like hard work. Using a combination of running with my mental health medication I am happier than 90% of people, I always feel good. I run every day as soon as I get up, and I dont have bad days any more. Literally.
i've gotten it from swimming as well. more times from swimming actually than running. i am led to believe, anecdotally of course, that its the 'steady state' your body is in that probably triggers all the aforementioned benefits, i would be surprised if its actually linked strictly/exclusively to the activity of running.
@@oxxy6678 Lifting can make you feel better but generally I agree. Very true, and that’s partly because in that hour (or however many minutes) you are running you are NOT thinking about your problems or issues, you are probably thinking ‘gosh my heart is burning; ouch this hurts so bad; I can’t breathe!’ - and in those minutes your issues/problems are out of your head even for that one hour in 24 hours. OUTSIDE!! you have to run outside. the only time i reach that little zen state ur talking about, its when the wind is blowing, its beautiful weather and scenery is good like around a lake. running inside is boring
Funny, I'm just reading Anna Karenina (easier because of the running? dunno, but it is zero pain), and Tolstoy actually describes the "flow state"/zen-experience of one main character, picking up mowing (with a scythe) for the entire day. Basically, don't stop and it will just happen, since you will just run longer, further, more often without having to drag yourself, give that 3 months, and it'll be like, "Oh, I forgot I'm running.
