Great information. Thank you for sharing it!😊❤ I started with the hardware store soft solder and low temp soldering iron. I tried different fluxes, and different silver solders. 🤦♀️😅😂 What a mess!! I was so frustrated, but I just hadn't found the right information yet.
Well, I guess you could say I learned a lot, 😂 😉 and I ruined several irons before I finally got an adjustable temp iron, silvergleem solder, and novacan flux. Lol, helps to have the proper tools and equipment. I have several of your books, and so enjoy learning this wonderful craft. Thank you for sharing and teaching what you know.😊❤

Thanks for the information! Very useful! I just wanted to ask how fragile are the jewellery you can make with soft solder? Or will it melt in a hot summer day? (I know it sounds silly but it’s an honest question) ❤
You can use soft solder on glass, wood, shells, some hard plastics, but you must be cautious when doing so that you do not melt or burn the wood or plastic or break the glass. No it will not melt that easily - More like 375-400° F

Someone told me i should have separate soldering irons for lead free and lead solder? Is that true? I clean my iron thoroughly between the two. What do you think?
I honestly think that’s overkill! If you’re cleaning well in between, I think there’s very very little risk. Understand also that even with modern day dinnerware that you buy at any store today will have some amount of lead in it. They are just recommended guidelines set by the government that it has to be under a certain amount to be safe. So, my short answer would be that you could do that if you want, but I don’t think it’s entirely necessary. I think some folks can go exuberantly overboard and this may be an example of that. Now, would I be going back-and-forth constantly, hard no. Then I would definitely have two separate ones. Use your best judgment!

@@nygrl6102 I forgot to add - you can always just have two tips and change them out. You don't need an entirely separate iron.
