I can't believe how effective this exercice is ! Being practicing it since July now, and it improved my seat a lot ! No more bouncing in the sitting trot, and I am now able to slow my seat against the movement in the trot. Thank you for sharing

Hey guys 🌸 Really enjoy the Pilates classes! Thank you for stressing how import it can be to be able to feel your body and connect with it. A thing I found with myself and many others: it is easier to get the pelvis tilt lying down on the ground but when you do it upright or in the saddle, often the shoulders tend to tilt forward ever so slightly. I solved this for me by doing a tiny step in between: after doing the tilt successfully on the ground, I did a control while sitting on a hard surface so you can really feel your pelvis tilting. Experiment with that and try to not collapse in your shoulders. When I got that, I sat with my back against a door or wall, and you really can learn to tilt the pelvis but not collapsing forward in the shoulders! I blame sitting in front of a computer during work for that collapse in the upper body😉. And by getting ‚control’ of your spine and pelvis it can feel really powerful! Without have super big muscles or anything!

Thank you for doing this. I think this is the missing piece for my riding improvement. I've been strengthening my horse's fitness and now I need to do more for my own. At 68 years old I need to take it slowly so I don't pull any muscles and I think this is the ticket.

Watching this with horrible muscle ache in my legs from yesterday's riding. Back hurting too. I didn't even think I had done that much. Now can barely get down the stairs. I'll need to practice this. I used to do lots of Pilates, but got lazy during the pandemic. Thanks for the reminder to get moving more again!

So i have a condition called Ehlers Danlos and i find it really difficult to understand how to move my body because it doesnt work how other peoples bodies work. This video is the first time i actually understood how to move my pelvis and what i'm supposed to do with it when I'm riding! i always hear 'sit back' or 'open your hip' and that never made sense, my pelvis is a solid bone, it aint opening. I GET IT NOW! thank you!

I can personally vouche for the effectiveness of this series of exercises. I'm a middle aged guy, and I was using a personal trainer to try to tighten up my core - and the trainer didn't even know I rode and take a lesson once a week. But over a period of just weeks really, my riding trainer began to remark on my improved posture, seat, and mechanics. I thought it was just practice, and maybe it is partially, but hindsight is 20/20 and now I attribute it mostly to this work - the isolation between my core and my inputs had improved and I hadn't noticed. It took a trained eye to see it.

Great news! One of the main corrections my riding coach always gives me is “lift your hands higher…. lift your hands higher….. lift your hands higher….” After watching this video I realized I totally tilt my pelvis back while riding. Since the video I’ve been really focusing on, and practicing, keeping my pelvis turned under. I found this helps me keep my shoulder blades back. Today at the end of my lesson, my coach said, “Good job with your hands today.”

This is amazing ! I have a muscle disease that causes my muscles to stiffen without realizing it, making me unstable in the saddle. When I realize that my muscles are stiffening I correct myself, so this is a nice exercise that is not too heavy and intensive for someone with a muscle disease.

I have been pretty weak and haven’t had good health for riding but I’m excited to try this exercises to try and improve my riding because I don’t want to stop riding again.

@@YourRidingSuccess not yet, im only 6 weeks post delivery and cant do anything yet that requires stomach muscles but im watching and hopefully another week or so and I can start physical exercise. It’s just so nice to have found a guide to help, even watching the vlogs makes me feel hopeful!

Thank you so much. As I previously commented on another video, I have returned to riding (dressage) after 40 years out of the saddle. The spinal injuries I have improved significantly once I started to ride again (was in a wheelchair for a while) and was specifically looking for these kinds of exercises! You're literally an all rounder :)

Can you do a demo to translate the shape of the pelvis against the floor to how that looks in the saddle? I find that its easy on the floor, but that in the saddle I want to tense my bum to where I lose the relaxed element in the back. Thanks Alicia! You are my hero!

Important to note that this is not meant to be a permanent posture. The spine is naturally curved - there should be a slight curve in the lower back during the normal course of the day.

This helped a lot! I do the pelvic tilt whenever I do ab exercises, but didn’t know that’s the correct pelvic position for riding! Never knew quite where to place it in the saddle. Thank you! 🥰

Yoga, pilates, dance and martial arts are a great tool for gaining body awareness. So many times riders think they are doing one thing but are doing another. Plus the added flexibility means less likely yo get injured.Not sure pilates if for me. I am more of a martial arts perdon. I can tell when I was not able to go to class 9gyms closed ) my position sufferred.

70 yrs. old and just getting back into riding! Needless to say nothing bends the way it use to. Just getting down on the floor is a monumental task. ( still working on that part). Any ideas for us old gals?

When you say tilt your pelvis up I think you mean Posterior pelvic tilt yes?

Hi there, Alicia's knowledge is a combination of studying exercise science, training with many top riders and many years of riding. There are many techniques out there, some better than others, what is important it to find a system that is simple to understand and you can make relevant to your level. Hope this helps x

Everyone is different so its important to listen to your body but these are exercises you can do everyday and for even just 5-10 minutes to help improve x

Thanks for this video! Ive been a kickboxer for years, and my body is just naturally tense. Ill definitely be incorporating these exercises for my riding! Excited to start these!

YES!!! sit on a gym ball! That helps a lot!

Yes, But over time you will gain control. Try to activate them and relax them on your command

How do I do this.? I have a T lift. Metal in my back from t 10 to L 3.

this is me, but I have a All purpose saddle, do I need a dressage saddle for this to work??

This was a great video and I have found your explanations so helpful! I have been trying this exercise every day but have one question. I notice that when o tilt my pelvis more up rather than back, my buttocks clench. Is that normal?

I'm going to try these! But I have trouble relaxing my legs, do you have tips for that? As soon as I put my pelvis up my upper legs start to tense up as well as my knees.
Hi Laura, the answer is patience. Only go as far with your pelvis to which the tension in your legs doesn't happen. Then slowly but surly make this more and more and more.... Take your time

Such a great video, thank you! I'm having difficulty getting my horse to move with me when I'm leading, and as much as I cluck and tug on the lead rope, he's still hesitant. What can I do to make him move forward if I don't have access to one of those long whips?

I have a older horse who has a nasty habit of drastically slowing down when I get him into a nice frame where he isn’t hollowing out and whenever I push him forward to get my tempo and rhythm going again he sticks his head straight up and becomes very angry with me when I try to get his head where it needs to be while also keeping up rhythm. I notice when I wear a small pair of Spurs he’s much more responsive and listens better as I believe in his past home he was ridden with spurs. However the owner of my barn does not believe in spurs so I use a dressage whip which only seems to anger him. And I’ve done exercises to try and get him responsive to my leg but nothing seems to work... which also makes it super hard to keep him from calling on on the inside shoulder each direction. Any tips?
