      Congrats! 🎉 Aren’t those pickups loud?! I’ve lowered mine quite a bit to make them a little more flexible for me, but I’m considering swapping em out for something less hot and then putting these in a Squier. Cause they are really good, but they are really loud 😅

    Got mine last week, and had the same initial concerns about the pick guard scratching. I reached out to my sales guy, he reached out to the Fender reps and confirmed it's part of the road worn aesthetic. The neck on mine was a bit sticky as well but that smoothed right out after about an hour of playing. The out of phase position 2 is something I need to work with longer to appreciate, but otherwise this guitar feels and plays amazing. It loves to be loud.

      Congratulations! Mine was fine out of the bag, but someone else was telling me theirs had a sticky neck issue. I’m guessing it’s just one of the quirks that comes with nitro finish necks.
      For the out of phase position try it with some modulation effects! It’s a really good effect to use with effects.

      @@jackgreenwood1817Did you switch it around? It's a quick trip to the tech (for me), but perhaps a quick solder job for you. I have heard this model with standard in-phase middle position and it is great (I think the pickups/tone on this model are phenomenal already). I can also imagine keeping this guitar as-is, and enjoying the nutty middle position and lean into using it -- like is done in this video. I thought the zitar-sounding parts were done quite well here.

      I much prefer the 2 pickups in-phase as it's more useable for me. I've had numerous Mustangs and never found myself using the out of phase sounds, so I knew this would be more to my tastes.

They’re calling it J’s “Custom C Shape Neck” so it could very well be the same neck shape as the Jazzmasters! It’s super comfortable.

It really feels like a much more expensive guitar. The QC seems to be on another level for the Mascis branded Fenders and Squiers, I think J was adamant with Fender that anything attached to his name had to be of high quality. Fender, 1400 and you still cant throw in a case? Also, that is a cheap gig bag compared to your competitors. At what price point do you get a case with Fender? Also, I get it, its hard to reinvent the tele wheel. Toploaders are en vogue, but no option for a string through? Some like to hybrid string ie some strings through some top loaded. Strange choice and I for one would avoid for that reason. Is J's 58 tele top loaded only? I never knew such a thing existed?

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад

      Yeah, as I understand it, from mid ‘58 to early ‘59 they had top load only. Then when they reintroduced the string thru design, they just drilled holes in the bottom of existing top load bridges. That’s why some 58 reissue having the option to string thru or top load was a point of contention for some.
      It is strange they didn’t include an actual case. My TVL Jazzmasters came with a case and I bought those before they hiked the price to $1,500. In the next video I even mention that Epiphone includes their semi hard shell case starting at the $700 range and that the gigbags PRS includes with their SE guitars are better than this one. Definitely a strange choice. I’d imagine the cost of the minor relicing would be better spent on including a hardshell case.

    • @charlesbolton8471
      @charlesbolton8471 3 года назад

      @@sunnyhaair
      Fender is a bit strange as far as case vs gig bag is concerned. With signature models I think it must have something to do with what the specific artist wants. It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with price. The Mike Dirnt Precision Bass comes with a hard case and is the exact same price as this, and there are others that are more expensive that have the same “deluxe” gig bag.
      In the past Fender included hard cases with all American made guitars, but the American Performer series comes with this same gig bag, and the $2000 Acoustasonics come with gig bags which at least are more deluxe than these.

I still wouldn’t buy one, but I can at least understand why there is a market for a replica of a famous guitar. A new heavy relic just because is something I don’t really understand. The absolute best thing about relics/road worns are the feel, but it doesn’t have to be a heavy relic to get that. What sold me on them was that the good ones really do feel like a vintage guitar for a substantially lower price plus the added benefits of modern features.

    Guitar looks sooo nice! Congrats ! I really, really love Tele's but ever since I got a Chinese made Modern Player HSS Tele I'm scared of them... Subbed to hear and see more of this guitar. I might even buy it! Could you play it with an OCD, Big Muff and a Rat? I really want to hear how these custom pickups react, as J. Mascis is no stranger to using fuzz and overdrive ;) I also use a Helix (HX Stomp).

      Thank you! I’ve got a few distortion pedals (Apex Preamp, Pathos, 5150, BE-OD Deluxe), but no OCD, Big Muff or Rat but I could use the Helix equivalents. Since you’re also in the Helix ecosystem though if theres any models you wanna hear it thru let me know!

    Not being a string through body seems like an odd choice.

    • @sunnyhaair

      The more I think about it, the less it makes sense. Surely foregoing the relic’d neck and making hybrid stringing possible would’ve made the guitar sell at least a little better.

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад

      I haven’t used a real 58 (it’s outside of my tax bracket lol), but given the 9.5” radius I doubt this is an accurate ‘58 profile. It’s a thick modern C, but nowhere near the thickest necks I’ve got.

    dont like how they did this road worn thing but didn't do the body at all. And there whole thing is to make it look new but feel worn in but anyone with half a brain knows its just way cheaper. I'm not a fan of any relic'ing on my guitars tbh but I'd still pick one of the lower end road worn fenders over the non because of the nitro body.

    • @sunnyhaair
      @sunnyhaair  3 года назад +1

      Yeah I’m not really into relic’d guitars either, but somehow I’ve got this one and a Road Worn 60s Jazz Bass. I love the finish on this so I’m glad they didn’t relic the body, though it’s strange they wouldn’t have just left the entire guitar non-relic’d. I imagine the process to relic the neck took at least enough extra machining/manpower to drive up the cost.
      Had the body been relic’d on this Telecaster I wouldn’t have bought it.
