Rule #1 to style: never EVER wear, Ohio State University apparel of any kind, you're better off walking around in the nude just hide your buckeyes if you choose to do so.
I cannot agree more that luxury fabrics are an underrated and understated key to looking more mature and put together. They completely change the look of an outfit. You can have great style, but 95% of cheap pieces just make you look younger or like you’re trying too hard to look young. In my 30s now and there is a night and day difference between my friends who dress well and those who try but don’t invest in the right fabrics. The investment is worth it. Trust me.
Maybe other people don't care as much as you do. Not everyone cares if the coat, shirt, shoes are expensive/good quality. My relative is a top guy at a local tech company and he only buys secondhand clothes, cheap black Levis from Amazon every 6 months after his get holes, still wears his old military peacoat, etc. The only nice items he owns are a pair of dress shoes and a few suits he got from JC Penney in basic colors like blue, gray, black.
I agree, texture makes an outfit much more sophisticated and rich. From what brand is the leather jacket you are wearing in the beggining of the video. I was searching for ages trying to find such a jacket.
I appreciate the Barbour gear - vest and waxed jacket - and I enjoy both in the autumn. I think another simple elegance upgrade is a scarf - such as those from Drake's.
I love these outfits but holy crap if I wore a sweatshirt, T shirt and leather jacket that means it’s 20-30’ degrees out otherwise I’m sweating like Jim Cary climbing out of a rhino’s arse in Ace Ventura… and I’d probably feel the same way….

i checked out lilysilk for men. $85 to $95 for a SINGLE t-shirt? One would have to love it and wear it to death because it would be the ONLY t-shirt in my wardrobe.
This video came right in time. I just recently started upgrading my fall casual wardrobe with the same mindset. Got some Japanese denim, a flannel from proper cloth and some new boots. Working out well so far.
I have enjoyed upgrading basics, just as you say, silk T-shirts, linen, or best of all, sea island cotton. Some lightweight sweaters of cashmere and silk, and one in linen. I was just getting tired of my casual stuff not being up to snuff with the tailoring I was pairing them with, so have added a few pieces every season. I've been eyeing a couple of cashmere T-shirts, how do you like them?
Thanks! It's the Ashby, though I did just get a Beaufort as well. The Ashby has a nice tailored silhouette and a modern look, but it's a little too short to cover up a sport coat.
@@hespokestyle: Yes the Ashby is hands down the best looking of the jackets. No need to wear it with a sports coat, it looks good on its own! Great choice in jackets!
Hey Brian. Another great video. An additional point worth making - some people may not like wearing lambs wool because they find it scratchy / itchy. The fibres of cashmere (and merino) are much finer and shouldn’t have this issue. Also the insulation from cashmere is incomparable to a cotton sweatshirt.
Not seeing the oatmeal colored sweater on Lilysilk's page - does this just look brown and it's one of the three colors they presently have, or is the color you have out of stock?
I love my 2 Overland leather jackets, the Moto Jacket and a GORGEOUS Navy quilted sherling quilted leather car coat, very obtainable to me yet just so damn good looking I can always wlsee someone staring at them and I'm fine with it 😎
I don't like too much jeans, (dark blue, black, white and dark gray are ok) I don't like hoodies, and light gray color sweaters and t-shirts. The last outfit is the best.
To upgrade your casual style, I’m a bit in between with what you just exposed us. I wanna say that, obviously, buying luxury standard clothes help a lot to look better (fit better, look quality, feel luxury). But ! Not only that. If we wonder just a second... How women answer to the same question ? I’m European. I don’t think it changes a lot. But here in my country, I use to see women wearing Zara or H&M with luxury Channel bag ou Rolex watches. Do they look better ? I don’t really think. But, they learn you something : you can wear a simple Zara women black classy suit paire with Cartier Watch and Hermès bag, dress with Van cleef jewels and Gucci loafers... and look absolutely gorgeous. Women got it. I wanna say : Mix and match (luxury accessories and shoes with standard clothes makes a lot). To my mind ***
Great to have you back Brian and great looks! One thing people oft don't seem to realize about more expensive fabrics is that they're often much more comfortable to wear. You can get by with less expensive polyester clothes just fine, but I found natural fabrics to be much more comfortable on the skin. I'm going to assume this helps me give off a more approachable vibe/aura. - Han
Awesome. Thank you. Headed to NYC for a week next week, part leisure part work. You gave me some ideas to shop for, but more importantly made me realize I already have a lot of similar pieces to be able to pull this off. However, how do you feel about vneck sweaters. I have a brown cashmere vneck similar to yours in this vid… I just don’t like vnecks unless it’s a collared shirt underneath
You're very welcome. I'm the same as you when it comes to v-neck sweaters. I typically wear them with a collared shirt as an in-between business casual look when a sport coat might be a little too dressed up for the situation.
well put together but still incredibly boring for some reason. I think its the jeans. Better wash/color and a clean hem would make this look a lot better.
Good morning @Hespokestyle What do you recommend to do when your go to company succumbs to the trends, particularly the loose fitting, heavy 90s feel denim?
Your style has become much more casual than it used to be. I think you do dressy looks much better. And just a humble opinion - I think that perhaps you're past the age of lighter wash jeans (for many looks in general. I must agree that some still look cool!)
Some of the fits that you showed , in my opinion, would impoved a little by using chinos (dark blue for example) instead of jeans. Overall great video and that leather jacket looks amazing
Need to dial in the request a bit. Budget is different from person to person. And what would one do with said budget? Entirely new wardrobe? Suits? Casual clothing?
@@hespokestyle Casual clothing is perfect start. Ready to wear brand item like shirt, pants, and jacket each under or around 100$ or pair of decent shoes maybe for 200$? Would be very helpful for guy like me who like to start dress better without breaking my wallet as college student.
Why black socks with white shoes? I would put white or in very light color matching with jeans. You quite often match white shoes with black socks, that's unusual
@@hespokestyle It is not about your fit in the video, but fit in general for the viewers. Just because it is "country casual" doesn't mean fit is not as important. Likewise, something is not "country casual" just because it is what you always wear when on a hike and what not. For the viewers, think more British country style such as oilskin/wax cotton as in the video than say Gore-tex. Closer to home, think country casual as more early 1900's Americana or classic LL Bean vibe with wools and natural fabrics.
