Great background information on a career as a prison guard. I'm sure a lot of questions were answered. I have a government career and we also have a lot of unique things different from most jobs. Great video!
I work state corrections in newyork how do u like the feds I was interested in making a change. right now we are mandated to work 24 hours if requested
@jayreed8509 The Federal Government jobs are great and stable careers although sometimes very stressful. Federal government jobs all have the same retirement & investment plans. Tsp Thrift savings plan as well as IRA's & ROTH IRA's. The Cia, Fbi, secret service, dea...all of them have it which I love 👍🏼
Just started with Wyoming State Penitentiary, we do 12 hour shifts, 0545-1800 and 1745-0600. The seniority typically wants the night shift actually, so rookies start on days. 4 on, 4 off, it's pretty nice.

@SterlynJones mannnn they damn sure looking! they just put out another email about recruiting more officers. make sure if you apply you tell them Ryan Smoot recruited you to apply so i can get that recruitment bonus check. & they got all the OT you could want if you tryna run it up. i work four 16s a week. im at like $165k for the year, done tripled my salary. it’s christmas every check over here Big Dawg! 💰🫡💪🏽💯
I applied for maintenance at the prison near me thought everything went good but wasn’t hired so now I’m trying for co there hopefully I get in I would really like to get into this career
yezzir, dont give up NO SIR! the 1st time i applied for the feds at USP Hazelton when i was working the county jail, i didnt get hired. had to wait a year to reapply but 11 years later working for the feds im happy i didnt give up.
Yeah I didn’t get hired for maintenance but going for corrections soon they start taking applicants beginning of next month I just tired of bouncing around jobs I got 3 kids and siblings I take care of need something solid !!
Are you a deputy sheriff for your county? Is that the only way how someone is able to work in jails & prisons? This carrer seems confusing. Thanks for answering this when you do.
no im a c/o at a federal prison. you can either work as a c/o at a county jail, state prison, or federal prison. some county jails the officers are dual officers, they inside the jail & work the road as sheriffs
I did everything in one day like 7 hour day . I took a urine sample and a hearing test and physical. Turned in the background portion online the next day still waiting . The next step is background interview? Then start date?

What’s the schedule like for the academy? I’m based in Utah and it’s 15 weeks. No specifics were given on it! Just got done with the drug test! Now awaiting a psych test & interview.
Hey brotha what about transportation department? I’m about to get hired as a c.o. In the feds in California and I have a class A license with passenger endorsement. Do you have to bid for a driver job to transport inmates?

The assistant warden said something like ‘I’ll sign off on it if you all wanna go forward.’ Then I was asked about when I come in for the physical after the background check clears. So I think it’s a go, unless they were lying to me to get me out of the office. Lol. 😅

@mrkayflockDOA700 if you background checks out, then they probably will be calling you in soon yo do the physical & urinalysis & maybe a panel interview. if that goes good, you should be in there. will be calling with a start date

its different for every agency usually 8-4 monday through friday

nah, you just gotta take an additional shooting test at the gun range to get BPT certified. then you can transport the inmates.
