Fez hats were once a symbol of the Ottoman Empire. But after they were banned in Egypt in the 1950s, fez shops largely disappeared. We visited one of the last shops in Cairo, where Nasser Abd El-Baset has been making fezzes for over 40 years.

I visited this shop a few days ago and got a Fez. It took about 2 hours to find it in the narrow alleys of Old Cairo. I had to ask the locals for help. The owner's son was working at the shop when I visited. A very enjoyable experience going on a quest to find this shop!

@@kadirfiliz2926 i suggest go to Islamic Cairo area (Khan el khalili) and show the video to the locals. They will guide you. It is impossible to find as shop is hidden behind an alley that is covered in carpets etc.

On the left side of one of the soukh street. Used to walk by as I made my way down El Khalili. Wonderful memories of my years living there. Thank you for sharing.

The Fasi fez, named after the ancient Moroccan city of Fez, was admired by the Ottomans and those who adopted it and spread it throughout the rest of their colonies... but the Moroccan origin remains, as it is considered, along with the Moroccan djellaba, salham, and balgha, a traditional dress for the state of Morocco..

Wrong, it is named after the city of Fez because the red pigment used to dye it comes from Morocco, which is called Fez in Turkish.
The hat himself is of Byzantine origin, and the traditional Morroccan headwear for men is the Turban

We are making various platforms, where we all will spread awareness about fez hat and encourage people to wear this thing again and will remind them their glorious past, InshaAllah we are trying to revive this trend. Right now we only have reddit community. Plz comment under this comment so we can form a community across the globe
